Evaporation of two liquid droplets moving sequentially through high-temperature combustion products

We have performed an experimental study of the evaporation intensity for droplets in atomized-liquid flow moving through a flame of fixed height. Integral characteristics of the atomized-liquid evaporation process were evaluated. Evaporation of two water droplets moving sequentially one after the other through high-temperature combustion products is analyzed. A comparison of obtained data with available theoretical predictions is given.

Experimental observation and numerical simulation of spectra of solid-anode X-ray tubes

Possibilities of the experimental measurement and theoretical modeling of a fluorescence spectrum of a solid-anode X-ray tube are studied. A setup for the direct measurement of spectra of X-ray tubes of different types is created, spectra of a commercial BKh15 Svetlana X-ray tube are measured in wide range of anode voltages and currents. Calculations of spectra using the Ebel algorithm (Horst Ebel, 2006) with the parameters recommended in the original work ensure the satisfactory quality of the reproduction of the measured spectra, but demonstrate some statistically noticeable deviations. The optimization of model parameters ensures the improvement of the quality of simulation.     

An NMR, DSC, and IR spectroscopy study of the composite formed during low-temperature postradiation polymerization of C2F4 in the presence of a 3D graphene material

By solid-state magic angle-spinning nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and IR spectroscopy, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) samples obtained by low-temperature (T = ?196°C) postradiation polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene (C₂F₄) and C₂F₄ mixtures with a 3D graphene material formed by the microwave exfoliation of graphite oxide films (MEGO) have been investigated. It has been shown that the melting point of PTFE in the PTFE-MEGO composite is 332.5°C, which is 8.8°C above the melting point of pure PTFE obtained under the same conditions. According to the measured values of specific enthalpy of melting ΔH _m (51.5 and 45.4 J/g), the degrees crystallinity (x _c) of 0.63 and 0.55 have been calculated for the pure polymer and the composite, respectively. It has been also found that none of the PTFE-containing samples examined has terminal CF₃ groups typical of PTFE prepared by conventional suspension polymerization.     

Ordered structures based on self-organized Au and CdSe nanoparticles

Methods for obtaining cadmium selenide and gold nanoparticles have been developed. The sizes of the nanoparticles are determined and the morphology, structure, and chemical composition of these nanoparticles and their ensembles are studied by a complex of structural methods: electron diffraction, X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and small-angle X-ray scattering. Gold nanoparticles are mainly spherical and have an average size of 10 nm. They are single-phase and have an fcc crystal structure. Samples of synthesized CdSe nanoparticles contain monodisperse spherical particles 12 nm in size with a wurtzite structure. The deposition of nanoparticles on a carbon substrate is accompanied by their self-organization into a closely packed two-dimensional structure with a pronounced texture in which all nanoparticles are oriented in the [001] direction perpendicularly to the carbon substrate plane.     

Coupling of counterpropagating light waves in low-symmetry photorefractive crystals

Coupling of two counterpropagating coherent light waves in tin hypothiodiphosphate (Sn₂P₂S₆, SPS) is usually strongly inhibited because of severe space charge limitations. Analysis of two-beam coupling gain is performed for different orientations of the grating vector in this monoclinic crystal that takes into account the anisotropy of dielectric permittivity. Gain enhancements are predicted and demonstrated experimentally for several nontraditional orientations of counterpropagating waves.     

Investigation of charged-hadron production in proton–nucleus interactions at the energy of 50 GeV

Cross sections for the production of high-transverse-momentum charged hadrons in proton–nucleus interactions at the incident-proton energy of 50 GeV were measured with the aid of the FODS double-arm spectrometer. Single hadrons (charged pions and protons) emitted at a c.m. angle of about 90° and high-effective-mass pairs of hadrons flying apart at a c.m. angle of 180° were detected simultaneously. Results on the production of single hadrons are presented.
