Approximation of bandlimited functions

Many signals encountered in science and engineering are approximated well by bandlimited functions. We provide suitable error bounds for the approximation of bandlimited functions by linear combinations of certain special functions—the prolate spheroidal wave functions of order 0. The coefficients in the approximating linear combinations are given explicitly via appropriate quadrature formulae.     

Room temperature Ni-catalyzed reduction of aryl tosylates by borane hydrides

Mild Ni-catalyzed homogeneous reductions of aryl tosylates are described for the first time. The catalytic system Ni(PPh₃)₂Cl₂ and PCy₃ is shown to be general for hydrogenolysis of a wide range of tosylates, including hindered, deactivated, heterocyclic, and bifunctional examples.     

On Inequalities with Measures of Sobolev Type Embedding Theorems on Open Sets of the Real Axis

We consider some Sobolev-type spaces and obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for their embedding in a Lebesgue space.     

The Problem of the Pointwise Fourier Inversion for Piecewise Smooth Functions of Several Variables

We study the pointwise convergence problem for the inverse Fourier transform of piecewise smooth functions, i.e., whether S_rD f (\bx) ? f (\bx)S_{\rho D} f (\bx) \to f (\bx) as r? ￥\rho \to \infty . r? ￥\rho \to \infty . Here for \bx,\bxi ? \Rn\bx,\bxi \in \Rn S_rDf(\bmx)=\dsf1(2p)^n/2\intli_rD [^(f)](\bxi) e^{\dst iá\bmx,\bxi?} d\bxi . S_{\rho D}f(\bm{x})=\dsf1{(2\pi)^{n/2}}\intli_{\rho D} \widehat{f}(\bxi) e^{\dst i\langle\bm{x},\bxi\rangle} d\bxi~. is the partial sum operator using a convex and open set DD containing the origin, and rD={ r\bxi:\bxi ? D }\rho D=\left\{ \rho \bxi:\bxi\in D \right\}.     

Temperature and junction-type dependency of Andreev reflection in MgB2

We studied the voltage and temperature dependency of the dynamic conductance of normal metal-MgB₂ junctions obtained either with the point-contact technique (with Au and Pt tips) or by making Ag-paint spots on the surface of MgB₂ samples. The fit of the conductance curves with the generalized BTK model gives evidence of pure s-wave gap symmetry. The temperature dependency of the gap, measured in Ag-paint junctions (dirty limit), follows the standard BCS curve with 2Δ/k_BT_c=3.3. In out-of-plane, high-pressure point-contacts we obtained almost ideal Andreev reflection characteristics showing a single small s-wave gap Δ=2.6±0.2 meV (clean limit).     

On Poisson–Malcev Structures

Malcev–Poisson structure on a manifold is analogous to a Poisson structure with the Lie identity replaced by a slightly more general Malcev identity. Examples of such structures arise naturally. In the second part of the paper we study Malcev bialgebras. A theorem of characterization is proved.
