Direct, organocatalytic α-sulfenylation of aldehydes and ketones

A method for direct sulfenylation of aldehydes and ketones, catalyzed by a novel pyrrolidine trifluoromethanesulfonamide organocatalyst, has been developed. This process serves as an efficient and mild approach to the preparation of α-phenylthio-ketones and -aldehydes.

PERFORMANCE CHARACTERIZATION AND MODELING OF A COMPOSITE HIP PROSTHESIS

Hip prostheses made from thick laminated composite material were cyclically tested under biaxial compressive loading. Fatigue damage was studied using X-ray radiography, a surface replication, and sectioning of the specimens. It has been shown that damage in the neck region occurred predominantly in form of matrix cracking along fiber directions in the major load-carrying plies. These matrix cracks initiated from the surface of the medial-posterior corner, as a result of local high compressive stress, extended to the lateral side, and distributed toward the anterior side, with an increase of applied cycles. We also briefly outlined a life-prediction model for predicting the remaining life and strength of the composite prosthesis based on a "critical element" concept, as well as how laboratory test results can be used in the model.     

A laser micro-chopper approach for molecular beam probe

A laser micro-chopper has been designed to respond fast to a molecular beam. A method of spectral structure measurement is established to analyse the responding signals. In experiments, the minimum detectable signals correspond to an air molecular-beam intensity of 5 × 10⁸/s

如果一个图G存在一个k-列表安排使得G具有一个唯一列表染色,则称 G是唯一列表可染色图,简称UkLC图．我们称图G具有M(k)性质当且仅当G不 是UkLC图．本文在借鉴θr,s,t-图概念的基础上引入θr,s,t-图的定义,并证明:除了 r=s=t=2以外,θr,s,t-图都是U2LC图．利用如上结果我们给出M．Mahdian and E．S．Mahmoodian对U2LC图所作特征化的一个简单证明．     

Least‐squares finite element method on adaptive grid for PDEs with shocks

We apply the least‐squares finite element method with adaptive grid to nonlinear time‐dependent PDEs with shocks. The least‐squares finite element method is also used in applying the deformation method to generate the adaptive moving grids. The effectiveness of this method is demonstrated by solving a Burgers' equation with shocks. Computational results on uniform grids and adaptive grids are compared for the purpose of evaluation. The results show that the adaptive grids can capture the shock more sharply with significantly less computational time. Wormhole solution in Bergmann-Wagoner scalar-tensor gravitational theory

We give a Euclidean wormhole solution in the vacuum Bergmann-Wagoner scalar-tensor gravitational theory. We show that this wormhole, unlike others, has complex charge and is a baby universe (half a wormhole).
