Coordination of Bimuth(III) to Cucurbit[8]uril. Preparation and X‐ray Structure of [{Bi(NO3)(H2O)5}2(Q8)][Bi(NO3)3(H2O)4]2[Bi(NO3)5]2·Q8·19H2O

Bi(NO₃)₃ reacts with cucurbit[8]uril, (Q8), in 3M HNO₃ to give the title complex whose structure includes three discrete Bi complexes: [{Bi(NO₃)(H₂O)₅}₂(Q8)]⁴⁺ (CN of Bi = 9, both NO₃^— and cucurbit[8]uril are bidentate), [Bi(NO₃)₅]^2— (CN of Bi = 10, all NO₃^— are bidentate), and [Bi(NO₃)₃(H₂O)₄] (CN of Bi = 10, all NO₃^— are bidentate).     

Crystal structure of Cs[Gd(H<Subscript>2</Subscript>O)<Subscript>4</Subscript>Re<Subscript>6</Subscript>Te<Subscript>8</Subscript>(CN)<Subscript>6</Subscript>]·4H<Subscript>2</Subscript>O

The structure of the salt Cs[Gd(H₂O)₄Re₆Te₈(CN)₆]·4H₂O (space group P-1, a = 9.436(5) Å, b = 12.365(7) Å, c = 15.187(8)Å, α = 89.104(10)°, β = 86.996(10)°, γ = 82.304(9)°) has been established by single crystal XRD. The structure of the compound features layers involving Gd³⁺ cations bound to cluster anions [Re₆Te₈(CN)₆]^4? through cyanide groups. The interlayer space contains cesium cations and crystallization water molecules.     

Synthesis and crystal structure of Rb<Subscript>2</Subscript>[(UO<Subscript>2</Subscript>)<Subscript>2</Subscript>(C<Subscript>2</Subscript>O<Subscript>4</Subscript>)<Subscript>2</Subscript>(SeO<Subscript>4</Subscript>)] · 1.33H<Subscript>2</Subscript>O

The single crystals of Rb₂[(UO₂)₂(C₂O₄)₂(SeO₄)] · 1.33H₂O were synthesized and studied by X-ray diffraction. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P2₁/m, Z= 2, the unit cell parameters: a = 5.6537(8), b = 18.736(3), c = 9.4535(15) Å, β = 98.440(5)°, V = 990.6(3) ų, R ₁ = 0.0506. The main structural units of the crystal are infinite layers of [(UO₂)₂(C₂O₄)₂(SeO₄)]^2?, corresponding to the crystal chemical group A₂K ₂ ⁰² B² (A = UO ₂ ²⁺ , K⁰² = C₂O ₄ ^2? , B² = SeO ₄ ^2? ) of uranyl complexes. The uranium-containing layers are united into a three-dimensional framework through the electrostatic interactions with the outer-sphere rubidium ions and the hydrogen bonding system involving the outer-sphere water molecules.     

New crystal modification of the di(nitrato)di(aqua)palladium(II) complex β-trans-[Pd(NO3)2(H2O)2]

Single crystals of a new modification of the di(nitrato)di(aqua)palladium(II) complex β-trans-[Pd(NO₃)₂(H₂O)₂] were obtained. Their crystal structure was determined: monoclinic crystal system, a = 5.7469(4) Å, b = 5.3942(6) Å, c = 10.0956(10) Å, β = 97.401(3)°, P2₁/c, Z = 2, d _calc = 2.851 g/cm³, Bruker X8 APEX CCD, MoK _α , 836 independent reflections, room temperature. The square-plane coordination of the Pd atom is formed by four oxygen atoms (Pd-O(NO₃) 2.003(3) Å and Pd-O(H₂O) 2.021(4) Å) and completed to a distorted bipyramid by two intramolecular contacts (Pd…O(NO₃) 2.893 Å). A comparative crystal-chemical analysis with α-trans-[Pd(NO₃)₂(H₂O)₂] was carried out.     

An Unexpected Layered Structure in Inorganic Cyanide Clusters: [Cu4(μ3-OH)4][Re4(μ3-Te)4(CN)12]

Diffusion of aqueous solutions of K₄[Re₄Te₄(CN)₁₂] and CuCl₂ in the opposite direction through silica gel gives rise to the new polymer-like compound 1 . This complex has a layered structure built from the interconnected cubane-like cluster cations [Cu₄(μ₃-OH)₄]⁴⁺ and the cluster anions [Re₄Te₄(CN)₁₂]⁴⁻ (see picture).
