Analysis of pigmented high-molecular-mass grape phenolics using ion-pair, normal-phase high-performance liquid chromatography

A normal-phase LC method has been developed to analyze high-molecular-mass grape phenolic compounds. Samples are prepared by first isolating phenolics using C18-SPE. The analytical method uses a silica column and gradient elution with mobile phases of methylene chloride, methanol, formic acid and heptanesulfonic acid. This separation enables the analysis of these compounds from grape and wine samples in the presence of anthocyanins without extensive purification. Based on the elution order of proanthocyanidins and anthocyanins, phenolics elute in order of increasing molecular mass. Currently, it is not possible to identify all of the components separated in the chromatogram.     

Sodium Trimethyl Silanoate. A Hydroxyl Synthon for Fluoride SNAr Type Displacements from Anthracene-9,10-diones,Benz[g]isoquinoline-5–10-diones and Nitrobenzenes

Treatment of fluoroanthracene-9,10-diones, fluorobenz[g]isoquinoline-5,10-diones and 1- or 4-fluoronitrobenzenes with sodium trimethylsilanoate in THF followed by acidification readily yields the corresponding hydroxyl analogues.     

Fusion around the barrier for 7Li+12C

Fusion cross-sections for the ⁷Li + ¹²C reaction have been measured at energies above the Coulomb barrier by the direct detection of evaporation residues. The heavy evaporation residues with energies below 3 MeV could not be separated out from the α-particles in the spectrum and hence their contribution was estimated using statistical model calculations. The present work indicates that suppression of fusion cross-sections due to the breakup of ⁷Li may not be significant for ⁷Li + ¹²C reaction at energies around the barrier.

Investigation of the limitations of saturated fractional factorial experimental designs,with confounding effects for an HPLC ruggedness test

Summary Recently much attention has been directed to the validation of analytical methods. The level of validation will depend on the method application. If a method is developed for general use, for instance by different analysts, instruments or laboratories, then the effect of these changes need evaluation. This is normally referred to as ruggedness testing, where the limitations of the method to changes in the specified conditions are examined.This paper examines the use of Plackett-Burman fractional factorial experiment designs for ruggedness testing in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The ability of these designs to identify confounding effects is applied to the stability indicating analysis of Salbutamol and its major degradation product, AH4045. The results show that confounding effects, proving extremely pertinent to HPLC, can be identified.The assay proved rugged to most tested changes although not to the use of column packing material from different manufacturers.     

Tuning Local Charge Distribution in Multicomponent Covalent Organic Frameworks for Dramatically Enhanced Photocatalytic Uranium Extraction

Optimizing the electronic structure of covalent organic framework (COF) photocatalysts is essential for maximizing photocatalytic activity. Herein, we report an isoreticular family of multivariate COFs containing chromenoquinoline rings in the COF structure and electron-donating or withdrawing groups in the pores. Intramolecular donor-acceptor (D-A) interactions in the COFs allowed tuning of local charge distributions and charge carrier separation under visible light irradiation, resulting in enhanced photocatalytic performance. By optimizing the optoelectronic properties of the COFs, a photocatalytic uranium extraction efficiency of 8.02 mg/g/day was achieved using a nitro-functionalized multicomponent COF in natural seawater, exceeding the performance of all COFs reported to date. Results demonstrate an effective design strategy towards high-activity COF photocatalysts with intramolecular D-A structures not easily accessible using traditional synthetic approaches.

Summary The general solution is given for steady two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic flows of an incompressible, inviscid, fluid having infinite electrical conductivity when the angle between the magnetic field and the velocity field is every where constant.
