Mutual coupling of elements in finite microstrip antennas

The mutual coupling of the radiating elements in microstrip antennas is studied using a rigorous electrodynamic approach in which the field singularities at the radiator edges are taken into account with analytic accuracy. A spectral method is employed in combination with a method of semi-inversion by extraction of the Green-function singularity. The degree of interaction of the elements of microstrip structures at the fundamental and higher current harmonicsis determined, and the applicability of various approximations is assessed.Radio-Astronomy Institute, Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Infrared ellipsometry study of the oxidation mechanisms of hydrogenated amorphous silicon

A detailed study of the oxidation of plasma deposited amorphous silicon (a-Si : H) using infrared phase modulated ellipsometry (IRPME) is presented. a-Si : H is found to be resistant against air oxidation confirming previous measurements. A 5–6 Å thick oxide layer at the surface of a-Si : H is observed after a few months of exposure to air. The extreme sensitivity of IRPME is emphasized. In particular Si-O-Si and (O_n)Si-H stretching vibrations are identified at the film surface at the submonolayer level. The oxidation mechanisms are discussed. The weak reactivity of a-Si : H with atmosphere is correlated with the presence of a hydrogen rich thin layer at the top surface.     

Calculated elastic constants of dilute alloys based on bcc metals

The elastic constants of dilute alloys based on bcc metals have been calculated using the Green’s function method obtaining explicit expressions for change in elastic constants in terms oft-matrix. The crystal impurity problem is discussed within an impurity model containing central and non-central force constant changes extended up to second neighbours of the impurity. The effect of volume change on elastic constants and a contribution from electron pressure term are considered. Numerical results for changes in three elastic moduli have been presented for a number of dilute alloys based on Mo, Nb, W, Ta and V.     

Cylindrical solitons in a Gödel Universe and their stability

Exact cylindrically symmetric solutions are obtained for a class of interacting scalar and vector fields in a rotating Godel Universe. We select those with the properties of solitons with smooth decrease of the fields to asymptotics and those with sharp boundaries (droplets). It is shown that only some of the droplets are stable with respect to perturbations that preserve cylindrical symmetry.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 5, pp. 24–27, May, 1991.     

Passivation of an Al acceptor in silicon by hydrogen or muonium

We report on calculations of the electric field gradient at the site of the Al nucleus in the Si-H-Al complex in silicon. As a model for the surroundings of the complex we used a cluster consisting of 43 silicon and one aluminum atoms. The geometry of this cluster was fully optimized at the Hartree-Fock level. To discuss the dependence of our results on the level of theory, we studied a subcluster of four silicon and one aluminum atoms at the Hartree-Fock and CASSCF level.     

An estimate of the decomposition stability of the Poisson distribution into identical components

An estimate of the decomposition stability of the Poisson distribution is obtained under the condition that the components are identical. The estimate is much sharper than that in the general case. Measurements of the perpendicular width of ionization-produceddouble layers

Measurements of the perpendicular (to B) double-layer widths of ionization-produced (anode) double layers are presented. These widths were determined from measurements of the double-layer charge separations. The variations of the transverse-to-B widths with plasma density and magnetic field strength are given
