This study presents an inventory of 139 nanotechnology companies in Mexico, identifying their geographic distribution, economic sector classification, and position in the nanotechnology value chain. We find that the principal economic sector of nanotechnology-engaged firms involves the manufacture of chemical products, which largely serve as means of production (primary or intermediate materials; instruments and equipment) for industrial processes. The methodology used in this analysis could be replicated in other countries without major modifications. 相似文献

This paper describes a rapid method for fabrication of a paper substrate coated with gold nanoparticles (GNPs) that results in the formation of a large number of hot spots on the surface and allows an adequate control of the active area. The resulting substrate is shown to be a viable material for use in quantitative surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) analysis. The influence of the amount of GNPs on the SERS signals (using crystal violet as a sample analyte) was correlated with field-emission scanning electron microscopy, UV-visible and theoretical studies. The use of this substrates results in larger enhancement of Raman signals and in comparably repeatability when compared to commercially available substrates. The substrate was applied to SERS-based determination of nicotine and uric acid in aqueous solution, and the respective limits of detection are 20 and 30 μg L?1. The results indicate that the SERS substrates may be applied to the quantification of a wide variety of molecules. 相似文献

The authors apply the method of moments to the study of network formation in continuous flow stirred reactors when chain transfer to polymer and coupling are present in the reaction scheme. This approach leads to analytical solutions for the various moments involved. The authors start by assuming that the rate of coupling is proportional to the length of dead chains, which allow them to review and extend previous work in this area. This is followed by similar derivations when a coupling agent is present and the rate of coupling is proportional to the number of coupling groups that such agent leaves in dead polymer molecules, demonstrating that higher values of second order moments can be reached at lower levels of unreacted coupling agent.

Three host-guest systems have been characterized using surface tension (sigma), calorimetry, and molecular dynamics simulations (MD). The hosts were three native cyclodextrins (CD) and the guest the non-ionic carbohydrate surfactant octyl-beta-d-glucopyranoside. It is shown that, for any host-guest system, a rough screening of the most probable complex stoichiometries can be obtained in a model free form, using only calorimetric data. The sigma data were analyzed using a model that includes a newly proposed adsorption isotherm. The equilibrium constants for several stoichiometries were simultaneously obtained through fitting the sigma data. For alpha- and beta-CD, the predominant species is 1:1 and to a lesser extent 2:1, disregarding the existence of the 1:2. For gamma-CD, the 1:2 species dominates, the other two being also present. In an attempt to confirm these results, 10 ns MD simulations for each CD were performed using seven different starting conformations. The MD stable conformations agree with the results found from the experimental data. In one case, the spontaneous dissociation-formation of a complex was observed. Analysis of the trajectories indicates that hydrophobic interactions are primarily responsible for the formation and stability of the inclusion complexes. For the 2:1 species, intermolecular H-bonds between CD molecules result in a tight packed structure where their original truncated cone shape is lost in favor of a cylindrical geometry. Together, the results clearly demonstrate that the often used assumption of considering only a 1:1 species is inappropriate. 相似文献

The prevalence of bioconjugates in the biomedical sciences necessitates the development of novel mechanisms to facilitate their preparation. Towards this end, the translation of the Glaser–Hay coupling to an aqueous environment is examined, and its potential as a bioorthogonal conjugation reaction is demonstrated. This optimized, novel, and aqueous Glaser–Hay reaction is applied towards the development of bioconjugates utilizing protein expressed with an alkynyl unnatural amino acid. Unnatural amino acid technology provides a degree of bioorthognality and specificity not feasible with other methods. Moreover, the scope of the reaction is demonstrated through protein–small molecule couplings, small‐molecule–solid‐support couplings, and protein–solid‐support immobilizations. 相似文献

Analysis of Voice and Quantitative Measurement of Glottal Gap After Thyroplasty Type I in the Treatment of Unilateral Vocal Paralysis 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Thyroplasty type I is one of several surgical treatments in which improving the voice of unilateral vocal fold paralysis is the ultimate objective. The goal of the surgery is the medialization of the paralyzed vocal fold. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of thyroplasty type I through acoustical analysis, aerodynamic measures, and quantitative videostroboscopic measurements. We report on 20 patients with unilateral vocal cord paralysis who underwent thyroplasty type I. We performed preoperative and postoperative video image analysis (normalized glottal gap area) and computer-assisted voice analysis (fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, noise-to-harmonic ratio, mean phonation time, mean flow rate, mean subglottic pressure) in all patients. The glottal gap was significantly reduced after thyroplasty type I. Postoperative voice quality was characterized by an improved pitch and amplitude pertubation (jitter and shimmer), phonation time (mean phonation time), and subglottic pressure (mean subglottic pressure). On acoustic and fiberscopic studies of stop consonants, voice onset time and glottal width have been shown to be greatest in heavily aspirated stops, next greater for slightly aspirated stops, and least for unaspirated stops. Integrated activity of the thyroarytenoid and posterior cricoarytenoid muscles has been reported to be involved in differentiating aspirate characteristics of the stops. However, the fine movement of mucosal edges of vocal folds during the production of stops has not been well documented. In recent years, a new method for high-speed digital recording of laryngeal dynamics has made this possible. In the current study, the movements of vocal fold edges were documented during the period of stop production using a fiberscopic system of high-speed digital images. By observing the glottal width and the visual vibratory movements of vocal folds before voice onset, the heavily aspirated stop was characterized as being more prominent and dynamic than the slightly aspirated and unaspirated stops. 相似文献
