Synthesis of 2-unsubstituted imidazolones from bisamides via a one-pot,domino dehydration/base promoted cyclisation process

A one-pot, domino process was developed as an alternative approach for the preparation of 2-unsubstituted imidazolones. The methodology utilizes readily accessible bisamides, which upon a dehydration/cyclisation sequence produced imidazolones in good yields. The transformation relies on the compatibility of the dehydrating agent and base, and the reaction conditions tolerate various functional groups.     

Photoredox mediated annelation of iododifluoromethylated alcohols with 1,1-diarylethylenes

A method for the synthesis of 3,3-difluorotetrahydrofurans from iododifluoromethylated alcohols and 1,1-diarylethylenes is described. The reaction is performed under irradiation with 400?nm light emitting diodes in the presence of a cationic iridium(III) photocatalyst, [Ir(ppy)₂(dtbbpy)]PF₆, substoichiometric amounts of triphenylphosphine and sodium trifluoroacetate as a base.     

Efficient synthesis of chalcone-4′-sulfonyl chlorides and fluorides

A library of 4′-chloro- and 4′-fluorosulfonyl-substituted chalcones was prepared via the aldol-type condensation reactions of 4-acetylbenzene-1-sulfonyl halides with various aromatic aldehydes, either in absolute ethanol or glacial acetic acid, in the presence of dry HCl. This represents the first examples of chalcone sulfonyl halides in which the phenone ring bears one of these functional groups. The reactivity of the chalcone sulfonyl halides were strongly dependent on the styrene ring substituents; sulfonyl chlorides reacted with most nucleophiles (e.g. amines, alcohols), while sulfonyl fluorides reacted only with charged nucleophiles (e.g. phenolates).     

Evaluation of gamma irradiation effect on physico-chemical properties of a mixed beverage based in soy milk and grape juice

The effects of the main operation variables on the electrochemical oxidation of simulated tributyl phosphate (TBP) waste by a boron-doped diamond anode are individually studied. The optimum operating conditions are obtained as follows: 4 g L^?1 initial TBP concentration, 180 min degradation time, 40 mA cm^?2 current density, 0.5 mol L^?1 Na₂SO₄ as the supporting electrolyte, and unadjusted pH of the aqueous phase. Under such conditions, a chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal ratio of 82.3% is achieved, and the energy consumption is 26.16 kWh m^?3. A degradation mechanism of TBP is tentatively proposed.
