Synthesis and study of internally complex compounds of o-methoxythiophenol with metals

Conclusion Internally complex compounds of o-methoxythiophenol with a number of divalent metals have been obtained and some of their properties have been studied. Some problems of nonequilibrium copolycondensation

The influence of the reactivity of the starting compounds and reaction conditions on the formation of the macromolecules of copolymers has been investigated for a nonequilibrium copolycondensation in solution by acceptor-catalytic polyesterification. In the nonequilibrium copolycondensation in solution, copolymers with different distributions of units may be formed, depending on various factors. Introduction of all amounts of acid chloride (intermonomer) in the beginning of the nonequilibrium copolycondensation leads to the formation of copolymers with statistical distribution of the units independent of the difference in reactivity of the comonomers used. For synthesis of copolymers with a block structure by one-stage nonequilibrium polycondensation in solution the initial comonomers must have different reactivities (r ≠ 1) and the rate of intermonomer introduction must be lower than that of its reaction with the more reactive comonomer. On varying the above factors, block copolymers with different lengths of block segments may be obtained.

Intermolecular interactions in the system of equilibrium catalytic transesterification of esters 2. Reaction of boron and arsenic butoxides with alcohols based on IR spectroscopic data

The reaction of alcohols ROH (R=Me, n-Bu, n-C₇H₁₅) with B(OBu)₃ and As(OBu)₃ in binary mixtures and in solutions in CCl₄ was investigated by IR spectroscopy. B(OBu)₃ forms equilibrium associates of two types with n-BuOH. Only one type of H bond is observed in a dilute solution of n-BuOH in As(_OBu)₃, but the donor sites in As(_OBu)₃ (As or O atoms) which participate in its formation were not established. The equilibrium constants of the reaction of exchange of butoxyl radicals in X(OBu)₃ (X=B, As) with MeOH and n-C₇H₁₅OH were measured and at 20°C were, respectively, equal to 0.11 and 0.06 for B_{OBu 3} and 0.67 and 0.44 for As_{OBu 3}.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 2, pp. 377–381, February, 1991.     

Sensitivity of GLS estimators in random effects models

This paper studies the sensitivity of random effects estimators in the one-way error component regression model. Maddala and Mount (1973) [6] give simulation evidence that in random effects models the properties of the feasible GLS estimator are not affected by the choice of the first-step estimator used for the covariance matrix. Taylor (1980) [8] gives a theoretical example of this effect. This paper provides a reason for this in terms of sensitivity. The properties of are transferred via an uncorrelated (and independent under normality) link, called sensitivity. The sensitivity statistic counteracts the improvement in . A Monte Carlo experiment illustrates the theoretical findings.     

Coatings and surfactants based on oligovinylsiloxanes

Silicate glass and cotton fabric are hydrophobized via treatment of their surface by vinyltriethoxysilane and oligovinylsiloxane. The data of electron microscopy for chemical analysis and the values of contact angles suggest that the hydrophobicity of the surface layer develops via the polymerization of vinyl groups. The arrangement of vinyl groups in neighboring units in oligovinylsiloxane is favorable for formation of a more uniform solid coating with enhanced hydrophobicity. The use of oligovinylsiloxane and its derivatives with amino and carboxyl groups as surfactants in the heterophase polymerization of styrene makes it possible to obtain stable suspensions with a narrow particle size distribution.
