Investigation of metal-containing carbon nanostructures prepared from functional polymers

Metal-containing carbon nanostructures are prepared by heating poly(vinyl alcohol) in mineral media with a lamellar structure at a temperature below 300°C. It is demonstrated that three possible types of nanostructures can be formed, namely, multilayer carbon nanotubes, spherical carbon nanoparticles, and finely crystalline carbon structures. According to the data of transmission electron microscopy, the nanotube size falls in the range from 50 to 300 nm and the nanotubes themselves have a stranded structure.     

Odd triplet superconductivity in superconductor ferromagnet structures: a survey

We review the main features of odd triplet superconductivity in superconductor-ferromagnet (S/F) structures. We discuss the different types of superconducting condensate that can be experimentally observed and pay special attention to the triplet component induced in a ferromagnet which is in contact with a superconductor. The triplet component is an even function of the momentum and an odd function of the frequency and leads to novel phenomena. PACS 74.78.Fk; 73.23.-b; 74.50.+r; 75.70.-i     

Deformations of positive linear operators of type B

The concept of the deformation of positive linear operators of type B is introduced, in particular, that of a linear deformation of operators. These concepts are applied to the solving of operator equations of type B. One solves completely the problems of the determination of all positive linear operators of type B for which the covariance of the operators is 1) a polynomial of degrees 3; 2) any power function; 3) an exponential function. In addition, one finds; two families of positive linear operators of type B for which the covariance is a polynomial of degree four.Translated from Ukrainskii Matematicheskii Zhurnal, Vol. 42, No. 7, pp. 888–900, July, 1990.     

Cyclic deformation of aluminium and its alloys

The formation of slip bands is the main mechanism of cyclic deformation in pure Al. Their density, orientation and heights in polycrystalline Al were investigated during cycling. Types, sizes and densities of precipitates are responsible for the mode of cyclic deformation in AlCu4 pure alloy. In technical Al alloys intermetallic phases have detrimental effects on deformation homogeneity and largely govern the fatigue mechanism of the material and especially microcrack initiation.

Properties of 1,1,1-trifluoro-3-(2-thenoyl)acetone and its reactions with hydrazine hydrate, 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine, and 1,1-dimethylhydrazone are studied.
