In Vivo Imaging of the Tumor‐Associated Enzyme NCEH1 with a Covalent PET Probe

Herein, we report the development of an ¹⁸F‐labeled, activity‐based small‐molecule probe targeting the cancer‐associated serine hydrolase NCEH1. We undertook a focused medicinal chemistry campaign to simultaneously preserve potent and specific NCEH1 labeling in live cells and animals, while permitting facile ¹⁸F radionuclide incorporation required for PET imaging. The resulting molecule, [¹⁸F]JW199, labels active NCEH1 in live cells at nanomolar concentrations and greater than 1000‐fold selectivity relative to other serine hydrolases. [¹⁸F]JW199 displays rapid, NCEH1‐dependent accumulation in mouse tissues. Finally, we demonstrate that [¹⁸F]JW199 labels aggressive cancer tumor cells in vivo, which uncovered localized NCEH1 activity at the leading edge of triple‐negative breast cancer tumors, suggesting roles for NCEH1 in tumor aggressiveness and metastasis.     

Excess enthalpies of aqueous solutions of polyols at 25°

The excess enthalpies of aqueous solutions of nine polyols were determined at 25°C and reported in the virial form. The most interesting and new feature of this family of solutes is that the sign of the enthalpic pair interaction coefficients h_xx is positive for the first members of the series and negative for the higher homologues. Other points are the large differences found among the values of h_xx for stereoisomers, whereas pairs of enantiomers show the same values within experimental errors. An application of the group additivity method is also discussed.     

Entangling macroscopic oscillators exploiting radiation pressure

It is shown that radiation pressure can be profitably used to entangle macroscopic oscillators like movable mirrors, using present technology. We prove a new sufficient criterion for entanglement and show that the achievable entanglement is robust against thermal noise. Its signature can be revealed using common optomechanical readout apparatus.     

A critical analysis of the hand and Othmer-Tobias correlations

Fluid Phase Equilibria, 2: 39–47.The Hand (H) and Othmer-Tobias (OT) correlations are extensively analyzed on 83 aqueous and 26 non-aqueous ternary systems. Twenty solutropic systems are also included. 65% and 58% of the systems give a linear correlation coefficient greater than 0.99 for H and OT respectively.An analysis of the sensitivity to systematic or random errors demonstrates the H correlation to be highly insensitive. A remarkable insensitivity, although not completly for some systematic errors, is also demonstrated for the OT correlation. However there is sufficient proof that they are both unsuitable as a check of experimental data, even though they are used for this purpose.The relation, not necessarily linear, derived from the H correlation, log(x₃₂/x₂₂) vs. log(x₃₁/x₁₁) is useful in locating the plait point.

Magnetic and structural properties of nanocomposite Co-Ni-Cr-Al-Y-N thin films

The relation between structural and magnetic properties of Co-Ni-Cr-Al-Y-N thin films deposited by reactive r.f. magnetron sputtering was investigated. A marked change in the magnetic behaviour of the films with the different nitrogen partial pressure in the Ar/N₂ deposition atmosphere was observed and qualitatively explained in correlation with the phase composition. The nanocrystalline metal solid-solution obtained at low N₂ content and the nanocrystalline nitride/amorphous composite obtained at high N₂ content are not magnetic, whereas the amorphous phase produced for intermediate N₂ pressures behaves like a ferromagnetic semi-permanent material. The results demonstrate the possibility of modulating the magnetic properties of r.f. magnetron sputtered Co-Ni-Cr-Al-Y-N thin films, thus opening a new route for magnetic multilayer deposition. From X- to O-shaped spatiotemporal spectra of light filaments in water

We show that the angle-wavelength spectra of light filaments excited by ultrashort pulses experience a transition from X- to O-like structures when their carrier wavelengths are switched from normal to anomalous dispersion. Calculations confirm that the O-shaped conical emission follows the elliptic geometry of the nonlinear Schr?dinger equation with anomalous dispersion.
