Abstract We analyze the efficiency of the international management of the Bay of Biscay anchovy. While a sharing agreement between France and Spain has been in place since 1992, the fish stock collapsed in 2005 and the fishery closed from 2005 to spring 2010. We consider differences in production technologies between both countries and calibrate our model using data from 1987 to 2009. Our results suggest two sources of rent dissipation under the existing sharing agreement: inefficient quota allocation and production inefficiencies due to inflexible national regulations. We discuss several alternatives to improve management.  相似文献

We analyze the convergence to equilibrium of solutions to the nonlinear Berger plate evolution equation in the presence of localized interior damping (also referred to as geometrically constrained damping). Utilizing the results in (Geredeli et al. in J. Differ. Equ. 254:1193–1229, 2013), we have that any trajectory converges to the set of stationary points $\mathcal{N}$ . Employing standard assumptions from the theory of nonlinear unstable dynamics on the set $\mathcal{N}$ , we obtain the rate of convergence to an equilibrium. The critical issue in the proof of convergence to equilibria is a unique continuation property (which we prove for the Berger evolution) that provides a gradient structure for the dynamics. We also consider the more involved von Karman evolution, and show that the same results hold assuming a unique continuation property for solutions, which is presently a challenging open problem.  相似文献

A new molecular dyad consisting of a Cy5 chromophore and ferrocene (Fc) and a triad consisting of Cy5, Fc, and β‐cyclodextrin (CD) are synthesized and their photophysical properties investigated at both the ensemble and single‐molecule levels. Hole transfer efficiency from Cy5 to Fc in the dyad is reduced upon addition of CD. This is due to an increase in the Cy5‐Fc separation (r) when the Fc is encapsulated in the macrocyclic host. On the other hand, the triad adopts either a Fc‐CD inclusion complex conformation in which hole transfer quenching of the Cy5 by Fc is minimal or a quasi‐static conformation with short r and rapid charge transfer. Single‐molecule fluorescence measurements reveal that r is lengthened when the triad molecules are deposited on a glass substrate. By combining intramolecular charge transfer and competitive supramolecular interaction, the triad acts as an efficient chemical sensor to detect different bioactive analytes such as amantadine hydrochloride and sodium lithocholate in aqueous solution and synthetic urine.  相似文献

The first phosphane complexes of germanium(iv) fluoride, trans-[GeF(4)(PR(3))(2)] (R = Me or Ph) and cis-[GeF(4)(diphosphane)] (diphosphane = R(2)P(CH(2))(2)PR(2), R = Me, Et, Ph or Cy; o-C(6)H(4)(PR(2))(2), R = Me or Ph) have been prepared from [GeF(4)(MeCN)(2)] and the ligands in dry CH(2)Cl(2) and characterised by microanalysis, IR, Raman, (1)H, (19)F{(1)H} and (31)P{(1)H} NMR spectroscopy. The crystal structures of [GeF(4)(diphosphane)] (diphosphane = Ph(2)P(CH(2))(2)PPh(2) and o-C(6)H(4)(PMe(2))(2)) have been determined and show the expected cis octahedral geometries. In anhydrous CH(2)Cl(2) solution the complexes are slowly converted into the corresponding phosphane oxide adducts by dry O(2). The apparently contradictory literature on the reaction of GeCl(4) with phosphanes is clarified. The complexes trans-[GeCl(4)(AsR(3))(2)] (R = Me or Et) are obtained from GeCl(4) and AsR(3) either without solvent or in CH(2)Cl(2), and the structures of trans-[GeCl(4)(AsEt(3))(2)] and Et(3)AsCl(2) determined. Unexpectedly, the complexes of GeF(4) with arsane ligands are very unstable and have not been isolated in a pure state. The behaviour of the germanium(iv) halides towards phosphane and arsane ligands are compared with the corresponding silicon(iv) and tin(iv) systems.  相似文献

The monolayer formed at an air/water interface by the synthetic non-ionic surfactant, 1,2-di-O-octadecyl-rac-glyceryl-3-(omega-methoxydodecakis (ethylene glycol)) (2C18E12) has been characterized using Langmuir trough measurements, Brewster angle microscopy (BAM), and neutron reflectometry. The BAM and reflectometry studies were performed at four different surface pressures (pi) in the range 15-40 mN/m. The BAM studies (which give information on the in-plane organisation of the surfactant layer) demonstrate that the 2C18E12 molecules are arranged on the water surface to form distinct, approximately circular, 5 microm diameter domains. As the surface pressure is increased these domains retain their size and shape but are made progressively more close-packed, such that the monolayer is made more or less complete at pi=40 mN/m. The neutron reflectometry measurements were made to determine the structure of the interfacial surfactant layer at pi=15, 28, 34 and 40 mN/m, providing information on the thickness of the 2C18E12 alkyl chains', head groups' and associated solvent distributions (measured along the surface normal), along with the separations between these distributions, and the effective interfacial area per molecule. Partial structure factor analyses of the reflectivity data show that the effective interfacial area occupied decreases from 217 A2 per 2C18E12 molecule at pi=15 mN/m down to 102 A2 at pi=40 mN/m. There are concomitant increases in the widths of the surfactant's alkyl chains' and head groups' distributions (modelled as Gaussians), with the former rising from 12 A (at pi=15 mN/m) up to 19 A (at pi=40 mN/m) and the latter rising from 13 A (at pi=15 mN/m) up to 24 A (at pi=40 mN/m). The compression of the monolayer is also shown to give rise to an increased surface roughness, some of which is due to the thermal roughness caused by capillary waves, but with a significant contribution also coming from the intrinsic/structural disorder in the monolayer. At all surface pressures studied, the alkyl chains and head groups of the 2C18E12 are found to exhibit a significant overlap, and this increases with increasing pi. Given the various trends noted on how the structure of the 2C18E12 monolayer changes as a function of pi, we extrapolate to consider the structure of the monolayer at pi>40 mN/m (making comparison with its single chain (CnEm) counterparts) and then relate these findings to the observations recorded on the structure and solute entrapment efficiency of 2C18E12 vesicles.  相似文献

The reaction of the 1,2,3,5-dithiadiazolyls (4-R-C(6)H(4)CN(2)S(2))(2) (R = Me, 2a; Cl, 2b; OMe, 2c; and CF3, 2d) and (3-NC-5-tBu-C(6)H(3)CN(2)S(2))(2) (2e) with [CpCr(CO)(3)](2) (Cp = eta(5)-C(5)H(5)) (1) at ambient temperature respectively yielded the complexes CpCr(CO)(2)(eta(2)-S(2)N(2)CC(6)H(4)R) (R = 4-Me, 3a; 4-Cl, 3b; 4-OMe, 3c; and 4-CF(3), 3d) and CpCr(CO)(2)(eta(2)-S(2)N(2)CC(6)H(3)-3-(CN)-5-(tBu)) (3e) in 35-72% yields. The complexes 3c and 3d were also synthesized via a salt metathesis method from the reaction of NaCpCr(CO)(3) (1B) and the 1,2,3,5-dithiadiazolium chlorides 4-R-C(60H(4)CN(2)S(2)Cl (R = OMe, 8c; CF(3), 8d) with much lower yields of 6 and 20%, respectively. The complexes were characterized spectroscopically and also by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Cyclic voltammetry experiments were conducted on 3a-e, EPR spectra were obtained of one-electron-reduced forms of 3a-e, and variable temperature 1H NMR studies were carried out on complex 3d. Hybrid DFT calculations were performed on the model system [CpCr(CO)(2)S(2)N(2)CH] and comparisons are made with the reported CpCr(CO)(2)(pi-allyl) complexes.  相似文献

A highly active alternative to Pt electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), which is the cathode‐electrode reaction of fuel cells, is sought for higher fuel‐cell performance. Our theoretical modelling reveals that B‐doped Pd (Pd‐B) weakens the absorption of ORR intermediates with nearly optimal binding energy by lowering the barrier associated with O2 dissociation, suggesting Pd‐B should be highly active for ORR. In fact, Pd‐B, facile synthesized by an electroless deposition process, exhibits 2.2 times and 8.8 times higher specific activity and 14 times and 35 times less costly than commercial pure Pd and Pt catalysts, respectively. Another computational result is that the surface core level of Pd is negatively shifted by B doping, as confirmed by XPS, and implies that filling the density of states related to the anti‐bonding of oxygen to Pd surfaces with excess electrons from B doping, weakens the O bonding to Pd and boosts the catalytic activity.  相似文献
