On the Dispersion of Metals in Supported Catalysts. II. Small Angle X-ray Investigation. on Platinum/Alumina and Palladium/Alumina Catalysts The metal dispersion in 0.5% Pd/A1₂O₃. 0.5°% Pt/Al₂O₃ abd 1.5% Pt/Al₂O₃ catalysts was investigated by small angle X-ray scattering, Using a Kratky camera the difference scattering curves catalyst-carrier were evaluated. The assumption was made that the scattering centres are globular and that there is no interparticular scattering. From the Guinier approximation the Guinier radii R_G of the metal particles were determined. With the Pd catalyst always positive difference scattering curves were found, whereas negative values were found with the Pt catalysts at a scattering angle greater than 0.022 rad. Therefore only for the sample with 0.5% Pd the Porod invariant \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$ {\rm \tilde Q}$\end{document} and the Porod radius R_P could be determined. From R_G and R_P the parameters of a two- and of a one-parametric distribution were calculated. The results are in good agreement with data from wide angle X-ray diffraction measurements.     

The UV-laser excited resonance raman spectrum of the I3 ion

Solutions of cesium tri-iodide and potassium iodide and iodine in water show a strong resonance Raman effect of the I⁻₃ ion when excited by the ultraviolet lines at 3638 and 3511 Å of an argon ion laser, High intensity overtone progressions of the “symmetric” vibration ν_i were observed. This progression allows the confirmation of the presence of the I⁻₃ ion in iodine-methanol solutions.     

The prism algorithm for two-electron integrals

A new approach to the evaluation of two-electron repulsion integrals over contracted Gaussian basis functions is developed. The new scheme encompasses 20 distinct, but interrelated, paths from simple shell-quartet parameters to the target integrals, and, for any given integral class, the path requiring the fewest floating-point operations (FLOPS ) is that used. Both theoretical (FLOP counting) and practical (CPU timing) measures indicate that the method represents a substantial improvement over the HGP algorithm.

Gas chromatographic determination of estrone,estradiol and estriol in non-pregnancy plasma

Summary A gas Chromatographic method for the determination of estrone, estradiol and estriol in plasma of normal females is described. Purification is done by means of TLC of the free compounds and the acetates and quantitation is achieved by electron capture-gas chromatography of the estrogen heptafluorobutyrates. Experiments on the validation of the method are described along with some examples of its application.

Zusammenfassung Eine gaschromatographische Methode zur Bestimmung von Östron, Östradiol und Östriol im normalen weiblichen Plasma wurde beschrieben. Die Reinigung erfolgte durch Dünnschichtchromatographie der freien Verbindungen und ihrer Acetate. Die quantitative Bestimmung wurde gaschromatographisch mit Hilfe eines Elektroneneinfangdetektors an Hand der Östrogenheptafluorobutyrate bewerkstelligt. Versuche zur Bewertung dieser Methode sowie Beispiele für ihre Anwendung wurden beschrieben.

Gas-chromatographische Trennung isomerer aromatischer C6-C10-Kohlenwasserstoffe

Separation of isomeric aromatic hydrocarbons from each other has been obtained using packed columns and Bentone 34 modified with silicone oil and lanolin. For maximum resolution the proportions of the modifying agents are very important. Retention data and chromatograms of two different column types are given (column 1∶6% Bentone 34; 2,5% lanolin; 1,5% silicone oil. Column 2∶10% silicone oil; 5% bentone 34; 4% lanolin)
