Photoexcited semiconductor nanoparticles undergo charge equilibration when they are in contact with metal nanoparticles. Such a charge distribution has direct influence in dictating the energetics of the composite by shifting the Fermi level to more negative potentials. The transfer of electrons to Au nanoparticles has now been probed by exciting TiO(2) nanoparticles under steady-state and laser pulse excitation. Equilibration with the C(60)/C(60)(-) redox couple provides a means to determine the apparent Fermi level of the TiO(2)-Au composite system. The size-dependent shift in the apparent Fermi level of the TiO(2)-Au composite (20 mV for 8-nm diameter and 40 mV for 5-nm and 60 mV for 3-nm gold nanoparticles) shows the ability of Au nanoparticles to influence the energetics by improving the photoinduced charge separation. Isolation of individual charge-transfer steps from UV-excited TiO(2) --> Au --> C(60) has provided mechanistic and kinetic information on the role of metal in semiconductor-assisted photocatalysis and size-dependent catalytic activity of metal-semiconductor nanocomposites.  相似文献

Over the years numerous papers have presented the effectiveness of various machine learning methods in analyzing drug discovery biological screening data. The predictive performance of models developed using these methods has traditionally been evaluated by assessing performance of the developed models against a portion of the data randomly selected for holdout. It has been our experience that such assessments, while widely practiced, result in an optimistic assessment. This paper describes the development of a series of ensemble-based decision tree models, shares our experience at various stages in the model development process, and presents the impact of such models when they are applied to vendor offerings and the forecasted compounds are acquired and screened in the relevant assays. We have seen that well developed models can significantly increase the hit-rates observed in HTS campaigns.  相似文献

We report two fluorophores with open coordination sites for specific sensing of Ni(2+) and Cu(2+) ions via a simple synthetic route. The fluorescence activity was completely quenched on coordination of the metal ions with the phenanthroline ring present in the fluorophore as is clearly evident from the photophysical studies.  相似文献

By using bifunctional surface modifiers (SH-R-COOH), CdSe quantum dots (QDs) have been assembled onto mesoscopic TiO(2) films. Upon visible light excitation, CdSe QDs inject electrons into TiO(2) nanocrystallites. Femtosecond transient absorption as well as emission quenching experiments confirm the injection from the excited state of CdSe QDs into TiO(2) nanoparticles. Electron transfer from the thermally relaxed s-state occurs over a wide range of rate constant values between 7.3 x 10(9) and 1.95 x 10(11) s(-1). The injected charge carriers in a CdSe-modified TiO(2) film can be collected at a conducting electrode to generate a photocurrent. The TiO(2)-CdSe composite, when employed as a photoanode in a photoelectrochemical cell, exhibits a photon-to-charge carrier generation efficiency of 12%. Significant loss of electrons occurs due to scattering as well as charge recombination at TiO(2)/CdSe interfaces and internal TiO(2) grain boundaries.  相似文献

This paper concerns the electrochemical growth of compound semiconductor thin film superlattice structures using electrochemical atomic layer deposition (ALD). Electrochemical ALD is the electrochemical analogue of atomic layer epitaxy (ALE) and ALD, methods based on nanofilm formation an atomic layer at a time, using surface-limited reactions. Underpotential deposition (UPD) is a type of electrochemical surfaced-limited reaction used in the present studies for the formation of PbSe/PbTe superlattices via electrochemical ALD. PbSe/PbTe thin-film superlattices with modulation wavelengths (periods) of 4.2 and 7.0 nm are reported here. These films were characterized using electron probe microanalysis, X- ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and infrared reflection absorption measurements. The 4.2 nm period superlattice was grown after deposition of 10 PbSe cycles, as a prelayer, resulting in an overall composition of PbSe0.52Te0.48. The 7.0 nm period superlattice was grown after deposition of 100 PbTe cycle prelayer, resulting for an overall composition of PbSe0.44Te0.56. The primary Bragg diffraction peak position, 2theta, for the 4.2 superlattice was consistent with the average (111) angles for PbSe and PbTe. First-order satellite peaks, as well as a second, were observed, indicating a high-quality superlattice film. For the 7.0 nm superlattice, Bragg peaks for both the (200) and (111) planes of the PbSe/PbTe superlattice were observed, with satellite peaks shifted 1 degrees closer to the (111), consistent with the larger period of the superlattice. AFM suggested conformal superlattice growth on the Au on glass substrate. Band gaps for the 4.2 and 7.0 nm period superlattices were measured as 0.48 and 0.38 eV, respectively.  相似文献

Lightweight conductive polymers are considered for lightning strike mitigation in composites by synthesizing intrinsically conductive polymers (ICPs) and by the inclusion of conductive fillers in insulating matrices. Conductive films based on polyaniline (PANI) and graphene have been developed to improve through‐thickness conductivity of polymer composites. The result shows that the conductivity of PANI enhanced by blending polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and PANI in 3:1 ratio. Conductive composite thin films are prepared by dispersing graphene in PANI. The conductivity of composite films was found to increase by 40× at 20 wt% of graphene inclusion compared with PVP and PANI blend. Fourier‐transform‐infrared (FTIR) spectra confirmed in situ polymerization of the polymer blend. The inclusion of graphene also exhibits an increase in Tg by 21°C. Graphene additions also showed an increase in thermal stability by approximately 148°C in the composite films. The mechanical result obtained from DMA shows that inclusion of graphene increases the tensile strength by 48% at 20 wt% of graphene reinforcement. A thin, highly conductive surface that is compatible with a composite resin system can enhance the surface conductivity of composites, improving its lightning strike mitigation capabilities.  相似文献

Heparin is a highly sulfated, complex polysaccharide and widely used anticoagulant pharmaceutical. In this work, we chemoenzymatically synthesized perdeuteroheparin from biosynthetically enriched heparosan precursor obtained from microbial culture in deuterated medium. Chemical de‐N‐acetylation, chemical N‐sulfation, enzymatic epimerization, and enzymatic sulfation with recombinant heparin biosynthetic enzymes afforded perdeuteroheparin comparable to pharmaceutical heparin. A series of applications for heavy heparin and its heavy biosynthetic intermediates are demonstrated, including generation of stable isotope labeled disaccharide standards, development of a non‐radioactive NMR assay for glucuronosyl‐C5‐epimerase, and background‐free quantification of in vivo half‐life following administration to rabbits. We anticipate that this approach can be extended to produce other isotope‐enriched glycosaminoglycans.  相似文献

Carbon dioxide catalyzes the reaction of imidazolides with amines to form amides. A substantial rate enhancement is observed in the presence of CO(2) compared to the CO(2)-free case. The scope and limitations of this reaction are discussed.  相似文献
