LC-MS based quantification of 2'-ribosylated nucleosides Ar(p) and Gr(p) in tRNA

RNA nucleosides are often naturally modified into complex non-canonical structures with key biological functions. Here we report LC-MS quantification of the Ar(p) and Gr(p) 2'-ribosylated nucleosides in tRNA using deuterium labelled standards, and the first detection of Gr(p) in complex fungi.     

Hexaphenylbenzene-based polymers of intrinsic microporosity

Microporous polymers derived from the 1,2- and 1,4-regioisomers of di(3',4'-dihydroxyphenyl)tetraphenylbenzene have very different properties with the former being composed predominantly of cyclic oligomers whereas the latter is of high molar mass suitable for the formation of robust solvent-cast films of high gas permeability.     

H atom adsorption and diffusion on Si(110)-(1×1) and (2×1) surfaces

We present a periodic density-functional study of hydrogen adsorption and diffusion on the Si(110)-(1×1) and (2×1) surfaces, and identify a local reconstruction that stabilizes the clean Si(110)-(1×1) by 0.51 eV. Hydrogen saturates the dangling bonds of surface Si atoms on both reconstructions and the different structures can be identified from their simulated scanning tunneling microscopy/current image tunneling spectroscopy (STM/CITS) images. Hydrogen diffusion on both reconstructions will proceed preferentially along zigzag rows, in between two adjacent rows. The mobility of the hydrogen atom is higher on the (2×1) reconstruction. Diffusion of a hydrogen vacancy on a monohydride Si(110) surface will proceed along one zigzag row and is slightly more difficult (0.2 eV and 0.6 eV on (1×1) and (2×1), respectively) than hydrogen atom diffusion on the clean surface.

Investigation of two resonances in the18O(p,n)18F reaction

Excitation functions for the¹⁸O(p,n)¹⁸F reaction were measured at bombarding energiesE _p=4.6 to 6.6 MeV. In and near two resonances of the yield curves atE _p=5.622 and 6.061 MeV, angular distributions were measured with neutron time-of-flight techniques. The strong neutron decay to theT=1 state in¹⁸F and the similarity of the¹⁸O(p,n) and¹⁸O(n,n) yield curves give good evidence that the structures in the¹⁸O(p,n) yield curve arise from the formation ofT=3/2 states in¹⁹F. A two-level-analysis does not give satisfactory fits to the strongly asymmetric angular distributions.
