CdSe/CdS/ZnS nanorods (NRs) of three aspect ratios were coated with phytochelatin-related peptides and studied using fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS). Theoretical predictions of the NRs' rotational diffusion contribution to the correlation curves were experimentally confirmed. We monitored rotational and translational diffusion of NRs and extracted hydrodynamic radii from the extracted diffusion constants. Translational and rotational diffusion constants (D(trans) and D(rot)) for NRs were in good agreement with Tirado and Garcia de la Torre's as well as with Broersma's theories when accounting for the ligand dimensions. NRs fall in the size range where rotational diffusion can be monitored with higher sensitivity than translational diffusion due to a steeper length dependence, D(rot) approximately L(-)(3) versus D(trans) approximately L(-)(1). By titrating peptide-coated NRs with bovine serum albumin, we monitored (nonspecific) binding through rotational diffusion and showed that D(rot) is an advantageous observable for monitoring binding. Monitoring rotational diffusion of bioconjugated NRs using FCS might prove to be useful for observing binding and conformational dynamics in biological systems.  相似文献

We demonstrate on-chip hybrid integration of chalcogenide glass waveguides and quantum cascade lasers (QCLs). Integration is achieved using an additive solution-casting and molding method to directly form As(2)S(3) strip waveguides on an existing QCL chip. Integrated As(2)S(3) strip waveguides constructed in this manner display strong optical confinement and guiding around 90° bends, with a NA of 0.24 and bend loss of 12.9dB at a 1mm radius (λ=4.8μm).  相似文献

Inhibitors of Apoptosis Proteins (IAPs) are conserved E3-ligases that ubiquitylate substrates to prevent apoptosis and activate the NF-kB survival pathway, often deregulated in cancer. IAPs-mediated regulation of NF-kB signaling is based on the formation of protein complexes by their type-I BIR domains. The XIAP-BIR1 domain dimerizes to bind two TAB1 monomers, leading to downstream NF-kB activation. Thus, impairment of XIAP-BIR1 dimerization could represent a novel strategy to hamper cell survival in cancer. To this aim, we previously reported NF023 as a potential inhibitor of XIAP-BIR1 dimerization. Here we present a thorough analysis of NF023 binding to XIAP-BIR1 through biochemical, biophysical and structural data. The results obtained indicate that XIAP-BIR1 dimerization interface is involved in NF023 binding, and that NF023 overall symmetry and the chemical features of its central moiety are essential for an efficient interaction with the protein. Such strategy provides original hints for the development of novel BIR1-specific compounds as pro-apoptotic agents.  相似文献

The composition and structure of inorganic shells grown over CdSe semiconductor nanocrystal dots and rods were optimized to yield enhanced photoluminescence properties after ligand exchange followed by coating with phytochelatin-related peptides. We show that, in addition to the peptides imparting superior colloidal properties and providing biofunctionality in a single-step reaction, the improved shells and pretreatment with UV irradiation resulted in high quantum yields for the nanocrystals in water. Moreover, peptide coating caused a noticeable red-shift in the absorption and emission spectra for one of the tested shells, suggesting that exciton-molecular orbital (X-MO) coupling might take place in these hybrid inorganic-organic composite materials.  相似文献

The Brooks-Yu theory is applied to the calculation of the temperature dependence of the energy band gaps in some II–VI compounds. The theory is applied in the framework of the empirical pseudo-potential method, and utilizes a recent lattice dynamical calculation of the Debye-Waller factors. The temperature dependence of several critical-point band gaps are determined and compared with a vailable experimental data. In general, reasonable agreement is obtained. The interesting case of HgTe, which exhibits an anomalous positive temperature coefficient of the fundamental band gap, is also discussed.  相似文献
