We studied the evolution of oil-in-oil (O/O) and water-in-oil (W/O) phospholipid-coated micro-droplets at an oil/water interface. We found that, in both cases, micro-droplets spontaneously transferred from the oil phase to the water phase. O/O micro-droplets transformed into oil-in-water micro-droplets, while W/O micro-droplets led to the formation of liposomes.  相似文献

This article describes an elastic silicone sheet with reversible tuning structural color. The sheet has a thin layer of cubic close-packed, ccp, colloidal particles embedded in poly(dimethylsiloxane), PDMS, elastomer. The array of ccp (111) planes diffracts light of selective wavelengths according to Bragg's law. This is responsible for the structural color of the PDMS sheet. Because the sheet was stretched in the horizontal direction, it was reduced in size in the vertical direction. As a result, the lattice distance of ccp (111) planes decreased, and the reflected wavelength of light shifted to shorter wavelengths. For example, the peak of reflection was tuned from 589 to 563 nm as a function of sheet elongation. The peak position decreased linearly with deformation when the deformation was within 20% of its elongation. Accordingly, the color of the PDMS sheet changed from red to green. When the mechanical strain on the PDMS sheet was released, the peak returned to its original position, and the color of the PDMS sheet also changed back to red. Tuning the color of the PDMS sheet is a reversible and repeatable process. The novel PDMS sheet has the potential to be applied to mechanical strain sensing.  相似文献

Three-dimensional (3D) centimeter-sized colloidal crystals can be spontaneously formed simply by dropping a NaOH solution (10 mM, approximately 10 microL) into an aqueous dispersion of dilute charged colloidal silica (particle diameter 110 nm, particle volume fraction phi = 0.023, 3-4 mL). The charge number of the silica particle increases with pH. Upon adding the NaOH solution, first, sub-millimeter-sized polycrystals are formed in the upper part of the sample due to charge-induced crystallization. The local phi value in the crystal region becomes nonuniform. The crystals with a high phi value accumulate at the bottom of the cell and then grow upward as columnar crystals. The crystal widths increase discontinuously with the growth, and in some cases, 3D centimeter-sized crystals are formed. The centimeter-sized crystals are also obtainable by the controlled diffusion of the base from its dilute reservoir. The present findings may prove valuable in the fabrication of large 3D single-crystalline photonic materials.  相似文献

Covalent fixation of a chiral helical structure which is created in a self-assembling system by a chiral-amplification method based on the sergeants/soldiers principle is reported. Disk-shaped triazine triamides self-assembled to form columnar-type helical aggregates through pi-stacking interactions among the central triphenyltriazine moieties, hydrogen-bonding interactions among the amide groups, and van der Waals interactions among the alkyl groups in nonpolar solvents such as hexane, octane, toluene, and p-xylene. When the achiral triazine triamide soldier component is mixed with a tiny amount of the chiral triazine triamide sergeant component, control of the intrinsic supramolecular helicity of the self-assembled soldier component by the sergeant component leads to chiral amplification and formation of a pseudoenantiomeric aggregate with only one handedness of the helix. The helicity can be preserved by ring-closing olefin metathesis polymerization mediated by Grubbs catalyst when an achiral component with terminal olefinic groups forms the pseudoenantiomeric aggregate in the presence of a tiny amount of the chiral component without olefinic groups. After polymerization and removal of the chiral component, the polymeric architecture obtained from the achiral soldier component is optically active and thus can be regarded as an enantiomeric object in which the chiral information transferred from the chiral sergeant component is preserved. The nanoscale chiral structure is fixed perfectly, as indicated by CD spectroscopic evidence obtained in a polar THF medium at high temperature and low concentration. AFM and TEM observations show a nanoscale fibrous structure with a diameter of 2-4 nm, which corresponds to the molecular size of the triazine triamide monomer.  相似文献

We present a new scenario for the breakdown of ferromagnetic order in a two-dimensional quantum magnet with competing ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions. In this, dynamical effects lead to the formation of two-magnon bound states, which undergo Bose-Einstein condensation, giving rise to bond-centered nematic order. This scenario is explored in some detail for an extended Heisenberg model on a square lattice. In particular, we present numerical evidence confirming the existence of a state with d-wave nematic correlations but no long-range magnetic order, lying between the saturated ferromagnetic and collinear antiferromagnetic phases of the ferromagnetic model J1-J2. We argue by continuity of spectra that this phase is also present in a model with 4-spin cyclic exchange.  相似文献

A novel scheme to achieve broadband cascaded third-harmonic generation by use of two-dimensional quasi-phase-matching gratings is proposed. Intrinsic group-velocity mismatch is compensated by the pulse front tilt in noncollinear interaction geometry. The presented scheme enables broadband third-harmonic generation in a single device of long interaction length, which reduces the operation intensity dramatically.  相似文献

This paper proposes a mechanical measurement technique of the planar elongation viscosity of the low-viscosity liquids. A newly designed flow cell, which consists of a cylindrical cup and a disk-shaped bob with a knife-edged rim, generates the planar elongation flow. Three kinds of Newtonian fluids and an M1 fluid are used. A strain control rheometer pushed the bob into the cup filled with the test fluid and measured the resistant force. The planar elongation viscosity was evaluated using the following two assumptions: first, the resistant force is regarded as the sum of the buoyancy and the resultant forces caused by pressure drops in the planar elongation flow and the shear flow in the test section. Second, the hydraulic mean depth is used as a representative length. The relative errors of the Trouton ratio of the Newtonian fluids were less than 20% compared to the theoretical value of 4.

Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a rare disorder of unknown etiology in which terminal portions of the internal carotid arteries become steno-occlusive, with fine collateral "moyamoya vessels" formed secondarily, resulting in serial ischemic strokes throughout its clinical course. Whole-brain histogram (WBH) of diffusion tensor imaging (WBH-DTI) is an analytical tool whose feasibility has been ascertained in various pathologies. To elucidate whether WBH-DTI could detect any difference between ischemic MMD and normal controls, we examined 27 consecutive MMD patients without hemorrhage and 48 normal controls in this prospective study using a 3.0-T magnetic resonance scanner. WBHs of fractional anisotropy (FA) (WBH-FA) and mean diffusivity (MD) (WBH-MD) were compared among three groups: Group 1, MMD patients with infarct (n=15); Group 2, MMD patients without infarct (n=12); and Group 3, normal controls (n=48). Group 1 showed significantly higher peak height and significantly lower mean value on WBH-FA, as well as significantly lower peak height and significantly higher mean value on WBH-MD, compared with Groups 2 and 3. No significant difference was seen in parameters at either WBH-FA or WBH-MD between Groups 2 and 3. These results might reflect the pathological severity of each group, and WBH-DTI could feasibly detect differences between ischemic MMD with infarction and MMD without infarction and normal controls.  相似文献

A series of coin-type lithium secondary batteries with polyaniline positive electrodes was developed and commercialized which might be not only the first practical polymer battery but also the first industrial application of conducting polymers. Performances of the commercialized batteries were described in detail in this paper. In order to achieve the development the most important thing was the optimization of molecular structure and molphology of multiguise polyaniline as the electrode material. According to the findings obtained during the development, polyaniline sheet was prepared substantially to be composed of imino-1,4-phenylene (IP) and the cation radical of IP (IP+) by the novel procedure, not to include quinoid configuration of polyaniline (NP) which was proved to be electrochemically inactive in non-aqueous systems.  相似文献

The constitution of the nonadecapeptide Ro 09–0198 ( 1 ) has been established by homonuclear two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy. The peptide contains three sulfide bridges and a bridge formed from the side chain of a lysine residue (lysinoalanine moiety). Only the composition was known before, thus the complete sequencing and the elucidation of the bridges had to be performed. Of special importance was the application of the RELAYED-NOESY experiment. This technique was improved by the introduction of a double-quantum filter to reduce the tailing around the diagonal. The resulting sequence of 1 exhibits a surprizing analogy of this immunopotentiating peptide to the ACE inhibitor ancovenin.  相似文献
