Sodium Bismuthate Mediated Oxidation of Allylic and Benzylic Alcohols

A simple and readily available oxidation of primary allylic and benzylic alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes is carried out by sodium bismuthate in acetic acid.     

Synthesis of Fused Tricyclic Systems from Cycloalkadienones via Diels–Alder Reaction: Sharpless Oxidation of bis Adducts

The Diels–Alder reaction between 2,7‐cyclooctadienone and cyclopentadiene goes to completion to produce a bis adduct and mono adduct under InCl₃ conditions. 2,6‐Cycloheptadienone undergoes sequential Diels–Alder reactions in the presence of AlCl₃ with cyclohexadiene and cyclopentadiene to produce the bis adduct. The bis adducts were oxidatively cleaved to produce the [5.8.5] and [5.7.6] tricyclic systems.     

Strategies for Enhancing the Production of Penicillin G Acylase from Bacillus badius: Influence of Phenyl Acetic Acid Dosage

Bacillus badius isolated from soil has been identified as potential producer of penicillin G acylase (PGA). In the present study, batch experiments performed at optimized inoculum size, temperature, pH, and agitation yielded a maximum PGA of 9.5 U/ml in shake flask. The experiments conducted in bioreactor with different oxygen flow rates revealed that 0.66 vvm oxygen flow rate could be sufficient for the maximum PGA activity of 12.7 U/ml. From a detailed investigation on the strategies of the addition of phenyl acetic acid (PAA) for increasing the production of PGA, it was found that the controlled addition of 10 ml of 0.1 % (w/v) PAA once in every 2 h from 6th hour of growth showed the maximum PGA activity of 32 U/ml. Thus, our studies for the first time showed that at concentration above 0.1 % (w/v) PAA, the PGA production decreased. This selective condition paves the way for less costly bioprocess for the production of PGA.

Metal‐Free Triplet Phosphors with High Emission Efficiency and High Tunability

Design of highly efficient phosphorescent emitters based on metal‐ and heavy atom‐free boron compounds has been demonstrated by taking advantage of the singlet fission process. The combination of a suitable molecular scaffold and appropriate electronic nature of the substituents has been utilized to tailor the phosphorescence emission properties in solution, neat solid, and in doped PMMA thin films.     

Observation of chimera patterns in a network of symmetric chaotic finance systems

The economic and financial systems consist of many nonlinear factors that make them behave as the complex systems. Recently many chaotic finance systems have been proposed to study the complex dynamics of finance as a noticeable problem in economics. In fact, the intricate structure between financial institutions can be obtained by using a network of financial systems. Therefore, in this paper, we consider a ring network of coupled symmetric chaotic finance systems, and investigate its behavior by varying the coupling parameters. The results show that the coupling strength and range have significant effects on the behavior of the coupled systems, and various patterns such as the chimera and multi-chimera states are observed. Furthermore, changing the parameters' values, remarkably influences on the oscillators attractors. When several synchronous clusters are formed, the attractors of the synchronized oscillators are symmetric, but different from the single oscillator attractor.     

Route to hyperchaos and chimera states in a network of modified Hindmarsh-Rose neuron model with electromagnetic flux and external excitation

Analyzing the chaos and bursting phenomenon of neurons has been of interest in the past decade. In this paper, we discuss an extended Hindmarsh-Rose neuron model by taking into consideration the slowly interacting cell phenomenon due to the calcium ions. In the extended model, we consider the effect of an external forcing current, and the electromagnetic coupling between the magnetic flux and the membrane potential of the neuron. We analyze the modified neuron model in the presence of periodic and quasi-periodic excitations. A more complex chaotic behavior (hyperchaos) is identified in the neuron model. The results also demonstrate the multistable nature, which was not explored earlier. To discuss the dynamical behavior of the modified neuron in a network, we construct a ring network of neurons and capture the spatiotemporal patterns of the neuron in the network, in the presence of different excitations.

Comparison of geometry dependent resistance models with conventional models for estimation of effective thermal conductivity of two-phase materials

The geometry dependent resistance models are used to estimate the effective thermal conductivity of two-phase materials based on the unit cell approach. The algebraic equations are derived based on isotherm approach for various geometries. The effective thermal conductivity of the above models are found and compared with experimental data with a minimum and maximum deviation of ±3.976 and ±19.55%, respectively. The present models are good agreement with experimental results.
