Ni(COD)(DQ): An Air‐Stable 18‐Electron Nickel(0)–Olefin Precatalyst

We report that Ni(COD)(DQ) (COD=1,5‐cyclooctadiene, DQ=duroquinone), an air‐stable 18‐electron complex originally described by Schrauzer in 1962, is a competent precatalyst for a variety of nickel‐catalyzed synthetic methods from the literature. Due to its apparent stability, use of Ni(COD)(DQ) as a precatalyst allows reactions to be conveniently performed without use of an inert‐atmosphere glovebox, as demonstrated across several case studies.     

SERS spectroscopy and SERS imaging of Shewanella oneidensis using silver nanoparticles and nanowires

Facile and reproducible SERS signals from Shewanella oneidensis were obtained utilizing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and silver nanowires (AgNWs). Additionally, SERS images identify the distribution of SERS hot-spots. One important observation is the synergistically enhanced SERS signal when AgNPs and AgNWs are used in conjunction, due to constructively enhanced electromagnetic field.     

Fast determination of the tin content in cassiterite ores by photon activation method

Photon activation analysis has been success-fully applied to the fast and non-destructive analysis of tin in cassiterite ores based on the 159.7 keV gamma line of^123mSn produced in the¹²⁴Sn/γ, n/^123mSn reaction. In order to improve the accuracy of analytical results, corrections for self-absorption and pile-up effects were performed. Under typical conditions /15 μA electron beam current, 15 MeV bremsstrahlung energy, 5 min irradiation time and 10 min measurement/ the sensitivity of the analysis is 10 ppm. The proposed method can be used for routine analysis of tin in geological samples.     

Nucleophilic additions to fused bicyclic five-membered ring oxocarbenium ions: evidence for preferential attack on the inside face

Evidence is provided that nucleophilic attack on five-membered ring oxocarbenium ions occurs from the inside face of the envelope. An eight-five fused-bicyclic system in which two substituents are constrained to pseudoequatorial positions underwent nucleophilic addition with selectivity that was comparable to an unconstrained monocyclic system. On the other hand, a bicyclic six-five analogue underwent reaction with low selectivity. This observation indicates that minimization of eclipsing interactions by attacking inside the envelope is not enough to control selectivity, but that the changes in the overall three-dimensional structure of the ring must be favorable as well. In the bicyclic six-five series, the six-membered ring is accommodated in the cation, but it destabilizes the transition state structure leading to the first-formed product of inside attack.     

A four coordinate parent imide via a titanium nitridyl

Treatment of d(1) [(nacnac)TiCl(Ntol(2))] with NaN(3) results in NaCl formation and N(2) ejection to yield the first four coordinate, parent imide [(nacnac)Ti=NH(Ntol(2))] (nacnac(-)=[ArNC(CH(3))](2)CH, Ar = 2,6-iPr(2)C(6)H(3), tol = 4-CH(3)C(6)H(4)).     

From Enantiopure Hydroxyaldehydes to Complex Heterocyclic Scaffolds: Development of Domino Petasis/Diels–Alder and Cross‐Metathesis/Michael Addition Reactions

One‐step assembly of hexahydroisoindole scaffolds by a sequence that combines the Petasis (borono‐Mannich) and Diels–Alder reactions is described. The unique selectivity observed experimentally was confirmed by quantum calculations. The current method is applicable to a broad range of substrates, including free sugars, and holds significant potential to efficiently and stereoselectively build new heterocyclic structures. This easy and fast entry to functionalized polycyclic compounds can be pursued by further transformations, for example, additional ring closure by a cross‐metathesis/Michael addition domino sequence.     

Synthesis and molecular structure of substituted 2-hydroxyperhydro-[1,3,2]dioxaborinino[5,4-<Emphasis Type="Italic">c</Emphasis>]pyridines,perhydro[1,3]dioxano[5,4-<Emphasis Type="Italic">c</Emphasis>]pyridine,and their precursor-4-hydroxy-3-(α-hydroxybenzyl)-1-methyl-4-phenylpiperidine

4,8a-Diphenyl-substituted 2-(2-propoxy)perhydro[1,3,2]dioxaborinino[5.4-c]pyridine was obtained by the condensation of 4-hydroxy-3-(α-hydroxybenzyl)-1-methyl-4-phenylpiperidine with triisopropyl borate, and its 2-hydroxysubstituted analog in the presence of water. 1-Methyl-4,8a-diphenyl-perhidro[1,3]dioxano[5,4-c]pyridine was synthesized by the reaction of the same piperidol with formaldehyde. A comparative study of the molecular structures of the three products was carried out by X-ray crystallography. Statistical inference for Vasicek-type model driven by Hermite processes

Let $Z$ denote a Hermite process of order $q\ge 1$ and self-similarity parameter $H\in (\frac{1}{2},1)$. This process is $H$-self-similar, has stationary increments and exhibits long-range dependence. When $q=1$, it corresponds to the fractional Brownian motion, whereas it is not Gaussian as soon as $q?2$. In this paper, we deal with a Vasicek-type model driven by $Z$, of the form $d{X}_t=a(b?X_t)dt+d{Z}_t$. Here, $a>0$ and $b\in \mathbb{R}$ are considered as unknown drift parameters. We provide estimators for $a$ and $b$ based on continuous-time observations. For all possible values of $H$ and $q$, we prove strong consistency and we analyze the asymptotic fluctuations.
