As-grown and heat-treated vapour grown carbon fibres (VGCF) in the as-prepared state, washed in HCl/H(2)O, and treated in O(2) plasma for different periods have been investigated by means of XPS and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The surface energy of the carbon fibres before and after plasma treatment was determined from the wetting contact angle. Washing introduced hydroxyl, carbonyl and carboxyl groups onto the fibre surfaces and oxygen plasma treatment increases the total atomic concentration of oxygen up to 17%. This is in good agreement with the value of the polar component of the surface energy. Plasma treatment also enhanced the fibre surface porosity (by etching). 相似文献

We extend the plasmon hybridization method to investigate the plasmon modes of metallic nanoshell dimers. The formalism is also generalized to include the effects of dielectric backgrounds. It is shown that the presence of dielectrics shifts the plasmon resonances of the individual nanoparticles to lower energies and screens their interaction in the dimer configuration. The net result is a redshift of dimer energies compared to the system without dielectrics and a weaker dependence of the dimer plasmon energies on dimer separation. We calculate the plasmon energies and optical absorption of nanoshell dimers as a function of dimer separation. The results are in excellent agreement with the results of finite difference time domain simulations. 相似文献

As computer controlled instruments for surface analysis are in common use for many years, the problem of exchangeability
of analytical data has attracted interest in the surface analysis community. More and more examples for the development of
standarized data formats as the VAMAS format [1] and the Standard for Chromatography Data Communication from the AIA [2] have
been published. There are a few attempts to establish standardized “data dictionaries” e.g. the parameter lists describing
AES and XPS spectra pusblished in Surface Science Spectra [3, 4]. If several different analysis methods (such as AES, SAM,
XPS, SIMS, STM, AFM, EPMA, …) are applied to the same sample, a quite independent and open approach is needed to be able to
combine data of various instruments in a common data evaluation procedure. It could be the basic concept of real mutli-method
analysis. The public domain software package MAXMIND has been developed, as only a standardized data exchange and storage
format based on data dictionaries can guarantee a high level of independence of proprietary measurement systems.

Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) multilayers of ferric arachidate on silicon wafers have been investigated by means of conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy (CEMS) and absorption Mössbauer spectroscopy (AMS) at different temperatures between 4.2 K and room temperature. At low temperatures we observe antiferromagnetic ordering in the two-dimensional model substance and determined the magnitude and the orientation of the internal magnetic field. We studied the phase transition and found with increasing temperature a slow decrease of the ordered phase, which has completely vanished at 130 K. In the present state it cannot be decided if we just observe superparamagnetic relaxation or if we observe additional effects arising from the low dimensionality of the system. Comparable measurements on small iron arachidate LB-particles have been performed but no significant difference between the films and the small particles can be observed. Using the plasmon hybridization method we investigate the plasmon modes of nanorod dimers in axial and parallel orientations.
We show that the plasmon modes of the system can be viewed as bonding and anti-bonding modes resulting from the hybridization
of the plasmon modes of the individual nanorods. The dimer plasmon modes are found to depend sensitively on separation between
the nanorods and on their relative spatial orientation. The calculated optical properties agree quantitatively with results
from the numerical finite-difference time-domain method. The electric field enhancements are found to depend strongly on aspect
ratio defined as the ratio of the major and minor radii, and on the relative orientation of the nanorods. For a nanorod dimer
of fixed overall length, the maximum field enhancements are lower than those induced in a solid sphere dimer. 相似文献

Constant strain rate molecular dynamics simulations of nanocrystalline Al demonstrate that a significant amount of dislocations that have nucleated at the grain boundaries, exhibit cross-slip via the Fleischer mechanism as they propagate through the grain. The grain boundary structure is found to strongly influence when and where cross-slip occurs, allowing the dislocation to avoid local stress concentrations that otherwise can act as strong pinning sites for dislocation propagation. 相似文献

We present the results of a search in pp collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV for anomalous production of events containing a photon and a lepton (e or mu), both with large transverse energy, using 86 pb(-1) of data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab during the 1994-1995 collider run at the Fermilab Tevatron. The presence of large missing transverse energy (E(T)), additional photons, or additional leptons in these events is also analyzed. The results are consistent with standard model expectations, with the possible exception of photon-lepton events with large E(T), for which the observed total is 16 events and the expected mean total is 7.6+/-0.7 events. 相似文献

We report the results of a search for a W' boson produced in pp; collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.8 TeV using a 106 pb(-1) data sample recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We observe no significant excess of events above background for a W' boson decaying to a top and bottom quark pair. In a model where this boson would mediate interactions involving a massive right-handed neutrino (nu(R)) and have standard model strength couplings, we use these data to exclude a W' boson with mass between 225 and 536 GeV/c(2) at 95% confidence level for M(W')>M(nu(R)) and between 225 and 566 GeV/c(2) at 95% confidence level for M(W')相似文献
