We report the creation of polymeric micro/nanostructures which exhibit distinct chemical and physical characteristics from the matrix poly(N-vinyl carbazole) (PVK). The structure formation is based on atomic force microscopy (AFM) facilitated cross-linking and oxygenation. The reaction of PVK with AFM lithographically induced nanoscale discharge produces raised structures in which bridge oxygen links neighboring carbazole groups. The cross-linking by bridge oxygen converts the initially insulating PVK matrix to chemically modified conducting patterns through the formation of extended pi-conjugations. A comprehensive AFM, PES (photoelectron spectroscopy), FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), and DFT (density functional theory) analysis is presented to address the chemophysical identity of the patterned structures. Our results demonstrate new capabilities of AFM nanolithography in generating heterogeneous functional structures in a polymer matrix.  相似文献

The synthesis of a new series of 2,3-diindol-3'yl quinoxalines (DIQ), as well as a comparison of their anion recognition properties to those of our previously reported pyrrole based sensors, 2,3-dipyrrol-2'yl quinoxalines, is reported. To the best of our knowledge, this new DIQ system represents the first example of a free-standing indole-based small molecule receptor for which evidence of anion binding is available both in solution and in the solid-state. It also provides one of the few structurally characterized neutral receptor-dihydrogen phosphate complexes. This work thus serves to demonstrate the utility of indoles as an anion recognition motif.  相似文献

Peptide TZ1H, based on the heptad sequence of a coiled-coil trimer, undergoes fully reversible, pH-dependent self-assembly into long-aspect-ratio helical fibers. Substitution of isoleucine residues with histidine at the core d-positions of alternate heptads introduces a mechanism by which self-assembly is coupled to the protonation state of the imidazole side chain. Circular dichroism spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and microrheology techniques revealed that the self-assembly of TZ1H coincides with a distinct coil-helix conformational transition that occurs within a narrow pH range near the pKa of the imidazole side chains of the core histidine residues.  相似文献

PhenHDO3A is a ditopic ligand featuring a tetraazacyclododecane unit substituted by three acetate arms and one 6-hydroxy-5,6-dihydro-1,10-phenanthroline group (PhenHDO3A = rel-10-[(5R,6R)-5,6-dihydro-6-hydroxy-1,10-phenantholin-5-yl)-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7-triacetic acid). This ligand was specially designed so as to obtain highly stable heteropolymetallic assemblies. PhenHDO3A has been prepared starting from phenanthroline epoxide and either a triprotected tetraazacyclododecane or tert-butyl triester of N,N',N' '-tetraazacyclododecane-triacetic acid. The latter yields PhenHDO3A in a single step. PhenHDO3A forms kinetically stable lanthanide complexes (acid-catalyzed kinetic constant kH = (1.2 +/- 0.2) x 10(-3) s(-1) M(-1)) whose solution structure has been deduced from a quantitative analysis of the paramagnetic shifts and the longitudinal relaxation times of the proton nuclei of YbPhenHDO3A. The alcohol group of the dihydro-phenanthroline unit remains coordinated to the encapsulated metal ion despite the steric crowding brought about by this group. Furthermore, the complexes are monohydrated, as shown by luminescence lifetime measurements on EuPhenHDO3A solutions. Relaxivity titrations at 20 MHz clearly indicate that the phenanthroline unit of GdPhenHDO3A is available for the spontaneous formation of highly stable tris complexes with the Fe2+ and Ni2+ ions. The water-exchange times and the rotational correlation times of GdPhenHDO3A and Fe(GdPhenHDO3A)32+ have been deduced from variable temperature 17O NMR studies and from nuclear relaxation dispersion curves. Despite rather slow water-exchange rates (taum0 = 1.0-1.2 x 10(-6) s), relaxivity gains of 90% have been observed upon the formation of the heterometallic tris complexes. The latter rotate about four times more slowly (taur0= 398 ps) than the monomeric unit (taur0 = 105 ps) and their relaxivity is, accordingly, twice as high. The relaxivity of the tris complexes between 10 and 50 MHz is comparable to relaxivities reported for Gd3+-containing dendrimers of much higher molecular weights. The high relaxivity of the tris-PhenHDO3A lanthanide complexes is attributed to their internal rigidity.  相似文献

This paper describes a systematic study of the thermodynamics of association of bovine carbonic anhydrase II (BCA) and para-substituted benzenesulfonamides with chains of oligoglycine, oligosarcosine, and oligoethylene glycol of lengths of one to five residues. For all three of these series of ligands, the enthalpy of binding became less favorable, and the entropy less unfavorable, as the chain length of the ligands increased. The dependence on chain length of the enthalpy was almost perfectly compensated by that of the entropy; this compensation resulted in dissociation constants that were independent of chain length for the three series of ligands. Changes in heat capacity were independent of chain length for the three series and revealed that the amount of molecular surface area buried upon protein-ligand complexation did not increase with increasing chain length. Taken together, these data refute a model in which the chains of the ligands interact hydrophobically with the surface of BCA. To explain the data, a model is proposed based on decreasing "tightness" of the protein-ligand interface as the chain length of the ligand increases. This decreasing tightness, as the chain length increases, is reflected in a less favorable enthalpy (due to fewer van der Waals contacts) and a less unfavorable entropy (due to greater mobility of the chain) of binding for ligands with long chains than for those with short chains. Thus, this study demonstrates a surprising example of enthalpy/entropy compensation in a well-defined system. Understanding this compensation is integral to the rational design of high-affinity ligands for proteins.  相似文献

Microgel particles based on poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) have been shown to display an initial swelling behavior, followed by a collapse, with increasing concentration of added poly(ethylene oxide), PEO, chains. This paper considers the thermodynamic reasons for the observed expansion and subsequent shrinkage of the particles. At low concentrations of PEO, the free chains permeate into the microgel particles and cause an increase in osmotic pressure, expanding the particles. At higher concentrations of PEO, the particles are saturated and an increase in osmotic pressure in the external phase causes the particles to collapse again. The calculated magnitude of swelling and the effect of PEO molecular weight are, at least qualitatively, in agreement with the experimental observations reported elsewhere.  相似文献

The alternate deposition of polyanions and polycations leads to the formation of films called polyelectrolyte multilayer films (PEMs). Two types of growth processes are reported in the literature, leading to films that grow either linearly or exponentially with the number of deposition steps. In this article we try to establish a correlation between the nature of the growth process and the heat of complexation between the polyanions and the polycations constituting the PEM film. Isothermal titration microcalorimetry experiments performed on several polyanion/polycation systems seem to indicate that an endothermic complexation process is characteristic of an exponential film growth, whereas a strongly exothermic process corresponds to a linear growth regime. Finally, weakly exothermic processes seem to be associated with weakly exponentially growing films. These results thus show that exponentially growing processes are mainly driven by entropy. This explains why the exponential growth processes are more sensitive to temperature than the linear growing processes. This temperature sensitivity is shown on the poly-L-glutamic acid/poly(allylamine) system which grows either linearly or exponentially depending on the ionic strength of the polyelectrolyte solutions.  相似文献

A methodology for the successive regiospecific "clicking" together of three components in one pot via two triazole linkages is reported. The protocol utilizes copper(I)-mediated alkyne-azide cycloaddition reactions combined with a silver(I)-catalyzed TMS-alkyne deprotection under mild hydroalcoholic conditions. We exemplify the approach with peptide-based components to illustrate its compatibility with polyfunctionalized biomolecules. The method constitutes a promising tool for peptide ligation. We also provide a procedure for directly using TMS-alkynes as the cycloaddition partner in classical "click" chemistry.  相似文献
