The reaction of 1-silylcyclopropyl anions with dichloromethyl methyl ether: the efficient synthesis of cyclopropyl silyl ketones via cyclopropylidene derivatives

The reaction of 1-silylcyclopropyl anions with dichloromethyl methyl ether is described. The reaction with an excess amount of dichloromethyl methyl ether gives the corresponding cyclopropyl silyl ketones in low yields. On the other hand, the reaction under basic conditions proceeded smoothly to afford the corresponding cyclopropylidene derivatives, exclusively. The resulting cyclopropylidene compounds are subjected to hydrolysis or trapping with electrophiles easily to give the cyclopropyl silyl ketone derivatives in good yields.     

Development and photo-responsive peptide bond cleavage reaction of two-photon near-infrared excitation-responsive peptide

Two-photon near-infrared excitation-responsive amino acid was developed. It was incorporated into a peptide, and focused near-infrared pulsed laser irradiation-induced peptide bond cleavage reaction at the C-terminal position of the photo-responsive amino acid was observed.     

First Synthesis of Continuous Mesoporous Copper Films with Uniformly Sized Pores by Electrochemical Soft Templating

Although mesoporous metals have been synthesized by electrochemical methods, the possible compositions have been limited to noble metals (e.g., palladium, platinum, gold) and their alloys. Herein we describe the first fabrication of continuously mesoporous Cu films using polymeric micelles as soft templates to control the growth of Cu under sophisticated electrochemical conditions. Uniformly sized mesopores are evenly distributed over the entire film, and the pore walls are composed of highly crystalized Cu.     

Synthesis of a Pentacene‐Type Silaborin via Double Dehydrogenative Cyclization of 1,4‐Diboryl‐2,5‐disilylbenzene

A new pentacene‐type silaborin, in which three benzene rings are bridged by silicon and boron atoms, has been synthesized and characterized by using NMR spectroscopy and X‐ray crystallographic analysis. The precursor, 1,4‐bis(dimesitylboryl)‐2,5‐bis(phenylsilyl)benzene ( 4 ), was prepared by stepwise introduction of a silyl group and a boryl group to a benzene ring starting from 1,4‐dibromobenzene. Double cyclization of 4 proceeds by a H‐Mes exchange and a B‐H/C‐H dehydrogenative condensation to afford pentacene‐type silaborin 5 . X‐ray crystal structure analysis reveals that 5 adopts a bent structure rather than a planar one. UV/Vis spectra and DFT calculations for 5 reveal a lowering of the LUMO energy level compared with corresponding anthracene‐type 3 .     

Two-directional elaboration of hydroxyacetone under thermodynamically controlled conditions: allylation or 2-propynylation and aldol reaction

Enolate generated from O-(tetrahydropyran-2-yl)hydroxyacetone under thermodynamically controlled conditions (1.3 equiv of NaH, THF, 0 degrees C to rt) was allylated at the carbon bearing the protected hydroxy group with very high regioselectively. When tert-BuOH, equivalent to the excessive portion of initially added NaH, was introduced into the mixture followed by addition of aldehyde, aldol reaction took place on the methyl group to give 1-substituted 4-hydroxy-(1E),6-heptadien-3-one in acceptable yields after acidic treatment of the mixture for dehydration and deprotection. Introducing a chiral auxiliary protecting group into hydroxyacetone led to asymmetric allylation though stereoselectivity was around 50% ee. Thus, the hidden aspect of the chemoselective nature of protected hydroxyacetone-derived enolate generated under thermodynamically controlled conditions has opened a new avenue for two-directional elaboration of hydroxyacetone that should be potentially useful in organic synthesis.     

Preparation of a zwitterionic trichloroplatinum(II) complex with an alkylbipyridinum ligand and its reaction in dmso-<Emphasis Type="BoldItalic">d</Emphasis><Subscript>6</Subscript> solution

A zwitterionic trichloroplatinum(II) complex PtCl₃(4,4′-bpy-N-ⁿBu) (1) was prepared by an aqueous reaction of [4,4′-bpy-N-ⁿBu]Cl with K₂PtCl₄, and was characterized by ¹H-n.m.r. and IR spectroscopy as well as elemental analysis. Dissolving (1) into dmso-d ₆ at 25 °C yields a mixture of the complexes, cis-PtCl₂(4,4′-bpy-N-ⁿBu)(dmso-d ₆) (2-cis), trans-PtCl₂(4,4′-bpy-N-ⁿBu)(dmso-d ₆) (2-trans), [4,4′-bpy-N-ⁿBu]Cl and PtCl₂(dmso-d ₆)₂. Ratio of the products in the dmso-d ₆ solution changed depending on the temperature and the total concentration of the complexes. These compounds are in equilibrium via isomerization reaction between (2-cis) and (2-trans) and via displacement reaction of the alkylbipyridinium ligand of (2-cis) and (2-trans) with dmso-d ₆ to form [4,4′-bpy-N-ⁿBu]Cl and PtCl₂(dmso-d ₆)₂.     

Orientation control of perovskite thin films on glass substrates by the application of a seed layer prepared from oxide nanosheets

Orientation control of perovskite compounds was investigated by the application of a seed layer prepared from oxide nanosheets. An aqueous suspension of oxide nanosheets was prepared by the exfoliation of a layered compound of KCa₂Nb₃O₁₀ oxide grains. A seed layer composed of (TBA)Ca₂Nb₃O₁₀ nanosheets (TBA = tetrabutylammonium) was formed on a glass substrate by simply dip coating it in the suspension. Two kinds of perovskite compounds, LaNiO₃ (LNO) and Pb(Zr,Ti)O₃ (PZT) with a preferred orientation of (00l) were successfully grown on this seeded glass substrate. In this study, the relation between lattice mismatch and electrical properties is investigated. A large, oriented PZT film with a size of 5 ×4 cm shows an improved P-E hysteresis behavior by use of this orientation control.     

Magnetic interactions in a series of paramagnetic Ln(III) complexes with a chelated imino nitroxide radical

The magnetic interactions in a new series of isostructural imino nitroxide radical lanthanide(III) complexes, [Ln(hfac)₃(IM2py)] (Ln = Gd–Yb: IM2py = 2-(2′-pyridyl)-4,5-dihydro-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1H-imidazoline-1-oxy; hfac = 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoro-2,4-pentanedione), are examined by considering the intrinsic paramagnetic contribution of the Ln(III) ion from the corresponding [Ln(hfac)₃(pybzim)] with a diamagnetic pybzim(2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole) ligand; the Ln(III)–IM2py interaction being antiferromagnetic for the 4f⁷ to 4f¹³ Ln(III) complexes and negligibly small for the other complexes. This series is the first example reverse to the previous cases for the series of Ln–Cu or Ln–aminoxyl(NIT) radical (4,5-dihydro-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1H-imidazoline-3-oxide-1-oxy) complexes, other than only a few examples of semiquinone Ln complexes. This reverse nature of the magnetic interaction, as compared with the NIT complexes, validates the empirical approach by O. Kahn et al. [Inorg. Chem. 38 (1999) 3692; J. Am. Chem. Soc. 122 (2000) 3413] in the spin-coupled systems for a series of Ln(III) complexes.     

Direct synthesis of hetero-biaryl compounds containing an unprotected NH2 group via Suzuki-Miyaura reaction

Hetero-biaryl compounds were prepared via the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction of hetero-aryl moieties containing an unprotected NH₂ group and arylboronic acids. D-t-BPF was found to be an efficient ligand for the cross-coupling of NH₂-unprotected hetero-aryl chlorides with phenylboronic acid.
