Mechanisms and simulations of the induction period and the initial polymerization stages in the nitroxide‐mediated autopolymerization of styrene are discussed. At 120–125 °C and moderate 2,2,4,4‐tetramethyl‐1‐piperidinyloxy (TEMPO) concentrations (0.02–0.08 M), the main source of radicals is the hydrogen abstraction of the Mayo dimer by TEMPO [with the kinetic constant of hydrogen abstraction (kh)]. At higher TEMPO concentrations ([N?] > 0.1 M), this reaction is still dominant, but radical generation by the direct attack against styrene by TEMPO, with kinetic constant of addition kad, also becomes relevant. From previous experimental data and simulations, initial estimates of kh ≈ 1 and kad ≈ 6 × 10?7 L mol?1 s?1 are obtained at 125 °C. From the induction period to the polymerization regime, there is an abrupt change in the dominant mechanism generating radicals because of the sudden decrease in the nitroxide radicals. Under induction‐period conditions, the simulations confirm the validity of the quasi‐steady‐state assumption (QSSA) for the Mayo dimer in this regime; however, after the induction period, the QSSA for the dimer is not valid, and this brings into question the scientific basis of the well‐known expression kth[M]3 (where [M] is the monomer concentration and kth is the kinetic constant of autoinitiation) for the autoinitiation rate in styrene polymerization. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A study has been made of the cationic electropolymerization of trans-anethole initiated by a direct electron transfer mechanism at a Pt anode in 1,2-dichloroethane solution with tetrabutylammonium perchlorate as supporting electrolyte. The electrochemical behaviour of the system has been preliminarily investigated by voltammetry at rotating and stationary Pt electrode and also by chronoamperometry. The results are consistent with an ECE oxidation process of anethole with formation first of a radical cation and finally of a dication. Polymerization experiments by electrolysis at the oxidation potential of the monomer have been also carried out both under continuous electrolysis and with short initial pulses of current. The results have been analysed and some kinetic parameters of the system have been evaluated.  相似文献

The Rm values and retention times of a series of nitroimidazo[2,1-b]thiazoles were obtained by means of thin-layer and high-performance liquid chromatography, respectively. The multivariate optimization method known as simplex is applied to the Kharasch–Sosnovsky allylic oxidation of double bonds. By applying this method, the amounts of three variables (copper source, oxidant, and additive) are optimized at the same time. Under the conditions thus obtained the reaction takes place in a considerable shorter time, being the alkene the limiting reagent. These conditions are applied to some monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes leading regioselectively to the corresponding benzoate esters, opening a route to the employment of this reaction in the synthesis of more complex molecules.  相似文献

Random poly(hexamethylene terephthalate‐co‐galactarate)s and poly(dodecamethylene terephthalate‐co‐galactarate)s copolyesters covering the whole range of compositions were obtained with weight‐average molecular weights of ~30,000–50,000 g mol?1 by melt polycondensation. They were thermally stable above 300 °C, and displayed Tg in the +20 to ?20 °C range with values steadily decreasing with the content in galactarate units. All the copolyesters were semicrystalline with Tm between 50 and 150 °C and those made from dodecanediol were able to crystallize from the melt at a crystallization rate depending on composition. Copolyesters containing up to 50% of galactaric units retained the crystal structure of their respective polyterephthalate homopolyesters, whereas they adopted the structure of the respective polygalactarates when the content in Galx units reached 70%. Stress‐strain essays revealed decay in the mechanical parameters as the aromatic units were replaced by Galx. Incubation in aqueous buffer revealed that hydrolysis of the polyesters were largely enhanced by copolymerization and evidenced the capacity of the Galx unit for making aromatic polyesters susceptible to biodegradation. A detailed NMR analysis complemented by SEM observations indicated that hydrolysis took place by preferred splitting of galactarate ester bonds with releasing of alkanediol and Galx‐diacid. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We measure polarization-resolved instantaneous patterns in a large-aspect ratio quasi-isotropic Nd:YAG laser. High correlation between the instantaneous orthogonal polarization patterns recorded at the earlier stages of the laser pulse has been found due to the strong cross saturation between both polarization modes.  相似文献

We consider the dissipative nonlinear dynamics of a model of interacting atoms driven over a substrate potential. The substrate parameters can be suitably tuned in order to introduce disorder effects starting from two geometrically opposed ideal cases: commensurate and incommensurate interfaces. The role of temperature is also investigated through the inclusion of a stochastic force via a Langevin molecular dynamics approach. Here, we focus on the most interesting tribological case of underdamped sliding dynamics. For different values of the chain stiffness, we evaluate the static friction threshold and consider the depinning transition mechanisms as a function of the applied driving force. As experimentally observed in QCM frictional measurements of adsorbed layers, we find that disorder operates differently depending on the starting geometrical configuration. For commensurate interfaces, randomness lowers considerably the chain depinning threshold. On the contrary, for incommensurate mating contacts, disorder favors static pinning destroying the possible frictionless (superlubric) sliding states. Interestingly, thermal and disorder effects strongly influence also the occurrence of parametric resonances inside the chain, capable of converting the kinetic energy of the center-of-mass motion into internal vibrational excitations. We comment on the nature of the different dynamical states and hysteresis (due to system bi-stability) observed at different increasing and decreasing strengths of the external force.  相似文献

We report the results of an analytical investigation on 416 silver-copper coins stemming from the Ottoman Empire (end of 16th and beginning of 17th centuries), using synchrotron micro X-ray fluorescence analysis (SRXRF). In the past, analyses had already been conducted with energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis (EDXRF), scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (SEM/EDX) and proton induced X-ray emission spectroscopy (PIXE). With this combination of techniques it was possible to confirm the fineness of the coinage as well as to study the provenance of the alloy used for the coins.  相似文献

Formulas for calculating the spectral characteristics of waveguide arrays, which are incorporated into waveguide spectrum analyzers based on planar waveguides, channel waveguides, and fiber optical waveguides, are derived taking into account the contribution of both the waveguide dispersion and the material dispersion to the dispersion factor. These formulas are used to study the dependence of the dispersion factor on the waveguide-system parameters for specific models of waveguide arrays. It is shown that consideration of contributions of the waveguide dispersion and material dispersion can affect profoundly the spectral characteristics of waveguide arrays.  相似文献
