To demonstrate the MR imaging features of liver metastases in patients with the clinical and histologic diagnosis of tumors of unknown primary tumors, a retrospective 7-year study was performed that included a total of 14 consecutive patients (7 men and 7 women; age range, 39-82 years; mean age, 60.6 years) with liver metastases from unknown primary site who had undergone MR imaging. The following lesion features were evaluated: a) number, b) diameter, c) signal intensity on T1 and T(2)-weighted images, and d) pattern of enhancement on immediate, 45 s and 90 s post gadolinium images. Lesions were classified as hypovascular, hypervascular and nearly isovascular relative to liver parenchyma as shown on immediate post gadolinium images. Patients were separated into four major groups, related to the histologic diagnosis of the lesions: (I) poorly differentiated neoplasms; (II) well-differentiated and moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma; (III) squamous cell carcinoma; (IV) combined poorly differentiated carcinoma and poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. MRI findings were correlated with histologic information obtained by chart review and confirmed by retrospective histopathology review. All patients had the histologic diagnosis of adenocarcinoma: 8 patients belonged to group II (1 patient with the subtype well-differentiated and 7 patients with the subtype moderately differentiated) and 6 patients to group IV. Eleven patients (79%) presented with multiple lesions distributed throughout both hepatic lobes; 3 patients exhibited solitary lesions. All solitary metastases possessed a diameter equal or larger than 5 cm. Patients with multiple metastases demonstrated a wide range of diameter, ranging from less than 1.5 cm to more than 5 cm. Regarding lesion vascularity, 4 of 13 of the patients had hypovascular metastases and 9 of 13 of the patients had hypervascular lesions. One patient demonstrated both types of lesions. Five of six patients with the histopathologic diagnosis of poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma demonstrated hypervascular metastases. Solitary metastases were most often hypovascular (2 of 3); however no correlation with the histologic subtype was possible. Liver metastases from unknown primary site are often multiple and often hypervascular. Poorly differentiated tumors are the most common histologic type. Metastases are not uncommonly hypovascular, and these are often solitary.  相似文献

We present a highly selective and sensitive method for the determination of cysteine (Cys) and related aminothiols that play important roles in health and disease. The key step in the analysis is treatment with 1,1′-thiocarbonyldiimidazole (TCDI) that rapidly and quantitatively reacts with both the amino and thiol groups to form stable cyclic dithiocarbamates with intense UV absorption. Cys, homocysteine (hCys), and cysteinylglycine in plasma (75 μl), urine (100 μl), or cerebrospinal fluid (100–500 μl) were determined by separating and measuring their cyclic derivatives by a high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) connected to a UV detector. The chromatograms obtained using TCDI contained fewer and better-resolved peaks than those produced by less selective reagents used previously. Using chemically similar 2-methylcysteine as the internal standard, high repeatability (variation of less than 5%) and adequate sensitivity to detect small increments (10–20%) in the concentrations of cysteinylglycine and hCys were achieved. The HPLC method can also be modified to measure -penicillamine (greater than 0.8 μM) in plasma (50 μl) providing a potential method to monitor plasma levels of this drug in patients.  相似文献

We study the steady state resulting from instabilities in crystals driven through a dissipative medium, for instance, a colloidal crystal which is steadily sedimenting through a viscous fluid. The problem involves two coupled fields, the density and the tilt; the latter describes the orientation of the mass tensor with respect to the driving field. We map the problem to a one-dimensional lattice model with two coupled species of spins evolving through conserved dynamics. In the steady state of this model each of the two species shows macroscopic phase separation. This phase separation is robust and survives at all temperatures or noise levels- hence the term strong phase separation. This sort of phase separation can be understood in terms of barriers to remixing which grow with system size and result in a logarithmically slow approach to the steady state. In a particular symmetric limit, it is shown that the condition of detailed balance holds with a Hamiltonian which has infinite-ranged interactions, even though the initial model has only local dynamics. The long-ranged character of the interactions is responsible for phase separation, and for the fact that it persists at all temperatures. Possible experimental tests of the phenomenon are discussed.  相似文献

This paper reports the dielectric and impedance characteristics of ferroelectric SrBi2Nb2O9 (SBN) ceramics in the 100 Hz-1 MHz frequency range at various temperatures (300-823 K). A strong low frequency dielectric dispersion (LFDD) associated with an impedance relaxation has been found to exist in these ceramics in the temperature range 573-823 K. The Z″ of the AC complex impedance showed two distinct slopes in the frequency range 100 Hz-1 MHz suggesting the existence of two dispersion mechanisms. This non-ideal behavior has been explained on the basis of the expression, Z*=R0/(1+(/ω1)m+(/ω2)n) [J. Phys. Chem. Solids 53 (1992) 1] where ω1 and ω2 characterize the lattice response and the charge carrier behavior, respectively. The exponents m and n were obtained from the curve fitting. The exponent n was found to exhibit a minimum at the Curie temperature, Tc (723 K) whereas the m was temperature independent.  相似文献

The electrospray ionisation-ion trap mass spectrometry (ESI-MSn) of selected hypnotic drugs, i.e. zopiclone, zolpidem, flunitrazepam and their metabolites have been investigated. Sequential product ion fragmentation experiments (MSn) have been performed in order to elucidate the degradation pathways for the [M+H]+ ions and their predominant fragment ions. These MSn experiments show certain characteristic fragmentations in that functional groups are generally cleaved from the ring systems as neutral molecules such as H2O, CO, CO2, NO2, amines and HF. When an aromatic entity is present in a drug molecule together with a nitrogen-containing saturated ring structure as with zopiclone and its N-desmethyl metabolite fragmentation initially occurs at the latter ring with the former being resistant to fragmentation. The structures of fragment ions proposed for ESI-MSn can be supported by electrospray ionisation-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (ESI-QTOF-MS).These molecules can be identified and determined in mixtures at low ng/ml concentrations by the application of liquid chromatography (LC)-ESI-MSn which can be used for their analysis in saliva samples.This paper includes a tabulation of mass losses/signals at low m/z values for these hypnotic drugs and many others in recent publications which will be of value in the characterisation of drug metabolites of unknown structure and also natural product pharmaceuticals isolated from plants, etc.  相似文献

Optically pumped NMR (OPNMR) of direct gap and indirect gap semiconductors has been an area of active research interest, motivated by both basic science and technological perspectives. Proposals to enhance and to spatially localize nuclear polarization have stimulated interest in this area. Recent progress in OPNMR has focused on exploring the experimental parameter space in order to elucidate details of the underlying photophysics of optical pumping phenomena. The focus of this review is on recent studies of bulk samples of GaAs and InP, namely, the photon energy dependence, the magnetic field dependence, and the phase dependence of OPNMR resonances. Bimetallic Co–Ni catalysts in the composition range Co(1?x)Nix with x?=?0.0, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0, with total metal loading of 15% w/w and supported on TiO2-P25, have been prepared by chemical reduction of the metal acetates by glucose in aqueous alkaline medium and characterized by XRD, TEM, TPR, XPS and H2-TPD techniques. Selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldhyde (CAL) to hydrocinnamaldehyde (HCAL), cinnamyl alcohol (COL) and hydrocinnamyl alcohol (HCOL) has been investigated at 20 bar pressure, in the temperature range 120–140 °C. Co/Ni crystallite sizes in the range 6.0?±?1 nm are observed by TEM. TPR and XPS results indicate the formation of nanoscale Co–Ni alloys, which tend to weaken M–H bond strength, as revealed by H2-TPD measurements. Ni/TiO2 displays very high conversion of CAL (86.9%) with high selectivity (78.7%) towards HCAL formation at 140 °C. Co/TiO2, on the other hand, exhibits relatively lower CAL conversion (55%) and higher selectivity (61.3%) for COL formation at the same temperature. However, bi-metallic Co–Ni catalysts in the composition range x?=?0.3–0.6 display very high conversion (>?98%) due to alloy formation and weakening of M–H bonds. Bimetallic Co0.7Ni0.3 catalyst displays high conversion of CAL (98.1%) and high selectivity (82.9%) towards HCOL. Overall CAL hydrogenation activity at 140 °C, when expressed as TOF, displays a maximum value at the composition Co0.5Ni0.5. Activity and selectivity patterns have been rationalized based on the reaction pathways observed on the catalysts and the influence of Co–Ni alloy formation and M–H bond strength. Thus, a synergetic effect, originating from an appropriate composition of base metal catalysts and reaction conditions, could result in hydrogenation activity comparable with noble metal based catalysts.  相似文献
