Preparation of derivatives of DL-estrone and of 19-norsteroids from 3-methoxy-Δ1,3,5,(10),9(11)-8,14-secoestratetraen-14,17-dione

Summary Starting from S-methoxy-^{1,3,5(10),8,14}-estrapentaen-17-one (II) and its ethylene ketal (III), a combination of hydrogenation, reduction by Birch's and Johnson's methods, and other reactions has given the methyl ethers of DL-estrone and DL-estradiol (I) and (XV), and also DL-19-nortestosterone (XVI), ^4,8-19-norandrostadienedione (VIII) and other steroids.

Summary On fermentation of Reichstein's substance S with a culture ofStreptomyces albus 3006, 17,20-21-trihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one was formed in high yield.     

Catalytic ionic hydrogenation of 8(9),14(15)-bisdehydroestrone, 8(9),14(15)-bisdehydro-d-homoestrone,and their derivatives

Condensation of 2-(3,4-dihydro-6-methoxy-1-naphthyl)-ethenol acetate with 3,5-dimethyl-3-cyclopentene-1,2-dione

Synthesis of compounds of the bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane series that are fused with an oxazecine ring

Derivatives of the bicyclo[2,2,1]heptane series that are condensed with an oxazecine ring were obtained. A number of transformations of the compounds obtained were realized.
