Facile Method for Trimethylsilylation of Alcohols using Hexamethyldisilazane and Ammonium Thiocyanate under Neutral Conditions

A highly efficient method for trimethylsilylation of primary, secondary, tertiary, allylic, and a variety of sugar‐derived alcohols using hexamethyldisilazane in the presence of a catalytic amount of ammonium thiocyanate under neutral conditions is reported.     

Synthesis of eight-membered iminocyclitols from d-glucose

The Baylis-Hillman reaction of 3-O-benzyl-α-d-xylo-pentodialdo-1,4-furanose 2 afforded a diastereomeric mixture of l-ido- and d-gluco-configurated α-methylene-β-hydroxy esters 3a and 3b, respectively, in 1:1 ratio. Conjugate addition of benzyl amine on 3a gave adduct 4a as a major product while, addition of benzyl amine to 3b gave only one diastereomer 4b. Reduction of ester functionality in 4a/4b, opening of 1,2-acetonide functionality followed by reductive amino-cyclization under hydrogenation condition afforded azocanes 1c/1d in good yield.     

Structural, optical and electrical properties of cadmium zinc oxide films for light emitting devices

Structural, optical and electrical properties of Cd_yZn_1-yO (y=0–0.1) ternary alloy thin films have been investigated for the films prepared using the spin coating method on the glass substrate. XRD pattern confirmed the nano-size polycrystalline hexagonal wurtzite structure for all the samples. The size of nano-crystals was found to be varied in between 21 and 30 nm. Optical band gap calculated from the absorption coefficient signifies the shift in direct band gap from 3.2 to 2.97 eV with cadmium composition. Through EDAX spectrum, it was confirmed that Cadmium was successfully incorporated into ZnO. SEM studies make clear that even after Cadmium incorporation, the surface morphology of the films remained smooth. The current–voltage characteristics obtained from semiconductor characterization system reveals that resistance of the films was found to be decreased with the increase in cadmium composition. Our investigations lead to the applicability of CdZnO as an active layer in CdZnO/ZnO heterostructure for light emitting devices.     

Skew Disperson and Continuity of Local Time

Results are provided that highlight the effect of interfacial discontinuities in the diffusion coefficient on the behavior of certain basic functionals of the diffusion, such as local times and occupation times, extending previous results in (Appuhamillage et al., Ann Appl Probab 21:183–214, 2011; Water Resour Res 46:W07511, 2009) on the behavior of first passage times. The main goal is to obtain a characterization of large scale parameters and behavior by an analysis at the fine scale of stochastic particle motions. In particular, considering particle concentration modeled by a diffusion equation with piecewise constant diffusion coefficient, it is shown that the continuity of a natural modification of local time is the individual (stochastic) particle scale equivalent to continuity of flux at the scale of the (macroscopic) particle concentrations. Consequences of this involve the determination of a skewness transmission probability in the presence of an interface, as well as corollaries concerning interfacial effects on occupation time of the associated stochastic particles.     

A Facile Synthesis of Substituted 2‐(5‐(Benzylthio)‐1,3,4‐oxadiazol‐2‐yl)pyrazine Using Microwave Irradiation and Conventional Method with Antioxidant and Anticancer Activities

A series of novel substituted 2‐(5‐(benzylthio)‐1,3,4‐oxadiazol‐2‐yl)pyrazine derivatives ( 6a – n ) were synthesized under microwave irradiation and conventional conditions with less reaction time with good to excellent yields. All the synthesized compounds were screened for antioxidant and anticancer activities. Out of the 14 prepared derivatives, compounds 6f and 6m were most potent and active with antioxidant and anticancer activities, respectively. Also, the developed technique was simple, easy, and less time consuming.     

Palladium incorporated on carbonaceous catalyst for Suzuki coupling reaction in water

A new palladium incorporated carbonaceous catalyst Pd@CCSO₃HNH₂ was synthesized by introducing palladium on glucose derived carbocatalyst. The catalyst was well characterized and was used for the Suzuki coupling of phenyl boronic acid with different aryl halides under aqueous conditions. This green methodology represents a ligand free, cost-effective and operationally convenient method for the synthesis of a variety of biaryl’s under the conditions that are tolerant for a broad range of functional groups with good to excellent yields. Moreover, the catalyst could be easily recycled and reused at least five times without any significant loss of its catalytic activity.     

Effect of annealing temperature on the optical and electrical properties of aluminum doped ZnO films

Aluminum doped ZnO thin films were successfully deposited on the silicon substrates by spin coating method. The effects of an annealing temperature on electrical and optical properties were investigated for 1.5 at.% of aluminum. Refractive index profile has been obtained for the film annealed at 350 °C using ellipsometry and it has shown minimum refractive index of 1.95 and maximum value of 2.1. Thickness profile shows quite good uniformity of the film having minimum thickness value of 30.1 nm and maximum value of 34.5 nm. Maximum conductivity value obtained was 4.63 Ω^?1-cm^?1 for the film annealed at 350 °C. Maximum carrier density of 2.20 × 10¹⁷ cm^?3 was deduced from the Hall measurement and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy clearly reveals major peak at 407 cm^?1 in the spectra associated with the ZnO bond.     

Infection Dynamics of ATG8 in Leishmania: Balancing Autophagy for Therapeutics

In many regions of the world, Leishmaniasis is a cause of substantial mortality and ailment. Due to impediment in available treatment, development of novel and effective treatments is indispensable. Significance of autophagy has been accentuated in infectious disease as well as in Leishmaniasis, and it is having capability to be manifested as a therapeutic target. By evincing autophagy as a novel therapeutic regime, this study emphasized on the critical role of ATG4.1-ATG8 and ATG5-ATG12 complexes in Leishmania species. The objective here was to identify ATG8 as a potential therapeutic target in Leishmania. R71T, P56E, R18P are the significant mutations which shows detrimental effect on ATG8 while Arg276, Arg73, Cys75 of ATG4.1 and Val88, Pro89, Glu116, Asn117, and Gly120 are interacting residues of ATG8. Along with this, we also bring into spotlight an enticing role of Thiabendazole derivatives that interferes with the survival mechanisms by targeting ATG8. Further, the study claims that thiabendazole can be a potential drug candidate to target autophagy process in the infectious disease Leishmaniasis.
