MAX-phases being usually composed of transition metals, group A elements and carbon/nitrogen are considered interesting materials for many applications because of their tremendous bulk modulus, “reversible” plasticity, and machinability. This is mainly due to their unique kind of bonding comprising covalent, ionic as well as metallic bonds providing “easy” planes of rupture and deformability due to the layered crystal structures.In transition metal boride systems, similar types of bonding are available. In particular the W2B5-structure type and its stacking variations allow the synthesis of strongly layered crystal structures exhibiting unique delamination phenomena.The paper presents ab initio calculations showing the similarities of bonding between the ternary carbides and the corresponding ternary or quaternary borides. Formation of boride-based nano-laminates from auxiliary liquid phases, from the melt as well as during sintering and precipitation from supersaturated solid solutions will be discussed by means of SEM and TEM studies. The role of impurities weakening the interlayer bonding will be addressed in particular. The pronounced cleavage parallel to the basal plane gives rise for crack deflection and pull-out mechanisms if the laminates are dispersed in brittle matrices such as boron carbide, silicon carbide or other transition metal borides. 相似文献

Ligand chemical shifts are calculated and analyzed for three paramagnetic transition metal tris-acetylacetonato (acac) complexes, namely high-spin Fe(III) and Cr(III), and low-spin Ru(III), using scalar relativistic density functional theory (DFT). The signs and magnitudes of the paramagnetic NMR ligand chemical shifts are directly related to the extent of covalent acac oxygen-to-metal σ donation involving unoccupied metal valence d(σ) acceptor orbitals. The role of delocalization of metal-centered spin density over the ligand atoms plays a minor secondary role. Of particular interest is the origin of the sign and magnitude of the methyl carbon chemical shift in the acac ligands, and the role played by the DFT delocalization error when calculating such shifts. It is found that the α versus β spin balance of oxygen σ donation to metal valence d acceptor orbitals is responsible for the sign and the magnitude of the ligand methyl carbon chemical shift. A problematic case is the methyl carbon shift of Fe(acac)(3). Most functionals produce shifts in excess of 1400 ppm, whereas the experimental shift is approximately 279 ppm. Range-separated hybrid functionals that are optimally tuned for Fe(acac)(3) based on DFT energetic criteria predict a lower limit of about 2000 ppm for the methyl carbon shift of the high-spin electronic configuration. Isotope reference materials are needed to calibrate and validate analytical procedures used for the determination of isotope amount ratios, procedurally defined isotope ratios or so-called δ values. In contrast to the huge analytical progress in isotope ratio analytics, the production of isotope reference materials has not kept pace with the increasing needs of isotope analysts. Three representative isotope systems are used to explain the technical and non-technical difficulties and drawbacks, on one hand, and to demonstrate what can be achieved at its best, on the other hand. A clear statement is given that new isotope reference materials are needed to obtain traceable and thus comparable data, which is essential for all kinds of isotope research. The range of available isotope reference materials and δ reference materials should be increased and matrix reference materials certified for isotope compositions or δ values, which do not exist yet, should be provided. 相似文献

One-bond Pt-Pt nuclear spin-spin coupling constants J(Pt-Pt) for closely related dinuclear Pt complexes can differ by an order of magnitude without any obvious correlation with Pt-Pt distances. As representative examples, the spin-spin couplings of the dinuclear Pt(I) complexes [Pt(2)(CO)(6)](2+) (1) and [Pt(2)(CO)(2)Cl(4)](2-) (2) have been computationally studied with a recently developed relativistic density functional method. The experimental values are (1)J((195)Pt-(195)Pt) = 5250 Hz for 2 but 551 Hz for 1. Many other examples are known in the literature. The experimental trends are well reproduced by the computations and can be explained based on the nature of the ligands that are coordinated to the Pt-Pt fragment. The difference for J(Pt-Pt) of an order of magnitude is caused by a sensitive interplay between the influence of different ligands on the Pt-Pt bond, and relativistic effects on metal-metal and metal-ligand bonds as well as on "atomic orbital contributions" to the nuclear spin-spin coupling constants. The results can be intuitively rationalized with the help of a simple qualitative molecular orbital diagram. 相似文献

Quantum chemical DFT calculations at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) level have been used to study the stereochemical course of the photochemical cycloaddition of enone 9 with dienes. The observed products of this photochemically induced cycloaddition showed a stereoselectivity, which is opposite to what would be expected by FMO considerations. The quantum chemical calculations revealed that the unusual stereoselectivity of the reaction can be rationalized by assuming a stereospecific photochemical cis-trans isomerization of enone 9 to trans isomer 9a followed by a thermal Diels-Alder reaction of the diene onto the highly reactive trans enone. The photochemical reaction step involves the selective formation of a twisted triplet intermediate, which accounts for the selectivity of the reaction. 相似文献

Structure and Electrochemical Study of Nb3Cl8 The compound Nb3Cl8 was synthesized from NbCl5 and niobium metal in a sealed quartz ampoule at 700 °C. Single crystals, obtained from LiCl melt were used for X‐ray structure determination (space group P 3 m1, Z = 2, lattice parameters a = b = 672.95(7) pm, c = 1223.2(2) pm (at 100 K), R1 = 0.029, wR2 = 0.064 for all independent reflections). The nitrate radical, NO(3), is photochemically unstable but is one of the most chemically important species in the nocturnal atmosphere. It is accompanied by the presence of dinitrogen pentoxide, N(2)O(5), with which it is in rapid thermal equilibrium at lower tropospheric temperatures. These two nitrogen oxides participate in numerous atmospheric chemical systems. NO(3) reactions with VOCs and organic sulphur species are important, or in some cases even dominant, oxidation pathways, impacting the budgets of these species and their degradation products. These oxidative reactions, together with the ozonolysis of alkenes, are also responsible for the nighttime production and cycling of OH and peroxy (HO(2) + RO(2)) radicals. In addition, reactions of NO(3) with biogenic hydrocarbons are particularly efficient and are responsible for the production of organic nitrates and secondary organic aerosol. Heterogeneous chemistry of N(2)O(5) is one of the major processes responsible for the atmospheric removal of nitrogen oxides as well as the cycling of halogen species though the production of nitryl chloride, ClNO(2). The chemistry of NO(3) and N(2)O(5) is also important to the regulation of both tropospheric and stratospheric ozone. Here we review the essential features of this atmospheric chemistry, along with field observations of NO(3), N(2)O(5), nighttime peroxy and OH radicals, and related compounds. This review builds on existing reviews of this chemistry, and encompasses field, laboratory and modelling work spanning more than three decades. 相似文献
