The effect of lithium ion on the ordering of water in water-saturated nitrobenzene has been probed by 2H NMR, diffusion ordered spectroscopy and neutron scattering. It was shown that increased water concentration in LiClO4/wet nitrobenzene results in the formation of a metastable solvatomer with mixed water and nitrobenzene character, Li+(W/NB). This species is shown to decay over hours to two solvatomers, one dominated by nitrobenzene Li+(NB) and the other dominated by water Li+(W). To confirm the assignment of these solvation states, diffusion ordered deuterium NMR spectroscopy has been used to elucidate the hydrodynamic radii of these solvatomers. Neutron scattering yields vibrational spectroscopy information that shows how addition of lithium to the nitrobenzene/water system results in relatively slow self-organization of the water environment (hours).  相似文献

There remains an unmet need for skin tissue-based assays for the measurement of the UVA protection and efficacy of sunscreens. Here we describe development of a novel electron paramagnetic resonance assay that uses the photogeneration of reactive melanin radical as a measure of UV light penetration to melanocytes in situ in skin. We have used areas of focal melanocytic hyperplasia in the skin of Monodelphis domestica to model the human nevus. We show that we are able to use this assay to determine the monochromatic protection factors (mPF) of research and commercial sunscreens at specific narrow wavebands of UVB, UVA and blue visible light. Both commercial sunscreens, a sun protection factor (SPF) 4 and an SPF 30 product, had mPFs in the UVB range that correlated well with their claimed SPF. However, their mPF in the UVA ranges were only about one-third of claimed SPF. This technique can be used to design and assay sunscreens with optimally balanced UVA and UVB protection.  相似文献

After describing simplified equations exspressing the temparature dependency of the viscosity of carrier gases (helium, nitrogen and hydrogen ) relative to a base value, absolute relationships based on the kinetic theory of gases are discussed. Comparative data obtained using various calculation methods are given and are compared to measured values. Based on the kinetic relationshipsm, of viscosity. Finally, the influence of pressure on the viscosity is also briefly discussed. As a supplement, Viscosity data are tabulated for the three gases in the range of 0°C to 400°C in increments of 2 K, calculated using the kinetic relationships.  相似文献

The cross-polarization magic angle spinning 13C NMR spectra of Hg(SbF6)2 - 2 Arene (Arene = C6HMe5, 1,2,4,5-C6H2Me4, 1,2,3,4-C6H2Me4, or C6H6) have been measured. The spectra of the complexes of C6HMe5 and 1,2,4,5-C6H2Me4 are consistent with static η1-bonding of the mercury to the arene at an unsubstituted carbon atom, while the spectra of the 1,2,3,4-C6H2Me4 and C6H6 complexes show the arene to have time-averaged Cs or C2, and C6 symmetry respectively, at the temperature of measurement (300 K).The reduced temperature 13C NMR spectra of Hg(Arene)n2+ (n = 1 or 2; Arene = 1,3,5-C6H3R3 (R = Me, i-Pr, or t-Bu)) in SO2 solution are also reported and affirm that in these intramolecularly mobile species the mercury bonds in an η1-manner, with unsubstituted aryl carbon atoms being the strongly preferred point of mercury attachment. This site preference is further demonstrated by the solution 13C NMR spectra of Hg(Arene)n2+ (Arene = 1,2,3,4-C6H2-Me4, n = 1 or 2; Arene = 1,4-C6H4R2, R = Me or t-Bu, n = 1). The spectra of the 1,4-C6H4R2 complexes and Hg(p-C6H4-t-BuMe)2+ provide clear evidence for steric influence of the binding site.Like Hg(C6Me6)22+, but unlike most of the complexes of substituted benzenes which have been studied, Hg(1,3,5-C6H3-i-Pr3)22+ exchanges only slowly with excess free ligand.  相似文献

The reaction of some phenols with the title compound, in the presence of sodium, gives 2-(2-hydroxyaryl_piperidine derivatives. Geometrical isomers have been separated, which differ in having an equatorial (A) or axial (B) cyano group on the piperidine chair (the methyl and aryl groups are equatorial in both forms). The x-ray crystallographic structures of an example of each of A and B are reported and the proton NMR spectra are assigned.  相似文献

Hermonionic acid and its decarboxylated product have been isolated from Garciniaquaesita. 13C NMR spectral and chemical evidence indicate that hermonionic acid is 2-0-[2-(3-methylbut-2-enyl)-3-methoxy- 4-hydroxy-5-(3,7-dimethylocta-2,6-dienyl]-4-methoxy-5-(3-methylbut-2-enyl-6-hydroxybenzoic acid. The preparation of a series of macrocycles, formed by reaction of HO-(-CH2-CH2-O-)nH with 1,10-phenanthroline-2,9-dicarbonyl chloride (n = 2,3,4) and 1,8-naphthyridine-2,7-dicarbonyl chloride (n = 3,4), is described. Born—Oppenheimer potential surfaces for a bridged three-site electron-transfer system are calculated. The adiabatic potentials depend upon both the vibrational sum and difference coordinates. Along the vibrational difference coordinate, the ground-state surface has single-minimun form when the through-bridge electronic coupling is strong, and double-minimum form for weak through-bridge coupling. A complete ro structure has been obtained for propadienone (CH2CCCO) with the aid of ab initio molecular-orbital calculations. The effect of electron correlation has been investigated using third order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory. The molecule is found to be planar bent (CCC145°) and the calculated structure yields rotational constants which are in good agreemant with experimental values.  相似文献

Here we describe the story behind the link between molecular chirality and macroscopic phenomena, the latter being a probe for the direct assignment of absolute configuration of chiral molecules. First, a brief tour of the history of molecular stereochemistry, starting with the classic experiment reported by Pasteur in 1848 on the separation of enantiomorphous crystals of a salt of tartaric acid, and his conclusion that the molecules of life are chiral of single-handedness. With time, this study raised, inter alia, two fundamental questions: the absolute configuration of chiral molecules and how a molecule of given configuration shapes the enantiomorphous morphology of its crystal. As for the first question, following the beginning of crystal structure determination by X-ray diffraction in 1912, it took almost 40 years before Bijvoet assigned molecular chirality through the esoteric method involving anomalous X-ray scattering. We have been able to address and link both questions through ‘everyday concepts of left and right’ (in the words of Jack Dunitz) by the use of ‘tailor-made’ auxiliaries. By such means, it proved possible to reveal, through morphology, etch patterns, epitaxy and symmetry reduction of both chiral and, paradoxically, centrosymmetric crystals, the basic chiral symmetry of the molecules of life, the α-amino acids and sugars.  相似文献
