The studies of sorption of six metal ions (Cd2+, Cu2+, Pb2+, Zn2+, Ni2+, Cr3+ and Cr(VI)) from by-products of agriculture are taken into account. The Langmuir qmax values obtained with the use of different biomasses are evaluated and, in order to acquire comparable results, the necessity of using molar concentrations is stressed. The main effects of pH on sorption are estimated by considering both the behaviour of metal ions (hydrolysis and hydroxide precipitation) and the effect of pH on coordination, using a simulated example. Some considerations are made on the information that can be obtained using the most common isotherms and on the need to use chemical dimensions rather than weight in order to make comparison among various metal ions (since atomic weight differences deeply alter the significance of parameters in non-chemical units) and to predict the effects of competition between two (or more) of these for the same sorbent sites on the biomass surface.  相似文献

The cyclic lipopeptide Daptomycin, used as a treatment for infections where antimicrobial resistance is observed, is shown to self‐assemble into spherical micelles above a critical aggregation concentration. In this paper, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of the portfolio diversification ratio based on Value-at-Risk (quantile) under dependence uncertainty, which we refer to as “worst-case diversification limit”. We show that the worst-case diversification limit is equal to the upper limit of the worst-case diversification ratio under mild conditions on the portfolio marginal distributions. In the case of regularly varying margins, we provide explicit values for the worst-case diversification limit. Under the framework of dependence uncertainty the worst-case diversification limit is significantly higher compared to classic results obtained in the literature of multivariate regularly varying distributions. The results carried out in this paper bring together extreme value theory and dependence uncertainty, two popular topics in the recent study of risk aggregation.  相似文献

Diastereoisomeric D,L-N-Cbz-imino glycal-derived allyl epoxides 5 and 6 have been synthesized, and their addition reactions with alcohols examined. The reactions lead to the corresponding 2,3-unsaturated-aza-O-glycosides through a new, completely regioselective 1,4-addition process which proceeds with complete substrate-dependent stereoselectivity.  相似文献

Dicationic ligands incorporating two 2,2'-bipyridine units and two imidazolium moieties, [1](2+) and [2](2+), form stable chelate complexes with Cu(II) and Cu(I) in acetonitrile solution. Each Cu(II) complex binds two X(-) ions according to two stepwise equilibria, the first involving the Cu(II) centre and the second involving the bis-imidazolium compartment. Cu(I) complexes are able to host only one NO(3)(-) ion in the bis-imidazolium cavity, while other anions induce demetallation. Thus, in the presence of one equivalent of NO(3)(-), the Cu(II)/Cu(I) redox change makes the anion translocate quickly and reversibly from one binding site to the other within the [Cu(II,I)(1)](4+/3+) system, as demonstrated by cyclic voltammetry and controlled-potential electrolysis experiments.  相似文献

This paper investigates dendritic peptides capable of assembling into nanostructured gels, and explores the effect on self-assembly of mixing different molecular building blocks. Thermal measurements, small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy are used to probe these materials on macroscopic, nanoscopic and molecular length scales. The results from these investigations demonstrate that in this case, systems with different "size" and "chirality" factors can self-organise, whilst systems with different "shape" factors cannot. The "size" and "chirality" factors are directly connected with the molecular information programmed into the dendritic peptides, whilst the shape factor depends on the group linking these peptides together--this is consistent with molecular recognition hydrogen bond pathways between the peptidic building blocks controlling the ability of these systems to self-recognise. These results demonstrate that mixtures of relatively complex peptides, with only subtle differences on the molecular scale, can self-organise into nanoscale structures, an important step in the spontaneous assembly of ordered systems from complex mixtures.  相似文献

2,5-diketopiperazines (DKPs) are cyclic dipeptides ubiquitously found in nature. In particular, cyclo(Phe-Pro), cyclo(Leu-Pro), and cyclo(Val-Pro) are frequently detected in many microbial cultures. Each of these DKPs has four possible stereoisomers due to the presence of two chirality centers. However, absolute configurations of natural DKPs are often ambiguous due to the lack of a simple, sensitive, and reproducible method for stereochemical assignment. This is an important problem because stereochemistry is a key determinant of biological activity. Here, we report a synthetic DKP library containing all stereoisomers of cyclo(Phe-Pro), cyclo(Leu-Pro), and cyclo(Val-Pro). The library was subjected to spectroscopic characterization using mass spectrometry, NMR, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD). It turned out that ECD can clearly differentiate DKP stereoisomers. Thus, our ECD dataset can serve as a reference for unambiguous stereochemical assignment of cyclo(Phe-Pro), cyclo(Leu-Pro), and cyclo(Val-Pro) samples from natural sources. The DKP library was also subjected to a biological screening using assays for E. coli growth and biofilm formation, which revealed distinct biological effects of cyclo(D-Phe-L-Pro).  相似文献

Quorum-sensing (QS) is a regulatory mechanism in bacterial communication, important for pathogenesis control. The search for small molecules active as quorum-sensing inhibitors (QSI) that can synergize with antibiotics is considered a good strategy to counteract the problem of antibiotic resistance. Here the antimicrobial labdane diterpenoids sclareol (1) and manool (2) extracted from Salvia tingitana were considered as potential QSI against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Only sclareol showed synergistic activity with clindamycin. The quantification of these compounds by LC–MS analysis in the organs and in the calli of S. tingitana showed that sclareol is most abundant in the flower spikes and is produced by calli, while manool is the major labdane of the roots, and is abundant also in the leaves. Other metabolites of the roots were abietane diterpenoids, common in Salvia species, and pentacyclic triterpenoids, bearing a γ-lactone moiety, previously undescribed in Salvia. Docking simulations suggested that 1 and 2 bind to key residues, involved in direct interactions with DNA. They may prevent accessory gene regulator A (AgrA) binding to DNA or AgrA activation upon phosphorylation, to suppress virulence factor expression. The antimicrobial activity of these two compounds probably achieves preventing upregulation of the accessory gene regulator (agr)-regulated genes.  相似文献

Stars and black holes are sources of gravitational radiation in many phases of their life, and the signals they emit exhibit features that are characteristic of the generating process. Emitted since the beginning of star formation, these signals also contribute to create a stochastic background of gravitational waves. We shall show how the spectral properties of this background can be estimated in terms of the energy spectrum of each single event and of the star formation rate history, which is now deducible from astronomical observations. We shall further discuss the process of scattering of masses by stars and black holes, showing that, unlike black holes, stars emit signals that carry a clear signature of the nature of the source.  相似文献
