This paper is divided into two distinct but connected parts. In the first one we look for the best approach to the Mathematics teaching of the future engineer. This approach should have an eminently pragmatic character and should be directed towards teaching engineers to know and manage Mathematics at a tool. In the second part we illustrate how a collaboration with industry can be obtained from this kind of teaching.

We extend the notion of John’s ellipsoid to the setting of integrable log-concave functions. This will allow us to define the integral ratio of a log-concave function, which will extend the notion of volume ratio, and we will find the log-concave function maximizing the integral ratio. A reverse functional affine isoperimetric inequality will be given, written in terms of this integral ratio. This can be viewed as a stability version of the functional affine isoperimetric inequality.  相似文献

Yeasts play a key role in the production of alcoholic beverages by fermentation processes. However, because of their continuous growth, they commonly cause spoilage of the final product. Herein, we introduce dual magnetic/light-responsive self-propelled microrobots that can actively move in a beer sample and capture yeast cells. The presence of magnetic nanoparticles on the surface of the microrobots enables their magnetic actuation under fuel-free conditions. In addition, their photoactivity under visible-light irradiation leads to an overall enhancement of their swimming and yeast removal capabilities. It was found that after the application of the microrobots into a real unfiltered beer sample, these micromachines were able to remove almost 100 % of residual yeasts. In addition, these microrobots could also be added at the initial step of the fermentation process without altering the final beer properties, such as alcohol level, color, and pH. This work demonstrates the potential of using externally actuated microrobots as an innovative and low-cost solution for avoiding yeast spoilage in complex liquid environments, such as alcoholic beverages. Therefore, these autonomous self-propelled microrobots open new avenues for future applications in the food industry.  相似文献

The interaction between the organic dye, methylene blue and DNA has been studied by MCE with electrochemical detection. Interaction produces two different signals, one corresponding to free methylene blue and other, for the complex methylene blue–DNA. The hybridization between a ssDNA and a complementary sequence, specific to the severe acute respiratory syndrome virus, has been performed and studied in a thermoplastic olefin polymer of amorphous structure CE‐microchip with an end‐channel gold wire detector. Moreover, studies with a longer dsDNA, an expression vector involved in the transitory or stable expression in mammals cells, pFLAG‐CMV4, has also been performed.  相似文献

The title reaction was studied in different reaction media: aqueous salt solutions (NaNO3) and water-cosolvent (methanol) mixtures. The observed rate constants, k(obs), show normal behavior in the solutions containing the electrolyte, that is, a negative salt effect. However, the solvent effect is abnormal, because a decrease of the rate constant is observed when the dielectric constant of the reaction medium decreases. These effects (the normal and the abnormal) can be explained using the Marcus-Hush treatment for electron transfer reactions. To apply this treatment, the true, unimolecular, electron-transfer rate constants, k(et), have been obtained from k(obs) after calculation of the rate constants corresponding to the formation of the encounter complex from the separate reactants, k(D), and the dissociation of this complex, k(-D). This calculation has been carried out using an exponential mean spherical approach (EMSA).  相似文献

Infrared spectra of deuterated monofluoroacetylene, DCCF, have been recorded in the region between 320 and 850 cm?1 at an effective resolution ranging from 0.0024 to 0.0031 cm?1. In total, 6650 rotation vibration transitions were assigned to 37 bands involving the bending states with v4 + v5 and |l4+l5|, respectively, up to 3, allowing the characterisation of the ground state and of 18 vibrationally excited states. The vν5 bending fundamental has been studied for the first time. In addition, the difference band v3v4 has been detected and analysed. All the assigned transitions have been fitted simultaneously by adopting a model Hamiltonian that takes into account the vibration and rotation l?type resonances. Rotational transitions in the ground and in bending excited states reported in the literature have been included in the global analysis. The set of 57 derived spectroscopic parameters reproduces 6130 infrared and 90 microwave and millimetre?wave transitions satisfactorily with root mean square values of 5.3 × 10?4 cm?1 and 77 kHz, respectively.  相似文献

A great deal of information is accruing regarding the function of the extracellular matrix. Once thought to be simply a structural entity to surround cells, it is now known to do much more. Fibronectin in particular has received specific attention. Fibronectin is a ubiquitous glycoprotein found most abundantly in the extracellular matrix of regenerating, healing, and embryonic tissue. Vast evidence supports the fact that fibronectin participates in many diverse functions throughout the body that are relevant to vocal fold biology. This article introduces the structure of fibronectin and its isoforms and provides an introduction to some of the many functions it plays. It also reviews the evidence about fibronectin's place in vocal folds and vocal fold pathology. It discusses fibronectin's presence in vocal nodules, vocal polyps, vocal scarring, and Reinke's edema, and reviews the data on its role in mucosal wave impairment. Lastly, it discusses preliminary microarray data that show gene expression for fibronectin to be upregulated in true vocal folds when compared to false vocal folds.  相似文献

Pharyngoesophageal gastric acid reflux is thought to initiate chronic posterior laryngitis. The gold standard for measuring gastric reflux is dual-channel 24-hour pH monitoring. This is a time-consuming, inconvenient, expensive method that is not available in all areas. New therapeutic regimes that make use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) have proven to be therapeutically efficient for control of acid reflux. Twenty-four consecutive patients with chronic voice disorders and signs of posterior laryngitis were selected for therapy. Twenty-four hour pH monitoring was performed independently before the therapy. The trial therapy consisted of all patients receiving pantoprazole, 40 mg once daily for 6 weeks. Immediately following the therapy a statistically significant (p < 0.05) improvement was observed in all patients. This improvement was analyzed retrospectively by comparison with the results of 24-hour pH monitoring. In 71% of the patients the 24-hour pH-monitoring gave a positive result showing a high number of patients with extraesophageal reflux in our study group. Patients with positive results of pH-monitoring responded in a statistically significant manner (p < 0.05) to the pantoprazole therapy, whereas those patients without detected reflux did not. A 3-month follow-up of the patients with a positive result of the pH-monitoring confirmed the improvement. No patients reported adverse effects. A 6-week treatment with pantoprazole can be clinically justified. It helps to save time and reduce costs, allows for selection of reflux-negative patients for alternative therapy, and may prevent inadequate treatment of patients with false-negative pH monitoring. Twenty-four hour pH monitoring is still recommended for patients unresponsive to this trial therapy.  相似文献
