Anomalous muon production in e+e− annihilations as evidence for heavy leptons

We have measured inclusive muon production in e⁺e^? annihilation for CMS energies between 3.6 and 5.0 GeV. Above 4 GeV the cross section cannot be explained by conventional sources like higher order QED processes or inclusive production of the $\text{J}\text{?}$ (3.1). It is, however, compatible with the pair production of heavy particles of a mass of about 1.9 GeV/c². Spin assignment and decay parameters are investigated.     

Inclusive Jψ production in e+e− annihilation in the energy range from 4.0 to 5.0 GeV

We report on inclusive production of $\text{J}\text{ψ}$ (3.1)-mesons observed in e⁺e^?-annihilation in the energy range $\text{s}\text{= 4.0–5.0}\text{GeV}$. After substraction of the radiative tail of the ψ(3.7) direct production of the $\text{J}\text{ψ}$ (3.1) is found to be in the order of 0.1% of the total hadronic cross section. No enhancements are seen at $\text{s}\text{= 4.03}\text{GeV}$ and 4.4 GeV. The level is in agreement with expectations from violation of the Zweig-rule.

By a modified POMERANZ-FRITSCH -reaction substituted D-glucopyrano-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-isoquinolines have been obtained in high yields from substituted N-benzyl-D-glucosamines. The structure of the products has been confirmed by N.M.R. spectroscopy.     

Analysis of immune complexes of cerebrospinal fluid by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis

From the cerebrospinal fluid of 32 patients with different neurological diseases immune complexes were isolated using protein A-Sepharose. The isolated heavy and light chains and their constituents were analyzed by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. In addition to immunoglobulins, some proteins such as albumin, apolipoprotein A-I and a number of unknown proteins were detected in all preparations. A complex consisting of three proteins with molecular masses between 52-55 kDa reacted slightly with polyclonal antibodies to glial fibrillary acidic protein. Whether the linkage between these antigens and the Ig is due to the Fab region or the Fc region remains unknown in our study. In some immune complexes of neurological diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, astrocytoma and multiple sclerosis, differences are easily recognizable in the gel pattern.     

Synthesis of protein-nucleic acid conjugates by expressed protein ligation

The synthesis of covalent conjugates of proteins and polyamide nucleic acids (PNA) is accomplished by expressed protein ligation of intein-fusion proteins and a PNA-cysteine conjugate.
