A trapping reagent for formaldehyde, based on the pararosaniline reaction, was evaluated as a method of determination of formaldehyde in the aqueous or vapour phase. Collection of formaldehyde vapour relied upon passive diffusion of formaldehyde into the trapping media and quantitative results were obtained without the need for liquid impingers, bubblers or active sampling pumps. Moreover, a novel, hand-held absorption spectrophotometric measurement device was designed to provide on-site, quantitative measurements. It is proposed that the full measurement system devised would be ideally suited to specific sampling applications such as those found in museum enclosures. 相似文献

Surface passivation of PbS nanocrystals (NC), resulting in strong photoluminescence, can be achieved by the introduction of CdS precursors. The role of CdS in the surface passivation of PbS NCs is uncertain, as the crystalline structure of CdS and PbS are different, which should impede effective epitaxial overgrowth. Absorption spectroscopy is used to show that the CdS precursors strongly interact with the PbS NC surface. Electron microscopy reveals that the introduction of CdS precursors results in an increased particle size, consistent with overcoating. However, we also find the process to be highly non-uniform. Nevertheless, evidence for epitaxial growth is found, suggesting that effective surface passivation may be possible. 相似文献

For hexanoic acid and its seven isomers, relative rates have been determined for acid catalysed esterification with methanol, and compared with those for saponification of the methyl esters. A good correlation between logarithms of relative rates for the two reactions is obtained, and it is suggested that the eight isomers provide a test set of compounds in which steric effects alone act on reactivity at the acyl carbon. A full set of steric parameters ( values) are presented. Rates of solvolyses of the acid chlorides of the isomers have been determined conductometrically in 3:1 wt:wt acetonitrile water. Logarithms of relative rates show a poor correlation with , and, taking into account the solvent dependence of the rates, the pattern excludes both rate‐limiting formation of a tetrahedral intermediate and rate‐limiting dissociation of chloride to form acylium ions. The remaining possibilities, a concerted process (AND) and rapid reversible formation of a hydrate followed by rate‐limiting dissociation of chloride (AN + D) are considered. Proton transfer reactions are the rate-limiting steps in many biological and synthetic chemical processes, often requiring complex cofactors or catalysts to overcome the generally unfavourable thermodynamic process of carbanion intermediate formation. It has been suggested that quantum tunnelling processes enhance the kinetics of some of these reactions, which when coupled to protein motions may be an important consideration for enzyme catalysis. To obtain a better fundamental and quantitative understanding of these proton transfer mechanisms, a computational analysis of the intramolecular proton transfer from a carbon acid in the small molecule, 4-nitropentanoic acid, in aqueous solution is presented. Potential-energy surfaces from gas-phase, implicit and QM/MM (quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical) explicit solvation quantum chemistry models are compared, and the potential of mean force, for the full reaction coordinate, using umbrella-sampling molecular dynamics is analysed. Semi-classical multidimensional tunnelling corrections are also used to estimate the quantum tunnelling contributions and to understand the origin of the primary deuterium kinetic isotope effects (KIEs). A new passive particle collector (inert surrogate surface) that collects particles from all directions has been developed.
It was used to measure particle deposition at 35 test sites as part of a project that examined corrosion of materials in order
that variation in particulate material could be used in development of dose–response functions in a modern multi-pollutant
environment. The project, MULTI-ASSESS, was funded by the EU to examine the effects of air pollution on cultural heritage.
Passive samplers were mounted rain-protected, and both in wind-protected and wind-exposed positions, to match the exposure
of the samples for corrosion studies. The particle mass and its chemical content (nitrate, ammonium, sulfate, calcium, sodium,
chloride, magnesium and potassium) were analysed. The loss of light reflectance on the surrogate surface was also measured.
Very little ammonium and potassium was found, and one or more anions are missing in the ion balance. There were many strong
correlations between the analysed species. The mass of analysed water-soluble ions was fairly constant at 24% of the total
mass. The particle mass deposited to the samplers in the wind-protected position was about 25% of the particles deposited
to an openly exposed sampler. The Cl−/Na+ ratios indicate a reaction between HNO3 and NaCl. The deposited nitrate flux corresponds to the missing chloride. The Ca2+ deposition equals the deposition and the anion deficiency. The deposition most likely originates from SO2 that has reacted with basic calcium-containing particles either before or after they were deposited. The particle depositions
at the urban sites were much higher than in nearby rural sites. The deposited mass correlated surprisingly well with the PM10 concentration, except at sites very close to traffic. 相似文献

We report on the convenient synthesis of a CNC pincer ligand composed of carbazole and two mesoionic carbenes, as well as the corresponding lithium- and magnesium complexes. Mono-deprotonation affords a rare “naked” amide anion. In contrast to the proligand and its mono-deprotonated form, tri-deprotonated s-block complexes show bright luminescence, and their photophysical properties were therefore investigated by absorption- and luminescence spectroscopy. They reveal a quantum yield of 16% in solution at ambient temperature. Detailed quantum-chemical calculations assist in rationalizing the emissive properties based on an Intra-Ligand-Charge-Transfer (ILCT) between the carbazolido- and mesoionic carbene ligands. (Earth-)alkali metals prevent the distortion of the ligand following excitation and, thus, by avoiding non-radiative deactivation support bright luminescence.Lithium- and magnesium complexes of a CNC pincer ligand composed of carbazole and two mesoionic carbenes are bright luminescent, because the metals prevent molecular distortions upon excitation. 相似文献

Although a monoclonal antibody targeting the multifunctional ectoenzyme CD38 is an FDA-approved drug, few small molecule inhibitors exist for this enzyme that catalyzes inter alia the formation and metabolism of the N1-ribosylated, Ca2+-mobilizing, second messenger cyclic adenosine 5′-diphosphoribose (cADPR). N1-Inosine 5′-monophosphate (N1-IMP) is a fragment directly related to cADPR. 8-Substituted-N1-IMP derivatives, prepared by degradation of cyclic parent compounds, inhibit CD38-mediated cADPR hydrolysis more efficiently than related cyclic analogues, making them attractive for inhibitor development. We report a total synthesis of the N1-IMP scaffold from adenine and a small initial compound series that facilitated early delineation of structure-activity parameters, with analogues evaluated for inhibition of CD38-mediated hydrolysis of cADPR. The 5′-phosphate group proved essential for useful activity, but substitution of this group by a sulfonamide bioisostere was not fruitful. 8-NH2-N1-IMP is the most potent inhibitor (IC50 = 7.6 μM) and importantly HPLC studies showed this ligand to be cleaved at high CD38 concentrations, confirming its access to the CD38 catalytic machinery and demonstrating the potential of our fragment approach. 相似文献
