Solution properties of polyoxymethylene

Light scattering and viscosity have been measured at 25°C. for dilute solutions of six unfractionated polyoxymethylene samples in the mixed solvent hexafluoroacetone–water (mole ratio 1/1.7) slightly buffered with triethylamine. Dialysis equilibrium through porous Vycor glass thimbles indicates that the polymer is strongly solvated by the hydrate (CF₃)₂C(OH)₂, and this must be taken into account in evaluating weight-average molecular weights from the light-scattering data. Over the molecular weight range 23,000–185,000, the intrinsic viscosities (in deciliter per gram) follow the relation The corresponding unperturbed dimensions are σ = 2.3 ± 0.2 or r₀²/nl² = 10.5 ± 1.5.     

Thermomicroscopic and ultraviolet spectrophotometric identification of steroid hormones

Thermomicroscopic data (melting points or intervals, eutectic temperatures, refractive indices of the melts) have been determined for 70 steroid hormones and are tabulated in order of increasing melting temperature. Ultraviolet absorption data, specially determined or taken from the literature, are given in place of refractive index data when the latter could not be determined accurately because of decomposition.

1-, 2-cis-, 2-trans-, and 3-trans-heptenes (C₇)are isomerized either very slowly or not at all with IrX(CO)L₂ at 80°C in toluene and under N₂. However, under the conditions of hydrogenation fast isomerisation takes place. With IrCl(CO)L₂ as catalyst the rate of isomerisation decreases the order: 1-C₇ ∼ 2-cis-C₇ > 3-trans-C₇ > 2-trans-C₇. This sequence is independent of the ligand L in lrCl(CO)L₂, however, with a particular isomer the rate of isomerisation is a function of L in the order L = PPh₃ > P(C₆H₁₁)3 > P(OPh)₃.     

Flash photolysis resonance fluorescence study of the reaction Cl + O3 → ClO + O2 over the temperature range 213–298 K

Rate constants for the removal of Cl atoms in the reaction Cl + O₃ → ClO + O₂ were measured by the flash photolysis resonance fluorescence technique over the temperature range 213–298 K. The rate constant is given by the Arrhenius expression (2.94 ± 0.49) × 10^?11 exp[?(298 ± 39)/T] in units of cm³ molecule^?1 s^?1. Comparison with recent results from other laboratories are presented.     

A semiempirical model for the two-center repulsion integrals in the NDDO approximation

A self-consistent formalism is proposed for the two-center electron repulsion integrals in the NDDO approximation, based on their expansion in terms of multipole-multipole interactions and free from adjustable parameters.

Preparation and physical and chemical properties of 3-ethinyl-2,4-diformyl-pentandial (3 a) and its salts are described.3 a contains 2 malonaldehyde groups. Starting from3 a, 4H-pyranes, 4H-dihydropyridines, dipyrazoles, diisoxazoles, bisdiazepines and vinamidine derivates are obtained.
