The molecular structure and conformation of carvone, a compound with a minty odor, were investigated by means of gas electron diffraction supported by theoretical calculations. Electron diffraction patterns were recorded by heating the nozzle up to 128 °C to obtain enough scattering intensity. The infrared spectrum was also measured by using an absorption cell with a path length of 10 m. The obtained molecular scattering intensities were analyzed with the aid of theoretical calculations and infrared spectroscopy. It was revealed that the experimental data are well reproduced by assuming that carvone consists of a mixture of three conformers that have the isopropenyl group in the equatorial position and mutually differ in the torsional angle around the single bond connecting the ring and the isopropenyl group. It was also found that the puckering amplitude of the ring of carvone is close to those of menthol and isomenthol, a minty compound and its nonminty isomer. The determined structural parameters (rg and ∠α) of the most abundant conformer of carvone are as follows: 〈r(C-C)〉=1.520(3) Å; 〈r(CC)〉=1.360(5) Å; r(CO)=1.225(5) Å; 〈r(C-H)〉=1.104(4)Å; 〈∠CC-C〉=121.1(5)°; 〈∠C-C-C〉=110.4(5)°; ∠C-CO-C=117.1(14)°; 〈∠C-C-H〉=111.1(13)°. The effect of a pi-electron-donating macrocyclic molecule on the photochromic behavior of viologen derivatives was investigated in a thin polymer film. The intermolecular interactions between the viologens and the macrocyclic molecule were investigated in a solution before photoirradiation. In acetone, benzylviologens, N,N'-dibenzyl-4,4'-bipyridinium hexafluorophosphate (1) and N,N'-dibenzyl-trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridinium)ethylene hexafluorophosphate (2) each derived from 4,4'-bipiyridine and trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene, respectively, form an inclusion complex with p-benzocrown ether (3) with binding constants of ca 200 M-1, which was driven by a charge transfer interaction. The peak wavelength of the charge transfer absorption band was at 453 and 421 nm for the inclusion complexes of 1 and 2 with 3, respectively. Upon photoirradiation to the polymer film containing 1, the film changed color from colorless to blue, associated with the reduction of 1 from the dication to the radical cation. The original dication was recovered after 120 min. The addition of 3 into the film containing 1 caused not only the color change from colorless to yellow, associated with the charge transfer interaction between 1 and 3 before photoirradiation, but also an acceleration in the bleaching rate of the photoreduced 1. When p-dimethoxybenzene (4) was used as an acyclic analog of 3, a negligible change in the photochromic behavior of 1 was observed. Similar effect of 3 on the photochromic behavior of 2 was observed. These results imply that the pi-electron-donating macrocyclic molecule causes a faster bleaching of photoreduced viologens by forming the inclusion complex.  相似文献

Thiazolo[3,2-a]thieno[3,2-d]-, [3,4-d]- and [2,3-d]pyrimidin-5-one derivatives (6, 11 and 16), and polymethylene condensed thieno[3,2-d]-, [3,4-d]- and [2,3-d]pyrimidin-5-one derivatives (19-21), in which the oxygen atom of the oxazolidine moiety in 3 was replaced by a sulfur atom or methylene groups, were synthesized and evaluated for gastric antisecretory activity in pylorus-ligated rats. Geometric structures and excited-state proton dislocation of size-selected salicylic acid clusters (salicylic acid and 5-methoxysalicylic acid) with water were studied by using laser spectroscopic techniques. Fluorescence excitation, dispersed fluorescence, and infrared (IR) spectra of those clusters in supersonic jets were examined for both the electronic ground (S0) and first excited (S1) states. The geometric structures of the clusters were determined on the basis of the IR spectra of the OH stretch region with the help of quantum chemical calculations. The hydroxyl group of the water moiety in the clusters forms a ring involving the carboxylic group of the salicylic acid moiety. The IR spectra in S0 show that the intramolecular hydrogen bond in the salicylic acid moiety is still held upon cluster formation, but the phenolic OH stretch band intensity is remarkably weaken in the clusters. The IR spectra in the S1 state and dispersed fluorescence spectra indicated that the intramolecular excited state proton dislocation is hardly affected by the microsolvation with water, in contrast with the strong suppression of the dislocation in the self-solvation.  相似文献

The binding of acid azo dyes having phenolic hydroxyl groups such as orange I ( I ), orange II ( II ), chrome violet ( III ), 4-hydroxyazobenzene-4′-sulfonate ( IV ), and 2,4-dihydroxyazobenzene-4′-sulfonate ( V ) by polyethylenimine was studied by equilibrium dialysis and spectroscopic methods. The results obtained indicate that dyes ( III ) and ( V ) with two OH groups are bound much more strongly than dyes ( I ), ( II ), and ( IV ) with one OH group. Also polyethylenimine is far superior to any other polymers which have been examined, including bovine serum albumin, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and poly-L -lysine, in its ability to form complexes with these dyes ( III ) and ( V ). The OH groups involved participate preferentially in complex formation with polyethylenimine. The unusual affinity of polyethylenimine for the dyes carrying OH groups is discussed.  相似文献
