Submodular linear programs on forests

A general linear programming model for an order-theoretic analysis of both Edmonds' greedy algorithm for matroids and the NW-corner rule for transportation problems with Monge costs is introduced. This approach includes the model of Queyranne, Spieksma and Tardella (1993) as a special case. We solve the problem by optimal greedy algorithms for rooted forests as underlying structures. Other solvable cases are also discussed.

The preparation of the radical anions of tetrabenzocyclooctatetraene (TBCOT) and fluorene (FLH) by photochemical methods leads to the observation of novel structures.     

S-convex,monotone, and positive interpolation with rational bicubic splines of C2-continuity

In this paper we deal with shape preserving interpolation of data sets given on rectangular grids. The aim is to show that there exist spline interpolants of the continuity classC ² which areS-convex, monotone, or positive if the data sets have these properties. This is done by using particular rational bicubic splines defined on the grids introduced by the data. Interpolants of the desired type can be constructed by a simple search procedure.

Treatment of the (Z)-isomers 6 and 7 of the four isomeric 16-acetoxy-17-hydroxyimino-steroids 6–9 with DCC/DMSO/CF₃COOH (Moffat fragmentation of oximes) yielded the seco-α-acetoxy-nitriles 10 and 11 , respectively, while similar treatment of both (E)-isomers 8 and 9 gave the formyl-carbonitrile 14. The mechanism of these fragmentations is discussed. ¹³C-NMR. data of oximes are presented which show the γ-gauche effect being associated with σ (C? H)-bond polarization.     

Coupled channel analysis of inner-shell vacancy formation in superheavy quasimolecules

We calculate the ionization probability of the quasimolecular 1sσ-state in collisions of very heavy ions with (Z ₁+Z ₂) α?1. Multistep excitation processes between bound and continuum states are investigated. Due to the multistep processes the number of created 1sσ-vacancies is typically increased by a factor 2–5 over that obtained within time-dependent perturbation theory (i.e. the one-step processes). Some implications of the many-electron problem and the Pauli principle are discussed. The δ-electron distribution is compared with recent experimental data.
