Introducing reflection anisotropy spectroscopy (RAS) as a new probe for solid-liquid interfaces, we present results for the Au(110)/electrolyte interface which serves as a model system. We demonstrate that RAS is sensitive to surface phase transitions, step morphology, and electronic surface states. Using an empirical approach, the RA spectra are reproduced and features are identified which reflect the known character of the bias voltage driven (2x1) to (1x1) phase transition. RAS is established as an experimental technique to probe the electronic structure of solid-liquid interfaces in real time to study a wide range of interface properties. 相似文献

The importance of energy filtering in PEEM-based imaging methods has been shown in recent years with the availability of powerful instruments. A new instrument, the NanoESCA, combines a fully electrostatic PEEM column and an aberration corrected double hemispherical analyser as energy filter. This paper reports on recently demonstrated XPEEM results using the first commercially available NanoESCA instrument operated with both synchrotron soft X-rays and monochromatic laboratory Al Kα radiation. The implementation of elemental and bonding-state specific imaging is shown with both excitation sources. The presently achieved (but not yet ultimate) lateral resolutions on energy filtered core-level images are 150 nm with a large synchrotron spot and below 1 μm with a focused laboratory source. Restrictions on the size and proximity of clearcuts have led to the development of a variety of exact and heuristic methods to optimize the net present value of timber harvests, subject to adjacency constraints. Most treat harvest units as pre-defined, and impose adjacency constraints on any two units sharing a common border. By using graph theory notation to define sub-graph adjacency constraints, opening size can be considered variable, which may be more appropriate for landscape-level planning. It is important to develop methods of optimizing the selection of column sets and operating conditions for comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography. A new method for the calculation of the percentage of separation space used was developed using Delaunay's triangulation algorithms (convex hull). This approach was compared with an existing method and showed better precision and accuracy. This paper reports a study of the backscattering behavior of a solid layer containing randomly spaced spherical cavities in the long wavelength limit. The motivation for the work arises from a need to model the responses of porous composite materials in ultrasonic NDE procedures. A comparison is made between models based on a summation over discrete scatterers, which show interesting emergent properties, and an integral formulation based on an ensemble average, and with a simple slab effective medium approximation. The similarities and differences between these three models are demonstrated. A simple quantitative criterion is established which sets the maximum frequency at which ensemble average or equivalent homogeneous medium models can represent echo signal generation in a porous layer for given interpore spacing, or equivalently, given pore size and concentration. 相似文献

Various [5,6]pyrano[2,3‐c]pyrazol‐4(1H)‐thiones were synthesized in high yields by treatment of the corresponding [5,6]pyrano[2,3‐c]pyrazol‐4(1H)‐ones with Lawesson's reagent. Detailed NMR spectroscopic studies were undertaken of the title compounds. Complete and unambiguous assignment of chemical shifts (1H, 13C, 15N) and coupling constants (1H,1H; 13C,1H) was achieved by the combined application of various one‐ and two‐dimensional (1D and 2D) NMR spectroscopic techniques. Polyelectrolytes functionalized with photoisomerizable azobenzene chromophores were multi-layered onto inorganic and metal surfaces, by the repeated adsorption from dilute aqueous solution, alternating between oppositely charged polymers. These layer-by-layer ionically self-assembled thin films were investigated for their suitability as sensor host materials with respect to the criteria of control over physical layer properties, versatility to different substrates and adsorption geometries, and stability of the formed layers to heat, solvent, and sonication. Layer thickness was found to be controllable between 5 A and 500 nm by varying the total number of layers deposited, from a single monolayer to 1000 layers. Control over individual layer thickness was achieved by varying the pH of the adsorption solutions. This multi-layer self-assembly was demonstrated to be suitable for a wide range of metal and inorganic substrates, and achievable with surfaces of high curvature (r = 50 nm), and confined geometry. The deposited layers exhibited good stability to desorption in a range of organic solvents, aqueous temperatures to 100 degrees C, and cleaning protocols such as sonication. The laser-induced geometric isomerization of the azobenzene chromophores was shown to be strongly dependent on aqueous solution properties, demonstrating an application as a hydroxide ion sensor in highly alkaline media. 相似文献
