The coupling of an electron monochromator (EM) to a mass spectrometer (MS) has created a new analytical technique, EM-MS, for the investigation of electrophilic compounds. This method provides a powerful tool for molecular identification of compounds contained in complex matrices, such as environmental samples. In particular, EM-MS has been applied to the detection of nitrated aromatic compounds, many of which are potent mutagens and/or carcinogens and are considered environmental hazards. EM-MS expands the application and selectivity of traditional MS through the inclusion of a new dimension in the space of molecular characteristics-the electron resonance energy spectrum. EM-MS also enhances detection sensitivity as well because the entire electron flux of the proper energy can be delivered into the negative ion resonance that is analytically most useful to solving the problem at hand. However, before this tool can realize its full potential, it will be necessary to create a library of resonance energy scans from standards of the molecules for which EM-MS offers a practical means of detection. Unfortunately, the number of such standards is very large and not all of the compounds are commercially available, making this library difficult to construct. Here, an approach supplementing direct measurement with chemical inference and quantum scattering theory is presented to demonstrate the feasibility of directly calculating resonance energy spectra. This approach makes use of the symmetry of the transition-matrix element of the captured electron to discriminate between the spectra of isomers. As a way of validating this approach, the resonance values for 25 nitrated aromatic compounds were measured along with their relative abundance. Subsequently, the spectra for the isomers of nitrotoluene were shown to be consistent with the symmetry-based model. The initial success of this treatment suggests that it might be possible to predict negative ion resonances and thus create a library of EM-MS standards.  相似文献

A new Wells–Dawson sandwich polyoxometalate, -[(NaOH2)2(CuII)2 (P2W15O56)2]18− (2P), has been obtained in good yield by the dissolution of solid -Na12[P2W15O56]·18H2O in an aqueous solution of Cu(II) and L-glutamic acid at pH 10. The arsenic analogue, -[(NaOH2)2(CuII)2(As2W15O56)2]18− (2As), is likewise prepared by using Na12[As2W15O56]·21H2O instead of Na12[P2W15O56]·18H2O. Diffraction quality crystals of both 2P and 2As were obtained by slow evaporation in air over several days. The X-ray structures of 2P and 2As reveal that two Cu(II) atoms are sandwiched between two -[P2W15O56]12− or two -[As2W15O56]12− ligands, respectively, while the other two positions of the central belt unit are occupied by two Na+ cations. Higher yields of 2As can be obtained by mixing CuCl2·2H2O and [Na12As2W15O56]·21H2O in acetate buffer. The electrochemistry of 2P and 2As is characterized by cyclic voltammograms in which the reduction of the Cu(II) centers is close to the redox pattern of the W-centers. The two Cu(II)-centers are simultaneously reduced to Cu(0); the separate steps could not be resolved for the individual Cu(II) centers. Complexes 2P and 2As constitute the second example, after -[(NaOH2)2(FeIII)2(P2W15O56)2]16− (1P) and -[(NaOH2)2(FeIII)2(As2W15O56)2]16− (1As), of a transition-metal-substituted sandwich polyoxometalate containing two electroactive d-electron metals.Dedicated in honor of Professor Michael T. The Rh(I)-catalyzed [3 + 2] cycloaddition of cyclopropenones and alkynes is found to provide a highly efficient and regiocontrolled route to cyclopentadienones (CPDs), building blocks of widespread use in the synthesis of natural and non-natural products, therapeutic leads, polymers, dendrimers, devices, and antigen presenting scaffolds. The versatility of the method is explored with 23 examples representing a wide range of alkyne variations (arylalkyl-, dialkyl-, heteroarylalkyl-) and diaryl- as well as arylalkylcyclopropenones. The reactions often proceed in high yield using minimal catalyst loadings and in all cases examined proceed with high or complete regioselectivity. The reaction is readily scalable to produce gram quantities of cycloadduct and provides a unique and versatile route to CPDs that would be otherwise difficult to obtain.  相似文献

As part of our studies of metal-catalyzed [m + n (+...o)] cycloadditions, we have previously reported the rhodium-catalyzed [5 + 2] cycloaddition of vinylcyclopropanes (VCPs) and pi-systems. These studies have led to Rh(I) complexes that catalyze these reactions in minutes at room temperature or in water without organic solvents. We describe a comparative evaluation of several chiral catalysts for the [5 + 2] reaction, evaluation of a preferred catalyst, [((R)-BINAP)Rh]+SbF6-, with substrates differing in substitution and tether types-producing enantiomeric excesses >/=95% for several systems. A predictive model for the selectivity is also presented.  相似文献

The resolution attainable with stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscopy greatly depends on the quality of the STED laser focus. So far, visual inspection of a measured STED focus has been the only convenient means of gauging the source of aberrations. Here we describe a method, requiring no instrument modifications, for obtaining an equivalent to the complex pupil function at the back aperture of the objective and show that it provides quantitative information about aberration sources (including aberrations induced by the objective or sample). We show the accuracy of this field representation to be sufficient for reconstructing the STED focus in three dimensions and determining corrective steps.  相似文献

Capillary electrophoresis (CE) holds great promise as an in situ analytical technique for a variety of applications. However, typical instrumentation operates with open reservoirs (e.g., vials) to accommodate reagents and samples, which is problematic for automated instruments designed for space or underwater applications that may be operated in various orientations. Microgravity conditions add an additional challenge due to the unpredictable position of the headspace (air layer above the liquid) in any two-phase reservoir. One potential solution for these applications is to use a headspace-free, flow-through reservoir design that is sealed and connected to the necessary reagents and samples. Here, we demonstrate a flow-through high-voltage (HV) reservoir for CE that is compatible with automated in situ exploration needs, and which can be electrically isolated from its source fluidics (in order to prevent unwanted leakage current). We also demonstrate how the overall system can be rationally designed based on the operational parameters for CE to prevent electrolysis products generated at the electrode from entering the capillary and interfering with the CE separation. A reservoir was demonstrated with a 19 mm long, 1.8 mm inner diameter channel connecting the separation capillary and the HV electrode. Tests of these reservoirs integrated into a CE system show reproducible CE system operation with a variety of background electrolytes at voltages up to 25 kV. Rotation of the reservoirs, and the system, showed that their performance was independent of the direction of the gravity vector.  相似文献

A simple method for accessing trans-2,3-diaryl dihydrobenzofurans is reported. This approach leverages the equilibrium between quinone methide dimers and their persistent radicals. This equilibrium is disrupted by phenols that yield comparatively transient phenoxyl radicals, leading to cross-coupling between the persistent and transient radicals. The resultant quinone methides with pendant phenols rapidly cyclize to form dihydrobenzofurans (DHBs). This putative biomimetic access to dihydrobenzofurans provides superb functional group tolerance and a unified approach for the synthesis of resveratrol-based natural products.  相似文献
