Polymeric materials with grafted luminescent organosiloxane coatings

A procedure was developed for preparing polymeric materials with grafted luminescence organosiloxane coatings containing conjugates of rare-earth elements with various color spectra.     

Sensor properties of hybrid SnO2-polysilazane materials

New hybrid materials based on nanocrystalline tin dioxide and two types of surface-immobilized polymer organosilicon structures with hydrocarbon substitutes were synthesized for gas sensors application. The sensing responses of pure SnO₂ and hybrid samples were determined in the presence of NO₂ (ppb range), CO (ppm range) and different humidity (RH = 15 – 95 %). Also the influence of water presence on sensor signal towards NO₂ and CO was analyzed. Strong influence of nature of hydrocarbon substitutes on sensor response value towards NO₂ and H₂O was discovered.     

Synthesis of new alkoxysilyl-substituted carboranes

New 1,7-bis(trialkoxysilylpropyl)-m-carboranedicarboxamides were synthesized by the reaction of 3-aminopropyltrialkoxysilanes with either m-carboranedicarboxylic acid chloride in the presence of Et₃N or m-carboranedicarboxylic acid in the presence of N,N´-carbonyl-diimidazole. The synthesized compounds are colorless liquids soluble in benzene, toluene, tetrahydrofuran, diethyl ether, and chloroform and insoluble in water. Structures of the synthesized compounds were established by IR and NMR spectroscopy and confirmed by elemental analysis. The synthesized compounds are interesting starting materials for produc-tion of heat-resistant silicon carborane polymers and metal-carborane-silicon polymers.     

Photochromic fulgimide-containing silicones immobilized on the surface of polyarylate

Photochromic coatings immobilized on the surface of polyarylate films are prepared on the basis of fulgimides, oligosiloxanes, and oligosilazanes. The irradiation of coatings with UV light at a wavelength of @380 nm and visible light at a wavelength above 500 nm results in photoinduced reversible transitions between open and colored cyclic forms. Photochromic polymer films with the most acceptable characteristics are obtained from fulgimide-containing oligoaminosiloxane and oligovinyldimethylsilazane. It is found that the photosensitivity of these films is higher than that of similar films based on 1,2-dihetarylethenes.
