Native Point Defects and Nonstoichiometry in GaAs (I). Homogeneity Region of Gallium Arsenide

Homogeneity region and the concentration of dominant native point defects along its boundary are calculated by the method of quasichemical reactions with the use of experimental data on the structure type of solid solutions formed by the components in GaAs. The entropy and enthalpy of the formation of dominant native point defects in GaAs are obtained. Temperature ranges of the formation of microdefects-finely dispersed Ga and As precipitates are considered.

Explosive plasma-vortex optical radiation sources

The results of experimental study of explosive radiation sources based on pulsed injection of a cumulative plasma jet into atmospheric air are considered. The injection process is accompanied with intense vortex formation as well as the formation of a large-scale toroidal plasma vortex. High-power electromagnetic radiation in the optical range is generated due to shock-wave processes during deceleration of a plasma jet in air and plasma-chemical processes in the vortex. The temporal structure of a radiation pulse being generated contains components from the micro- and millisecond range. For a 20-g mass of the explosive charge, a peak radiation power of 300 kW/sr and an energy yield of 400–600 J/sr integrated over the emission spectrum are attained. The efficiency of conversion of the chemical energy of the explosive into radiation is 5.0–7.5%.     

Light propagation in 1D photonic crystals with dissipation

Light propagation in one-dimensional (1D) photonic crystals with dissipation (including metal layers) is studied analytically. The proper effective refractive indices and extinctions of dissipative layers in case of oblique incidence are introduced. Then, the formalism available for nondissipative photonic crystals is modified by replacing the conventional refractive indices with effective ones. Propagation in a bilayer dielectric-metallic crystal is computed as an example.     

The Influence of Solvents on the Alkylation of Carboxylate Phosphabetaines with Alkyl Iodides

The new alkylation reactions of a series of mono- and dicarboxylate phosphabetaines with methyl and ethyl iodides in different solvents have been studied. These reactions have afforded stable compounds: iodine-containing salts of phosphonium with different structure.
