Pinning modes and interlayer correlation in high-magnetic-field bilayer Wigner solids

We report studies of pinning mode resonances in the low total Landau filling (nu) Wigner solid of a series of bilayer hole samples with negligible interlayer tunneling and with varying interlayer separation d. Comparison of states with equal layer densities (p,p) to single layer states (p,0) produced in situ by biasing, indicates that there is interlayer quantum correlation in the solid at small d. Also, the resonance frequency at small d is decreased just near nu = 1/2 and 2/3, indicating the importance in the solid of correlations related to those in the fractional quantum Hall effects.     

Electrical detection of hepatitis C virus RNA on single wall carbon nanotube-field effect transistors

We report the unambiguous detection of a sequence of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) at concentrations down to the fractional pM range using Single Wall Carbon Nanotube (SWNT) Field Effect Transistor (FET) devices functionalized with Peptide Nucleic Acid (PNA).     

A heterogeneous boundedly rational expectation model for housing market

This research aims to test the housing price dynamics when considering heterogeneous boundedly rational expectations such as naive expectation, adaptive expectation and biased belief. The housing market is investigated as an evolutionary system with heterogeneous and competing expectations. The results show that the dynamics of the expected housing price varies substantially when heterogeneous expectations are considered together with some other endogenous factors. Simulation results explain some stylized phenomena such as equilibrium or oscillation, convergence or divergence, and over-shooting or under-shooting. Furthermore, the results suggest that variation of the proportion of groups of agents is basically dependent on the selected strategies. It also indicates that control policies should be chosen carefully in consistence with a unique real estate market during a unique period since certain parameter portfolio may increase or suppress oscillation.     

High-spin structure of yrast-band in 78Kr

Lifetime of levels up to 22⁺, have been measured in ⁷⁸Kr and an oblate shape is assigned to the ground state using the CSM and the configuration dependent shell correction calculations. Calculations further show that ⁷⁸Kr is highly γ-soft nucleus. The experimental Q _t values coupled with theoretical calculations indicate an oblate shape for ⁷⁸Kr at low spins and triaxial shape at higher spins     

Effect of C60 molecular rotation on nanotribology

The effect of C60 molecular rotation on the nanotribological properties of C60 single crystal surfaces has been studied by atomic/frictional force microscopy. The orientational order-disorder phase transition, in which the high temperature C60 free rotation is reduced to a low temperature hindered rotation, is shown to give rise to an abrupt change in friction and adhesion. This change in frictional force is quantitatively consistent with the observed change in adhesion. The similar slopes of the friction versus load curves in both phases indicate that the friction coefficient in the two phases remains about the same. Hence the C60 rotation does not provide an additional energy dissipation channel in the friction process.
