The newly observed difference between π+ and π? elastic differential cross sections is shown to be a consequence of Coulomb distortion. Good agreement with the data is obtained at the first minimum by assuming the additivity of the Coulomb and nuclear phases in impact parameter space and an approximate formula is derived to describe the behaviour there. From this it can be seen that the sign of the π+, π? difference allows one to eliminate one of the ambiguities in a phase shift analysis. 相似文献

The alignment dependence of the total cross section of deuterium is a purely multiple scattering phenomenon. An estimate of this for pion scattering using Glauber theory shows that the most important contribution is associated with the deuteron D-state (typically 1%) with corrections coming from the double spin flip. Measurements of the proton total cross section with an aligned deuteron beam should also yield other interesting information on the wave function of the deuteron D-state. 相似文献

This paper studies both the conductance and charge transport on 2D orbifolds in a strong magnetic field. We consider a family of Landau Hamiltonians on a complex, compact 2D orbifold Y that are parametrised by the Jacobian torus J(Y) of Y. We calculate the degree of the associated stable holomorphic spectral orbibundles when the magnetic field B is large and obtain fractional quantum numbers as the conductance and a refined analysis also gives the charge transport. A key tool studied here is a nontrivial generalisation of the Nahm transform to 2D orbifolds.

The ratio of forward K+ production on copper, silver and gold targets to that on carbon has been measured at proton beam energies between 1.5 and 2.3 GeV as a function of the kaon momentum pK using the ANKE spectrometer at COSY-Jülich. The strong suppression in the ratios observed for pK<200–250 MeV/c may be ascribed to a combination of Coulomb and nuclear repulsion in the K+A system. This opens a new way to investigate the interaction of K+-mesons in the nuclear medium. Our data are consistent with a K+A nuclear potential of VK0≈20 MeV at low kaon momenta and normal nuclear density. Given the sensitivity of the data to the kaon potential, the current experimental precision might allow one to determine VK0 to better than 3 MeV. 相似文献

The total cross section of the pd→pdη reaction has been measured at two energies near threshold by detecting the final proton and deuteron in a magnetic spectrometer.
The values are somewhat larger than expected on the basis of two simple theoretical estimates.
