Synthesis and Cytotoxic Activity of Novel Pyrazoline Derivatives against Human Lung Tumor Cell Line (A549)

In the present investigation, a series of 5‐(‐4‐(substituted)phenyl)‐3‐(4‐hydroxy‐3‐methylphenyl)‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐1‐pyrazolyl‐2‐toluidino methane thione and 5‐(substituted)phenyl‐3‐(4‐hydroxy‐3‐methylphenyl)‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐1‐pyrazolyl‐2‐methoxy anilino methane thiones were synthesized and were examined against human lung tumor cell line (A549) in vitro using the MTT assay system. Among those tested, 5‐(4‐flurophenyl)‐3‐(4‐hydroxy‐3‐methylphenyl)‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐1‐pyrazolyl‐2‐toluidino methane thione & 5‐(4‐chlorophenyl)‐3‐(4‐hydroxy‐3‐methylphenyl)‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐1‐pyrazolyl‐2‐methoxy anilino methane thione showed more potent cytotoxicity against human lung tumor cell line (A549) than the other synthesized compounds.     

Molecular mass determination of polyamic acid ionic salt by size-exclusion chromatography

A methodology was developed for the determination of molecular weight aveages of polyamic acid ionic salt (PAS) by size-exclusion chromatography (SEC). Polystyrene standards were used for calibration and THF-DMF 1:1 by volume containing 0.06 M LiBr and 0.06 M H3PO4 was used as the mobile phase. The proposed methodology was found to be reproducible.     

Modeling and simulation of the CLS cryogenic system

This paper presents results pertaining to the numerical modeling of the cryogenic system at the Canadian Light Source. The cryogenic system consists of a cryostat that houses a Radio Frequency (RF) cavity used for boosting the energy of an electron beam. For consistent operation of the RF cavity, it must be kept immersed in liquid helium at a constant level with the pressure in the gas space maintained to an accuracy of ±1 mbar. An improvement to the cryostat model suggested in [3] using control volumes is described. The model and numerical method developed for the liquid helium supply and gaseous helium return lines are validated using two different cases, viz., the liquid helium flow rate from the liquid helium transfer line and the gaseous helium flow rate from the cryostat for various heater power input settings. The numerical method described here is significantly more accurate, efficient, and flexible than that used in [1] based on an iterative bisection method.     

Comparative Enrichment Capabilities of Some Carbonaceous and Macroreticular Resins Using Selected Radioactive Model Compounds in Fortified Aqueous Samples

Abstract

The concentration efficiency of synthetic macroreticular resins, XAD-2 and XAD-7 and carbonaceous resins, XE-340, XE-347 and XE-348 was evaluated and compared using trace levels of eight radioactive model environmental contaminants present in aqueous medium. Influences of chemical functionalities of the solvents, physical characteristics of the sorbents, and pH of the aqueous medium on sorption of the model compounds were investigated under frontal dynamic chromatographic conditions. The elution behavior of these sorbates and desorption properties of the polymer adsorbents with respect to solvents of different polarities were studied.

Efficient and Practical Synthesis of Dissymmetrical Ethers of 4-Nitrocatechol

An efficient and practical synthesis of dissymmetrical ethers of 4-nitrocatechol from 5-nitrosalicyladehyde and 2-hydroxy-5-nitroacetophenone via Baeyer–Villiger oxidation is described. These dissymmetrical ethers are useful in the synthesis of various coccidiostats and other important pharmaceutical intermediates.
