A water-filled impedance tube capable of improved measurement accuracy and precision is reported. The measurement instrument employs a variation of the standardized two-sensor transfer function technique. Performance improvements were achieved through minimization of elastic waveguide effects and through the use of sound-hard wall-mounted acoustic pressure sensors. Acoustic propagation inside the water-filled impedance tube was found to be well described by a plane wave model, which is a necessary condition for the technique. Measurements of the impedance of a pressure-release terminated transmission line, and the reflection coefficient from a water/air interface, were used to verify the system. 相似文献

In intermediate energy nucleus-nucleus collisions, neutron production at forward angles is observed to occur with a Gaussian shape that is centered near the beam energy and extends to energies well above that of the beam. This paper presents an abrasion-ablation model for making quantitative predictions of the neutron spectrum. To describe neutrons produced from the abrasion step of the reaction where the projectile and target overlap, we use the Glauber model and include effects of final-state interactions. We then use the prefragment mass distribution from abrasion with a statistical evaporation model to estimate the neutron spectrum resulting from ablation. Measurements of neutron production from Ne and Nb beams are compared with calculations, and good agreement is found. 相似文献

The preparation of hard material samples with the necessary size and shape is critical to successful material analysis. X‐ray nanotomography requires that samples are sufficiently thin for X‐rays to pass through the sample during rotation for tomography. One method for producing samples that fit the criteria for X‐ray nanotomography is focused ion beam/scanning electron microscopy (FIB/SEM) which uses a focused beam of ions to selectively mill around a region of interest and then utilizes a micromanipulator to remove the milled‐out sample from the bulk material and mount it on a sample holder. In this article the process for preparing X‐ray nanotomography samples in multiple shapes and sizes is discussed. Additionally, solid‐oxide fuel cell anode samples prepared through the FIB/SEM technique underwent volume‐independence studies for multiple properties such as volume fraction, average particle size, tortuosity and contiguity to observe the characteristics of FIB/SEM samples in X‐ray nanotomography. 相似文献

Excited states in 197Pb and 198Pb, produced in the 186W (18O,xn) reaction, were studied using the EUROGAM phase 2 γ ray spectrometer array. Two new superdeformed bands have been observed in 197Pb, and the existence of a superdeformed band in 198Pb has been confirmed. The increased statistics provided by the latest generation of arrays has resulted in the reordering of some of the previous known cascades of magnetic dipole transitions, with the first observation of the extremely weak E2 crossover transitions. 相似文献

We analyze the influence of residual two-photon excitation (2PE) in two-color (two-photon) optical beam induced current (2CE-OBIC) generation in wide band gap semiconductor samples. 2CE-OBIC generation is accomplished with two confocal excitation beams of separation angle θ and wavelengths λ1 and λ2 where , λe = hc/Eb, h is the Planck’s constant, c is speed of light in vacuum, and Eb is the energy band gap. Because the conduction band of the sample is a continuum, at least one excitation beam would also contribute an undesirable 2PE-OBIC signal that degrades the signal-to-noise ratio of the measured 2CE-OBIC response and broadens the effective OBIC distribution in the sample particularly when θ ≠ 0 or π. We show that the deleterious effects of crosstalk are reduced by a careful selection of λ1 and λ2 and the relative excitation beam intensities. λ1 and λ2 should be chosen to minimize the ratio of the two-photon absorption coefficients (β1, β2) to the 2CE absorption coefficient β12 or at least satisfy the constraint: β1 + β2 β12. Keeping the two excitation intensities equal is beneficial only when β1 = β2. Otherwise, it is advantageous to bias the intensity ratio towards the wavelength with a lower 2PE absorption coefficient. 相似文献

The negative nitrogen-vacancy centre in diamond is used to illustrate electromagnetically induced transparency features within a coherent hole. A hole is created in an inhomogeneously broadened electron spin transition and its spectrum modified by driving hyperfine transitions. The modified spectrum is discussed in terms of dressed states of the system, and the spectrum is shown to be in good correspondence with numerical solutions of the density matrix for the doubly driven system. 相似文献

The purpose of this Letter is to conjecture a characterization of the anisotropic equipartition state. The anisotropic equipartition state is defined through a phase space density which is uniform on the invariant surface of ξ, where ξ is the ratio between the oscillation energies in the x- and y-directions. It is a version of the ergodic hypothesis where the invariant surface of ξ plays the role of the conserved energy. We show that the anisotropic equipartition state is characterized by the following properties: the development of an elliptical shape with increasing size along the x-direction, the presence of a coupling between transversal emittances, halo formation along a preferential direction, stationarity of the temperature and a growth of the entropy in the cascade form. 相似文献

We report the identification of six new superdeformed (SD) bands in 197,198Pb observed with the EUROBALL IV spectrometer. The results are interpreted in the framework of cranked Hartree-Fock calculations
with approximate projection on the particle number by means of the Lipkin-Nogami method. A mixing between quasi-particle excitations
and an octupole vibration is suggested in the two SD isotopes. We have estimated the ordering of the neutron valence orbitals
and confirm indirectly a N = 118 SD gap.

The rotational spectra of two conformations of 3-chloro-propanol were observed for the four possible and isotopic species. For both conformations the oxygen atom is gauche with respect to the C2C3 bond and the hydroxyl hydrogen is trans with respect to the C2C1 bond. In one conformation (T) the chlorine is trans with respect to C1C2 and it is gauche in the other form (G). The ground state of the G form is about 0.7 kcal/mole more stable than that of the T form. A discussion is given about the failure to observe the H bond species. The most likely reason is the too close approach of Cl and O in this hypothetical configuration. The quadrupole coupling constants were obtained for the G form. The rotational spectra of five excited states of the T form and of one excited state of the G species were measured.
