"It takes a membrane to make sense out of disorder in biology. You have to be able to catch energy and hold it, storing precisely the needed amount and releasing it in measured shares". So wrote Lewis Thomas in The Lives of Cells. Domains and rafts are shown in the present Review to play an important role in this amazing behavior of lipid membranes. Topics touched upon include the experimental detection of domains, their composition, domain induction, properties of rafts (a special form of domain), and the relationship of rafts to human diseases. Lipids, polymers, and proteins can contribute to this type of micro- and nanostructuring within membranes, thus imposing a new structural hierarchy on top of the classical bilayer membrane. The purpose of this Review is to develop an appreciation for the multiple organizational levels in self-assembling systems.  相似文献

Four highly porous covalent organic frameworks (COFs) containing pyrene units were prepared and explored for photocatalytic H2O2 production. The experimental studies are complemented by density functional theory calculations, proving that the pyrene unit is more active for H2O2 production than the bipyridine and (diarylamino)benzene units reported previously. H2O2 decomposition experiments verified that the distribution of pyrene units over a large surface area of COFs plays an important role in catalytic performance. The Py-Py-COF though contains more pyrene units than other COFs which induces a high H2O2 decomposition due to a dense concentration of pyrene in close proximity over a limited surface area. Therefore, a two-phase reaction system (water-benzyl alcohol) was employed to inhibit H2O2 decomposition. This is the first report on applying pyrene-based COFs in a two-phase system for photocatalytic H2O2 generation.  相似文献

Herein, EuIII‐doped 3D mesoscopically ordered arrays of mesoporous and nanocrystalline titania are prepared and studied. The rare‐earth‐doped titania thin films—synthesized via evaporation‐induced self‐assembly (EISA)—are characterized by using environmental ellipsoporosimetry, electronic microscopy (i.e. high‐resolution scanning electron microscopy, HR‐SEM, and transmission electron microscopy, HR‐TEM), X‐ray diffraction, and luminescence spectroscopy. Structural characterizations show that high europium‐ion loadings can be incorporated into the titanium‐dioxide walls without destroying the mesoporous arrangement. The luminescence properties of EuIII are investigated by using steady‐state and time‐resolved spectroscopy via excitation of the EuIII ions through the titania host. Using EuIII luminescence as a probe, the europium‐ion sites can be addressed with at least two different environments within the mesoporous framework, namely, a nanocrystalline environment and a glasslike one. Emission fluctuations (5D07F2) are observed upon continuous UV excitation in the host matrix. These fluctuations are attributed to charge trapping and appear to be strongly dependent on the amount of europium and the level of crystallinity.  相似文献

Summary A method for the assay of various forms of glutathione in human plasma has been developed. The reduced form was measured after direct injection of deproteinized plasma with perchloric acid. The unbound oxidized forms were assayed in deproteinized plasma after reduction with dithiothreitol. The total amount of glutathione was determined by reduction before protein precipitation. Separation of reduced glutathione from other endogenous thiols was by ion-pair, reversed-phase, high-performance liquid chromatography. Post-column derivatization withortho-phthalaldehyde made the assay more selective than when using pyrenemaleimide as thiol fluorogenic reagent. The linear range was 0.02 to 2.0 g mL–1 with good repeatability (relative standard deviation less than 5% for the lowest concentration measured).  相似文献
