Nanocrystal formation and faceting instability in Al(110) homoepitaxy: true upward adatom diffusion at step edges and island corners

Using atomic force microscopy and spot-profile analyzing low energy electron diffraction, we have observed the existence of a striking faceting instability in Al(110) homoepitaxy, characterized by the formation of nanocrystals with well-defined facets. These hut-shaped nanocrystals are over tenfold higher than the total film coverage, and coexist in a bimodal growth mode with much shallower and more populous surface mounds. We further use density functional theory calculations to elucidate the microscopic origin of the faceting instability, induced by surprisingly low activation barriers for adatom ascent at step edges and island corners.     

Stability Improvement of Prussian Blue by a Protective Cellulose Acetate Membrane for Hydrogen Peroxide Sensing in Neutral Media

The cellulose acetate covered Prussian blue modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE/PB/CA) was fabricated as a novel hydrogen peroxide sensor. It was shown by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM) that Prussian blue was covered and protected by cellulose acetate perfectly. The modified electrode showed a good electrocatalytic activity for H₂O₂ reduction in neutral aqueous solution. H₂O₂ was detected amperometrically in 0.05 mol/L phosphate buffer solutions (pH 7.0, containing 0.1 mol/L KCl as supporting electrolyte) at an applied potential of ?0.2 V (vs. SCE). The response current was proportional to the concentration of H₂O₂ in the range of 1.0×10^?5 mol/L to 2.5×10^?4 mol/L with the detection limit of 2.2×10^?6 mol/L at a signal to noise ratio 3.     

主喷管叶片中热壁面对分流管道流场特性的影响

 连续波化学激光器运转时,位于主喷管叶片内的副气流的分流管道壁面将被主喷管叶片加热而形成热壁面。通过3维的数值模拟,分析了单端、双端不同供气方式下,热壁面对分流管道流场特性的影响。热壁面将使总管气流总温沿着气流的流动方向逐渐升高,由此引起的支管入口总温的升高会降低支管的流量。无论是单端供气,还是双端供气,热壁面引起的管道流量波动幅度都要远大于绝热壁面的情况,最大波动幅度达2.16%。对进入总管的气流预热,适当增加供气总温,或将冷却管道与供气管道分开设计,气流总温变化引起的流量波动将会得到一定地抑制。     

主振荡功率放大装置中的放大自发辐射效应和能量提取效率

 建立了放大自发辐射(ASE)和相干激光能流耦合的模型,使用迭代算法,计算了长方体形状放大级中的ASE能流和相干激光能流的分布以及放大级出口0.5 m处的ASE分布,并讨论了入射光强、饱和光强对输出功率及能量提取效率的影响。对于增益区呈长方体、增益系数沿流场方向呈抛物线分布的放大级的计算结果表明：输入光的存在不仅会降低放大级中ASE光强的大小,而且将改变ASE的分布,使放大级中ASE能流的极大值向入口处移动;在饱和光强一定的情况下,输出功率和能量提取效率将随着入射功率的增大而增大;在入射光强一定的情况下,输出功率将随着饱和光强的增大而增大,而能量提取效率将随着饱和光强的增大而减小。     

Octaarginine-modified chitosan as a nonviral gene delivery vector: properties and in vitro transfection efficiency

Protein transduction domains (PTD) have been identified to have the capacity to facilitate molecular cargo to translocate through cell membrane. This study aims to utilize the cell membrane penetrating ability of octaarginine oligopeptide, a simplified prototype of the PTD, to enhance the transfection efficiency of chitosan. Octaarginine-modified chitosan (R₈-CS) was synthesized as a gene transfer carrier by carbodiimide chemistry. The structure and composition of R₈-CSs were characterized using FTIR and ¹H NMR. Agarose gel electrophoresis assay showed that R₈-CS could efficiently condense the DNA. The particle size of R₈-CS/DNA complexes were determined to be around 100–200 nm. The nanoparticle complexes exhibited a spherical and compact morphology. R₈-CS demonstrated higher transfection activity and lower cytotoxicity as compared to the unmodified chitosan and also showed good serum resistance.

Generation of multi-hollow crystalline Mo fibres

Flower-like micrometer-sized crystalline Mo fibres have been prepared by directly heating Mo powder on Mo foil, under Ar atmosphere. ED, EDX, SEM and HRTEM studies reveal that each fibre consists of a single Mo crystal containing multi-hollow cores. A one-dimensional growth mechanism, on the basis of the one-dimensional thermal flow during fibre formation, is discussed.
