Use of the two-moment boundary condition in the problem of rarefied gas slip over a solid cylindrical surface

The slip velocity of a rarefied gas nonuniform in temperature and mass velocity is calculated for gas slip over the surface of a right circular cylinder. The calculation uses the two-moment boundary condition in an approximation linear in Knudsen number. Corrections to the slip velocity that are due to the interface curvature, volume temperature stresses, and nonuniform temperature distribution in the Knudsen layer are studied as func-tions of the accommodation coefficients in the first two moments of the distribution function. The Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook model of the Boltzmann kinetic equation is employed as the basic equation for the gas state.     

Linear Independence of q-Analogues of Certain Classical Constants

Let K be ? or an imaginary quadratic number field, and q ∈ K an integer with ¦q¦ > 1. We give a quantitative version of Σ_n≥1 a_n/(qⁿ ? 1) ? K for non-zero periodic sequences (a_n) in K of period length ≤ 2. As a corollary, we get a quantitative version of the linear independence over K of 1, the q-harmonic series, and a q-analogue of log 2. Magnetic-Zenith Effect

We develop a theory of the magnetic-zenith effect (MZE) observed upon the ionosphere modification by powerful radio waves. The dependences of MZE on main parameters, such as the magnetic-field inclination angle, pump-wave frequency and power, and angular width of HF beam are obtained. Nuclear superstructure {1/2, 0, 1/2} of an La<Subscript>0.93</Subscript>Sr<Subscript>0.07</Subscript>MnO<Subscript>3</Subscript> manganite orthorhombic crystal

The {1/2, 0, 1/2} nuclear superstructure in an La_0.93Sr_0.07MnO₃ manganite orthorhombic crystal is revealed using thermal-neutron diffraction. It is demonstrated that this superlattice belongs to the class of distortion-type structures and is directly associated with a 1/16-type ordering of Mn⁴⁺ and Mn³⁺ ions in a collinear ferromagnetic phase of the La_0.93Sr_0.07MnO₃ manganite.     

Effect of Ultrasonic Treatment on Pearlite Structure and Properties

The influence of ultrasonic shock treatment on variation in the pearlite structure and properties is studied in the surface layer of carburized steel. It is shown that plastic deformation results in carbon redistribution and formation of new phases.     

Growth of 1-Periodic Graphs

A new class of graphs is introduced: 1-periodic graphs. A problem on the form of the growth of these graphs is stated. For certain classes of graphs, a self-similar growth in the form of a polygon is proved. Certain general conjectures on the form of the growth are stated. Bibliography: 1 title.     

The role of As2O3 on the stability and some physical properties of PbO-Sb2O3 glasses

PbO-Sb₂O₃ glasses added with different concentrations of As₂O₃ (10-55 mol%) were prepared to understand their IR spectra, elastic properties (Young's modulus E, Shear modulus G, microhardness H), optical absorption and dielectric properties (constant ε, loss tan δ, ac conductivity σ_ac over a moderately wide range of frequency and temperature and breakdown strength in air medium at room temperature). Results have indicated that the structure of the PbO-Sb₂O₃-As₂O₃ glass is more rigid when the concentration of As₂O₃ is around 40 mol%.     

Effect of superfluidity on the structure of the inner crust of neutron stars

A self-consistent, completely quantum calculation of the structure of the inner crust of neutron stars is carried out in the Wigner-Seitz approximation with a realistic phenomenological nuclear energy functional, where pair correlations of neutrons and protons are included in the explicit form. It has been shown that the superfluidity of neutrons and protons affects the structure of the ground state of the crust.
