Synthesis and Structural Studies of Aluminum Dialkylamines and Dialkylamides: N‐Chirality of (CH3)3AlNHRR′ and cis‐trans ‐Isomerism at X2AlNRR′ (X = CH3, Cl, H) Aluminum dialkylamines and dialkylamides were prepared from Al(CH3)3 and NH(CH3)R′ (R′: –C2H5, –tC4H9) and characterized by elemental analyses, 1H‐, 13C‐, and 27Al‐NMR spectroscopy. Problems of pattern recognition in chemistry and other subjects can be divided conveniently into four different types depending on the level of scope of the problem.(1) Classification into one of a number of defined classes. As an example blood samples taken from persons known to be either controls or welders are considered. The problem is whether trace element concentrations in these samples contain information on whether or not a person is a welder.(2) Level 1 plus the possibility that an object is an outlier, i.e. does not belong to any of the defined classes. As an example, the üse of 13C-n.m.r. data to decide whether 2-substituted norbornanes have the exo or endo structure is discussed. (2A) Level 2, asymmetric. This situation occurs when one class does not have a systematic structure, but another class is homogeneous and can be described by a level 2 model. This occurs in the classification of materials or compounds as good or bad, active or inactive, and in binary classifications. As an example the use of trace element data to classify steel samples as having good or poor properties of strength is discussed.(3) Level 2 plus the ability to relate the variables measured to external properties of continuous character. As an example, the classification of a series of chemical compounds as β -receptor blockers, β -receptor stimulants, or neither, on the basis of their structural variables is discussed. In addition, relations between these structural variables and the measured biological activity are sought within each of the two classes.(4) Level 3 with the difference that several external property variables in the objects are measured. An absolute coulometric method based on the titration of hydrolysed penicillins with coulometrically generated mercury(II) is presented. An amalgamated gold plate is used as anode and the titration is performed in a pH 4.6 acetate buffer solution. The method gives values which deviate by less than 1% from values obtained by other absolute methods. The relative standard deviation for determination of penicillin G is 0.4%. 2-Vinylindole ( 1a ) and its donor- and acceptor-substituted (E)-derivatives 1b – e react highly locoselectively with dimethyl 1,2,4,5-tetrazine-3,6-dicarboxylate ( 3 ) to form the novel (indol-2-yl)-1,4-dihydropyridazines 4a and 7 as well as the heterocyclic annellated pyridazines 4b , 5 , and 6 . The reactions of the structurally related 3-vinylindoles 2a – e with 3 also gave rise to new indol-3-ylpyridazines 8 , 9 , and 10 . The reaction of ReCl5 and fuming sulfuric acid (25 % SO3) in a sealed glass tube at 200 °C led to red, needle shaped single crystals of Re2O4Cl4(SO4) (monoclinic, C2/c, a = 1501.8(2) pm, b = 1545.9(2) pm, c = 945.18(8) pm, β = 98.761(9)°, Z = 8). In the crystal structure the [ReO2] moieties are linked by [SO4]2– tetrahedra to chains along the [101] direction.
