Dynamic single-mode and modulation characteristics analyses for λ/4 phase-shifted distributed feedback lasers with chirped grating

The dynamic single-mode and modulation performance of λ/4 phase-shifted distributed feedback laser diode with chirped grating (QWS-CG-DFB) are analyzed theoretically. The numerical simulation shows that, in contrast to purely QWS-DFB laser, the enhanced dynamic single-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) can be reached by QWS-CG-DFB laser. Under the smaller biasing current, the modulation band-width in presence of chirped grating is narrower, this difference shrinks for larger biasing current. For large signal modulation, the chirped grating is helpful to increase the output extinction ratio, but worsens the frequency chirping. The good dynamic characteristic can be obtained by selecting system parameters reasonably.     

Femtosecond laser-induced ZnSe nanowires on the surface of a ZnSe wafer in water

We present a simple route for ZnSe nanowire growth in the ablation crater on a ZnSe crystal surface. The crystal wafer, which was horizontally dipped in pure water, was irradiated by femtosecond laser pulses. No furnace, vacuum chamber or any metal catalyst were used in this experiment. The size of the nanowires is about 1-3 μm long and 50-150 nm in diameter. The growth rate is 1-3 μm/s, which is much higher than that achieved with molecular-beam epitaxy and chemical vapor deposition methods. Our discovery reveals a rapid and simple way to grow nanowires on designed micro-patterns, which may have potential applications in microscopic optoelectronics.     

Fabrication and properties of PLT/PLZT/PLT structures obtained by RF magnetron sputtering

Ferroelectric Pb_0.84La_0.16Ti_0.96O₃/Pb_0.96La_0.04(Zr_0.52Ti_0.48)_0.99O₃/Pb_0.84La_0.16Ti_0.96O₃ (PLT/PLZT/PLT) structures were fabricated on platinum-coated silicon wafers by RF magnetron sputtering. A Pb_0.84La_0.16Ti_0.96O₃ layer was used as a seed layer to improve the crystallization and enhance the ferroelectric properties of the PLZT film. With the PLT seed layers, the films showed excellent ferroelectric properties in terms of large remnant polarization (2P_r) of 52.7 μC/cm², lower coercive field (2E_c) of 130 kV/cm for an applied field of 500 kV/cm. Moreover, the PLT/PLZT/PLT structures exhibited good fatigue endurance after 10¹⁰ switching cycles, which was attributed to the double-sided PLT layers. They improved the electrical fatigue by eliminating the pyrochlore phase, reduced the strong (111) orientation, and assimilated the oxygen vacancies from the PLZT layer.     

Near-Field Fluorescence and Topography Characterization of a Single Nanometre Fluorophore by Apertureless Tip-Enhanced Scanning Near-Field Microscopy

Tip-enhanced near-field fluorescence and topography characterization of a single nanometre fluorophore is conducted by using an apertureless scanning near-field microscopy system. A fluorophore with size 80hm is mapped with a spatial resolution of 10hm. The corresponding near-field fluorescence data shows significant signal enhancement due to the apertureless tip-enhanced effect. With the nanometre spatial resolution capability and nanometre local tip-enhanced effect, the apertureless tip-enhanced scanning near-field microscopy may be further used to characterize a single molecule by realizing the local near-field spectrum assignment corresponding to topography at nanometre scale.

基于振幅调制的超冷铯原子高分辨光谱的实验研究，用相对于铯分子6S_1/2+6P_3/2离解限红失谐的光缔合激光作用于磁光阱中超冷铯原子，观察到通过光缔合产生的激发态超冷分子.在实验中，为了得到高信号-噪声比的光缔合光谱，利用声光调制器对俘获光进行振幅调制，将探测到的超冷铯原子的荧光信号利用lock-in技术解调.同时利用密度矩阵方程系统地分析了实验结果.     

Electrolytic coloration of O2-doped NaCl crystals

O₂²⁻-doped NaCl crystals are colored electrolytically by using a pointed cathode and a flat anode at various temperatures and voltages, which mainly benefit from appropriate coloration temperatures and voltages as well as anode structure of used electrolysis apparatus. Characteristic OH⁻, U, V₂^m, U_A, V₂, V₃, O²⁻-V_a⁺ complex, F, R₁, R₂ and M absorption bands are observed in absorption spectra of the colored crystals. Production and conversion of color centers in electrolytic coloration is explained. Current-time curves for electrolytic colorations and their relationships with electrolytic colorations were given.     

Novel electroactive poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymers containing pendant oligoaniline groups: Synthesis and properties

We present a series of novel poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymers containing pendant oligoaniline groups. A novel monomer containing oligoaniline, 2,6‐difluorobenzoyl aniline tetramer (DFAT), was synthesized by reaction of 2,6‐difluorobenzoyl chloride and parent aniline tetramer and incorporated into the aforementioned copolymers via direct copolymerization with 4,4′‐dichlorodiphenyl sulfone (DCDPS), and 4,4′‐isopropylidene diphenol (BPA) using N,N′‐dimethylacetamide as solvent. The structures of these copolymers were confirmed by FTIR, ¹H NMR, and GPC. Spectral analysis of the copolymers in different oxidation states was investigated via UV‐visible spectra. The copolymers exhibited outstanding thermal stability and good solubility in various organic solvents. Their electroactivity, explored with cyclic voltammetry, was found to increase as the content of oligoaniline in the polymer increased. The electric and dielectric properties of the copolymers were also studied in detail. The electrochromic performance of the copolymers was investigated by electrochromic photographs and transmittance spectra; the color of the copolymer thin films changes from grey (at 0.0 V), to green (at 0.4 V), to blue (at 0.6 V) and to pearl blue (at 1.0 V) and the maximum transmittance change (ΔT) at 700 nm is 42.6% (90.7% ? 48.1%). © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Highly effective and enantioselective Phospho-Aldol reaction of diphenyl phosphite with N-alkylated isatins catalyzed by quinine

Cinchona alkaloids were first successfully reported to promote enantioselective Phospho-Aldol reaction of diphenyl phosphite to a variety of N-alkylated isatin derivatives in good to excellent yields (up to 99%) and moderate to good enantioselectivities (up to 73% ee) almost in no time.     

Preparation of Titania Monolith Column and Application in Determination of Benzoic Acid by HILIC

The titania monolith column has been synthesized through a template-free sol–gel route, and a simple and reliable method for the determination of benzoic acid by hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography using the prepared titania monolith has been developed. The influences of acetonitrile, acetate buffer and buffer pH on the retention of benzoic acid were investigated. Benzoic acid in carbonated drinks and fruit beverages samples were determined within 5 min and quantitative analysis was carried out by external standard method with a correlation coefficient (R ²) of 0.9984. The relative standard deviation was 0.91 % and the recovery ranged from 92.5 to 101.3 %. The proposed method is suitable for the analysis of benzoic acid in beverage samples.
