We consider the interaction of a polarized electromagnetic wave in a magnetically ordered crystal plate surrounded by an isotropic ambient at the normal incidence. The crystalline medium of the plate is specified by the general non-symmetric permittivity tensor. The results are expressed in terms of the transmission and reflection matrices which relate the electric fields of the incident wave to those of transmitted and reflected waves. Their applications are illustrated by examples of an isotropic plate magnetized normal to the interface, a cubic crystal magnetized parallel to the interface and an orthorhombic crystal magnetized along the axis normal to the interface. The effect of the reflection from the interfaces and the interference effect are included. The paper treats the reflection at an interface between an isotropic ambient and an absorbing magnetic crystal at small non-zero angles of incidence. The general reflection matrix is applied to the determination of the magneto-optical effects quadratic in magnetization.  相似文献

A finite-temperature Thomas-Fermi method has been used to study the nucleon flux between two hot semi-infinite slabs of nuclear matter in arbitrary relative motion. As an application, we estimate the imaginary part of the optical potential associated with nucléon transfer at the strong absorption radius. A dynamical scheme for composite quarks and leptons is proposed in which the observed fermions are Goldstone particles of spontaneously broken supersymmetry. Their residual interactions are described by a minimal effective lagrangian which invokes a non-linear realization of sypersymmetry. Possible experimental consequences are studied and it is found that the most conspicuous signature of this scheme would be a dramatic increase in the lepton pair production in hadronic collisions, particularly in pp scattering, at high energy.  相似文献

We give criteria for the Cohen-Macaulay and Gorenstein property of Rees algebras of height 2 non-singular equimultiple prime ideals in terms of explicite representations of the associated graded rings. As consequences, we show that in general, the Cohen-Macaulay resp. Gorenstein property of such Rees algebras does not imply the Cohen-Macaulay resp. Gorenstein property of the base ring and that these properties depend upon the characteristic. [reaction: see text] A novel application of photochromic molecules is to mimic physiological oscillatory calcium signals by reversibly binding and releasing calcium ions in response to light. Substituent changes on the largely unexplored photochromic bisbenzospiropyran scaffold led to significant changes in thermal fading rates in several organic solvents. Excellent correlations have been found between fading rates and empirical Hammett constants as well as calculated ground-state energies. These correlations can be used to improve scaffold design.  相似文献

Temporal speckle     
Various methods of spatial optics having been transposed into the temporal domain, it seemed of interest to extend the concept of speckle as well. Basic phenomena are described in terms of time variables and it is shown that experiments involving spectral analysis can be easily carried out leading to practical applications.
