Synthesis and luminescence behaviour of novel heterodecanuclear silver(I)-rhenium(I) alkynyl complexes. X-ray crystal structures of [Ag6(mu-dppm)4[mu3-C[triple bond]CC[triple bond]C-Re(Me2bpy)(CO)3]4](PF6)2 and [Ag6(mu-dppm)4[mu3-C[triple bond]CC[triple bond]C-Re(Br2phen)(CO)3]4](PF6)2

A novel series of luminescent heterodecanuclear mixed-metal alkynyl complexes, [Ag6(mu-dppm)4[mu3-C[triple bond]CC[triple bond]C-Re(N--N)(CO)3]4](PF6)2, (N--N = tBu2bpy, Me2bpy, phen, Br2phen), have been successfully synthesized; the X-ray crystal structures of [Ag6(mu-dppm)4[mu3-C[triple bond]CC[triple bond]C-Re(Me2bpy)(CO)3]4](PF6)2 and [Ag6(mu-dppm)4[mu3-C[triple bond]CC[triple bond]C-Re(Br2phen)(CO)3]4](PF6)2 have also been determined.     

Functionalized platinum(II) terpyridyl alkynyl complexes as colorimetric and luminescence pH sensors

A series of platinum(II) terpyridyl alkynyl complexes that have been derivatized with basic amino functionalities, [Pt(tpy)(C[triple bond]C-C6H4-NR2-4]X (X = OTf-, R = CH3 1, R = CH2CH2OCH3 2, R = H 3; X = Cl-, R = CH3 4, R = CH2CH2OCH3 5, R = H 6) (tpy = 2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine), have been synthesized and characterized. Their photophysical responses at various acid concentrations were studied. The abilities of the complexes to function as colorimetric and luminescence pH sensors were demonstrated with dramatic color changes and luminescence enhancement upon introduction of acid.     

Asymmetric conjugate addition of thioglycolate to a range of chalcones using tetrahydroisoquinoline (TIQ) N,N′-dioxide ligands

A series of novel TIQ based N,N′-oxide ligands were synthesised and screened for their catalytic activity in the enantioselective conjugate addition of thioglycolate to chalcones. Bulky groups on the side chain of the TIQ backbone provided the highest enantioselectivity of up to 88% with 10 mol % catalyst loading. It was also observed that these reactions proceeded optimally in the presence of dichloromethane as a solvent. Screening of various metals emphasized La(OTf)₃ as the ideal pre-catalyst for this particular reaction.

99Tc NMR as a promising technique for structural investigation of biomolecules: theoretical studies on the solvent and thermal effects of phenylbenzothiazole complex

The phenylbenzothiazole compounds show antitumor properties and are highly selective. In this paper, the ⁹⁹Tc chemical shifts based on the (^99mTc)(CO)₃(NNO) complex conjugated to the antitumor agent 2‐(4′‐aminophenyl)benzothiazole are reported. Thermal and solvent effects were studied computationally by quantum‐chemical methods, using the density functional theory (DFT) (DFT level BPW91/aug‐cc‐pVTZ for the Tc and BPW91/IGLO‐II for the other atoms) to compute the NMR parameters for the complex. We have calculated the ⁹⁹Tc NMR chemical shifts of the complex in gas phase and solution using different solvation models (polarizable continuum model and explicit solvation). To evaluate the thermal effect, molecular dynamics simulations were carried, using the atom‐centered density matrix propagation method at the DFT level (BP86/LanL2dz). The results highlight that the ⁹⁹Tc NMR spectroscopy can be a promising technique for structural investigation of biomolecules, at the molecular level, in different environments. Air‐Stable Spirofluorene‐Containing Ladder‐Type Bis(alkynyl)borane Compounds with Readily Tunable Full Color Emission Properties

A series of air‐stable spiro‐fused ladder‐type boron(III) compounds has been designed, synthesized, and the electrochemistry and photophysical behavior have been characterized. By simply varying the substituents on the pyridine ring and extending the π‐conjugation of the spiro framework, the emission color of these compounds can be easily fine‐tuned spanning the visible spectrum from blue to red. All compounds exhibit a broad and structureless emission band across the entire visible region, assigned as an intramolecular charge‐transfer transition originating from the thiophene of the spiro framework to the pyridine‐borane moieties. In addition, these compounds demonstrate high photoluminescence quantum yields of up to 0.81 in dichloromethane solution and 0.86 in doped thin films. Some of the compounds have also been employed as emissive materials, in which solution‐processed organic light‐emitting devices (OLEDs) with tunable emission colors spanning the visible spectrum from blue, green to red have been realized, demonstrating the potential applications of these boron compounds in OLEDs.     

Tuning of Supramolecular Architectures of l‐Valine‐Containing Dicyanoplatinum(II) 2,2′‐Bipyridine Complexes by Metal–Metal, π–π Stacking,and Hydrogen‐Bonding Interactions

A series of newly synthesized dicyanoplatinum(II) 2,2′‐bipyridine complexes exhibits self‐assembly properties in solution after the incorporation of the l ‐valine amino units appended with various hydrophobic motifs. These l ‐valine‐derived substituents were found to have critical control over the aggregation behaviors of the complexes in the solution state. On one hand, one of the complexes was found to exhibit interesting circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) signals at low temperature due to the formation of chiral spherical aggregates in the temperature‐dependent studies. On the other hand, systematic transformation from less uniform aggregates to well‐defined fibrous and rod‐like structures via Pt???Pt and π–π stacking interactions has also been observed in the mixed‐solvent studies. These changes were monitored by UV/Vis absorption, emission, circular dichroism (CD), and CPL spectroscopies, and morphologies were studied by electron microscopy.
